    Get PDF
Death hastening is a controversial terminal care option that is currently carried out in only four countries and some US states, with Canada posed to allow it on June 6, 2016. This article focuses on how assisted suicide and euthanasia have been managed in the four countries and US states where it has been sanctioned and practiced. A systematic literature review and additional searches were employed to gain information on the methods, recipients, procedures, regulations, outcomes, and other information available on state-sanctioned death hastening. The findings reveal many different possible models and thus considerations required for planning in advance of death hastening actually occurring.  &nbsp

Background: The aims of the study was to study adverse drug reactions (ADRs) among tuberculosis (TB) patients in a tertiary care hospital and to determine causality, severity and outcome of ADRs.Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted in a tertiary care hospital over a period of 6 months. Data was collected from records of TB patients in RNTCP centre of a tertiary care hospital regarding information of patients, drugs used, ADRs. It was evaluated using appropriate scales. Simple descriptive statistics was used for analysis. Results: Out of 37 patients who experienced ADRs, 22 (59.45%) were male and 15 (40.54%) were female. Majority of patients were in the age group of 36 to 45 years (37.83%). 36 (97.3%) patients were diagnosed with pulmonary TB and 1 (2.7%) patient had extra pulmonary TB. Among 37 ADRs gastrointestinal (GI) reactions were most common 11 (29.72%) followed by musculoskeletal 9 (24.32%). Causality assessment showed 19 (51.35%) as probable and 18 (48.65%) ADRs as possible, Severity assessment was 24 (64.8%) reactions were in mild, 10 (27.02%) in moderate and 3 (8.1%) in severe grades. Outcome assessment was 26 (70.3%) patients were recovering from reactions, 9 (24.32%) had recovered and 2 (5.4%) did not recover at the time of reporting. Conclusions: Proper monitoring of ADRs helps in reducing patient’s burden of repeated hospital visits and expense occurring due to admissions. This can be prevented by educating patients about early reporting of ADRs

Background: The primary goal of sewage water treatment is to eliminate or bring down the number of pollutants in the sewage water. This study was needed to assess the efficacy of a sewage treatment plant in reducing contaminants levels to comply with government environmental standards. The wastewater re-use for irrigation approaches must be in compliance with the guidelines and indicators must be tracked and impended consistently, it is therefore essential to give top priority to requirements at the stage of evaluating and development to protect land and water supplies as well as public health. Methods: Chemical and biological approaches were used to regulate the removal efficiency of treatment plants. The performance and effectualness of the Vidyaranyapuram sewage treatment plant (STP) in Mysore are evaluated and analyzed in this report. Novelty: Water quality needs to be regularly checked in wastewater treatment facilities. The current study will aid the treatment facility in its efforts to enhance the process of treatment. One would be able to update the effluent efficiency levels depending on the seasonal variations in wastewater treatment as the assessment explains the number of water quality metrics in waste water plants. The obtained analysis results are very helpful in locating, fixing, and maintaining plant operating and maintenance issues, which may be helpful for next plant expansion to be carried out to get good results. Result: The STP\u27s treatment efficiencies were discovered to have a good treatment level in BOD (96%) and a moderate treatment quality in COD (79%) and TSS (75%) removal efficiency during the year 2018. Conclusion: To ensure correct operation and maintenance, trained and experienced workers must analyze treatment performance at predetermined time intervals. The result explains the quality of effluent water and performance of treatment plant. STPs should be used to their full potential to manage the quality of final effluent, and raw sewage sources should be identified

Quantitative trait loci for fertility traits in Finnish Ayrshire cattle

A whole genome scan was carried out to detect quantitative trait loci (QTL) for fertility traits in Finnish Ayrshire cattle. The mapping population consisted of 12 bulls and 493 sons. Estimated breeding values for days open, fertility treatments, maternal calf mortality and paternal non-return rate were used as phenotypic data. In a granddaughter design, 171 markers were typed on all 29 bovine autosomes. Associations between markers and traits were analysed by multiple marker regression. Multi-trait analyses were carried out with a variance component based approach for the chromosomes and trait combinations, which were observed significant in the regression method. Twenty-two chromosome-wise significant QTL were detected. Several of the detected QTL areas were overlapping with milk production QTL previously identified in the same population. Multi-trait QTL analyses were carried out to test if these effects were due to a pleiotropic QTL affecting fertility and milk yield traits or to linked QTL causing the effects. This distinction could only be made with confidence on BTA1 where a QTL affecting milk yield is linked to a pleiotropic QTL affecting days open and fertility treatments

578-584Aerva lanata (L.) Juss. ex Schult. is an important medicinal plant widely used in the treatment of several human ailments in the southern part of India including as a source of Pashana Bheda (Stone Breaker). The plant materials were extracted in different solvent extracts and analyzed to know the composition of minerals, secondary metabolites and the efficacy of solvent extracts against pathogenic bacteria and Candida species. Ethyl acetate extract of sun-dried plant inhibited the growth of S. typhie and K. pneumoniae. The anticandidal activity displayed in ethyl acetate and methanol extracts was very effective against C. glabrata, C. albicans and C. haemulonii respectively. A maximum of 11.834 ppm calcium content was recorded, followed by potassium (6.87 ppm) and magnesium (6.5 ppm). Similarly, amongst the secondary metabolites, saponins (1.987 mg/g) content was maximum, followed by flavonoids (1.85 mg/g) and sterol (0.85 mg/g) in sundried plant material. In shade dried plant material, phenol content was more (1.14 mg/g). No significant difference was observed in the occurrence of secondary metabolites, minerals, and antimicrobial activity between sundried and shade dried plant materials
