    Detection and identification of sparse audio tampering using distributed source coding and compressive sensing techniques

    In most practical applications, for the sake of information integrity not only it is useful to detect whether a multimedia content has been modified or not, but also to identify which kind of attack has been carried out. In the case of audio streams, for example, it may be useful to localize the tamper in the time and/or frequency domain. In this paper we devise a hash-based tampering detection and localization system exploiting compressive sensing principles. The multimedia content provider produces a small hash signature using a limited number of random projections of a time-frequency representation of the original audio stream. At the content user side, the hash signature is used to estimate the distortion between the original and the received stream and, provided that the tamper is sufficiently sparse or sparsifiable in some orthonormal basis expansion or redundant dictionary (e.g. DCT or wavelet), to identify the time-frequency portion of the stream that has been manipulated.     In the past few years, a large amount of techniques have been proposed to identify whether a multimedia content has been illegally tampered or not. Nevertheless, very few efforts have been devoted to identifying which kind of attack has been carried out, especially due to the large data required for this task. We propose a novel hashing scheme which exploits the paradigms of compressive sensing and distributed source coding to generate a compact hash signature, and we apply it to the case of audio content protection. The audio content provider produces a small hash signature by computing a limited number of random projections of a perceptual, time-frequency representation of the original audio stream; the audio hash is given by the syndrome bits of an LDPC code applied to the projections. At the content user side, the hash is decoded using distributed source coding tools. If the tampering is sparsifiable or compressible in some orthonormal basis or redundant dictionary, it is possible to identify the time-frequency position of the attack, with a hash size as small as 200 bits/second; the bit saving obtained by introducing distributed source coding ranges between 20% to 70%

    The dynamic range of real world scenes may vary from around 102 to greater than 107 , whilst the dynamic range of monitors may vary from 102 to 105 . In this paper, we investigate the impact of the dynamic range ratio (DRratio) between the captured scene and the displayed image, upon the value of system gamma preferred by subjects (a simple global power law transformation applied to the image). To do so, we present an image dataset with a broad distribution of dynamic ranges upon various subranges of a SIM2 monitor. The full dynamic range of the monitor is 105 and we present images using either the full range, 75% or 50% of this, while maintaining a fixed mid-luminance level. We find that the preferred system gamma is inversely correlated with the DRratio and importantly, is one (linear) when the DRratio is one. This strongly suggests that the visual system is optimized for processing images only when the dynamic range is presented correctly. The DRratio is not the only factor. By using 50% of the monitor dynamic range and using either the lower, middle or upper portion of the monitor, we show that increasing the overall luminance level also increases the preferred system gamma, although to a lesser extent than the DR ratio

    ABSTRACT No-reference video quality monitoring algorithms typically assume the availability of the encoded bitstream in order to assess the quality of the received signal at the decoder side. In some situations this is not possible, e.g. because the bitstream is encrypted or processed by third party decoders. Thus no-reference quality monitoring must be carried out in a blind way, i.e. using only pixel-domain data output by the decoder. In this paper we target this scenario for the specific case of distortion introduced by channel losses. We estimate the missing coding parameters, as well as the channel error pattern, and feed them into a no-reference quality monitoring system which produces accurate estimates of the MSE distortion. The results produced by the proposed method are well correlated (linear correlation coefficient larger than 0.8 over a wide range of packet loss rates) with the distortion computed in full-reference mode

    Autoimmune-Poly-Endocrinopathy-Candidiasis-Ectodermal Dystrophy (APECED), caused by mutations in the Autoimmune Regulator (AIRE) gene, is an autosomal recessive multi-organ autoimmunity syndrome usually defined by high serum titers of type I Interferon Autoantibodies (Type 1 IFN-Abs). These antibodies have recently been found in individuals in the general population who develop life-threatening Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), but the significance of pre-existing Type 1 IFN-Abs in APECED patients with COVID-19 remains unclear. Previous reports of COVID-19 outcomes in APECED patients have been divergent, and protective roles have been proposed for female sex, age <26 years, and immunomodulatory medications including intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg). We report the case of a 30-year-old male APECED patient who experienced a Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection with mild symptoms of fatigue and headache without respiratory distress and did not require hospitalization. He received a stress dose of hydrocortisone for adrenal insufficiency and continued on his baseline medications, including subcutaneous administration of Immunoglobulins (SCIgs) for chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). Mild COVID-19 in a 30-year-old male patient with APECED and pre-existing Type 1 IFN-Abs was unexpected. Younger age and management of autoimmunity may have played a role

    Evans syndrome, a combined clinical condition of autoimmune haemolytic anaemia (AHA) and idiopathic thrombocytopaenic purpura (ITP) and has non-specific pathogenesis. The clinical cases are extremely rare, since only 4% of AHA or ITP are incorporated with Evans. It is distinguished from differentials, such as lupus, IgA deficiency, and acquired immunodeficiency, by peripheral blood film, bone marrow, Coombs test, and coagulation profile. A case of adult female from Pabna, Bangladesh is documented in this report. She complained of high grade intermittent fever, exertional dyspnea, icteric skin and sclera. Other features included mild splenomegaly, dark urine, and profuse sweating after fever. Investigation reports were consistent with AHA and ITP, with normal coagulation and viral profile. However, the patient was treated with corticosteroids, platelet and blood transfusion. And in follow-up visits, there was a pattern of gradual decline in erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and reticulocyte count, with normalization of haemoglobin, red cell, and white cell count.     [A not very essential obesity: the Rohhad syndrome. Description of two cases and review of the literature].

    Rapid-onset Obesity with Hypothalamic Dysfunction, Hypoventilation, and Autonomic Dysregulation (ROHHAD) is a rare and complex pediatric disorder . Children typically show ROHHAD after the first years of life with rapid weight gain and subsequently autonomic nervous system dysregulation (altered pain perception, pupillary dysfunction, hypothermia and bradycardia); alveolar hypoventilation with risk of cardiorespiratory arrest and hypothalamic dysfunction (central diabetes insipidus, hypothyroidism, growth hormone and corticotrophin deficiency). Tumours of neural crest origin, such as ganglioneuroblastoma and ganglioneuronoma, are reported in 33% of the patients and may be found in the chest or abdomen. Here we describe two girls who presented with rapid weight gain, at the age of 5 and 9 years respectively. The first was admitted due to obesity and central hypothyroidism. After two months she rapidly developed a clinical picture characterized by thermal dysregulation, hypodipsia and severe hypernatriemia, hypertrigliceridemia, alveolar hypoventilation supported by mechanical ventilation. The second presented with rapid-onset obesity and a mild hyperprolactinemia. After three months of follow- up she was admitted due to a clinical picture of hypothermia, seizures and hyponatremia. Subsequentely she developed altered water balance (severe hypernatremia) and severe hypoventilation . Chest CT and MR imaging showed a posterior mediastinal mass. Endocrinological investigation showed corticotrophin deficiency and central hypothyroidism treated with specific replacement therapies. Conclusions: On the basis of our experiences we can infer that it is necessary perform specific further investigations of hypothalamic function in all the children with rapid onset obesity in order to early prevent the catastrophic consequences that may occur in this syndrome
