Optical Diagnostics for Solid Rocket Plumes Characterization: A Review
In recent decades, solid fuel combustion propulsion of spacecraft has become one of the most popular choices for rocket propulsion systems. The reasons for this success are a wide range of applications, lower production costs, simplicity, and safety. The rocket’s plumes leave the nozzle at high temperatures; hence, the knowledge of produced infrared (IR) emissions is a crucial aspect during the design and tests of the rocket motors. Furthermore, rocket plume composition is given by N2, H2, H2O, CO and CO2, while solid rocket motors (SRM) additionally inject some solid particles, given by metal fuel additives in the propellant grain, i.e., aluminum oxide (Al2O3) particles. The main issue is the detection of the particles remaining in the atmosphere due to the exhaust gas of the solid rocket propulsion system that could have effects on ozone depletion. The experimental characterization of SRM plumes in the presence of alumina particles can be conducted using different optical techniques. The present study aims to review the most promising ones with a description of the optics system and their potential applications for SRM plume measurements. The most common measurement techniques are infrared spectroscopy imaging, IR imaging. UV–VIS measurements, shadowgraph, and Schlieren optical methods. The choice of these techniques among many others is due to the ability to study the plume without influencing the physical conditions existing in and around the study object. This paper presents technical results concerning the study of rocket engines plumes with the above-mentioned methods and reveals the feasibility of the measurement techniques applied

free energy and the large deviations functional for a particle model with
long-range Kac potentials, proven in some cases, and expected to be true in
general, then provides information on the structure of typical microscopic
configurations of the Gibbs measure when the range of the Kac potential is
large enough
Entanglement dynamics in presence of diversity under decohering environments
We study the evolution of entanglement of a pair of coupled, non-resonant
harmonic oscillators in contact with an environment. For both the cases of a
common bath and of two separate baths for each of the oscillators, a full
master equation is provided without rotating wave approximation. This allows us
to characterize the entanglement dynamics as a function of the diversity
between the oscillators frequencies and their mutual coupling. Also the
correlation between the occupation numbers is considered to explore the degree
of quantumness of the system. The singular effect of the resonance condition
(identical oscillators) and its relationship with the possibility of preserving
asymptotic entanglement are discussed. The importance of the bath's memory
properties is investigated by comparing Markovian and non-Markovian evolutions

We study the dependence of its lowest eigenvalue on the boundary conditions and
its asymptotic behavior in shrinking and expanding domains. For convex domains
we establish two-sided estimates on the lowest eigenvalues in terms of the
inradius and of the boundary conditions
Diagnostic accuracy of MRI in the differential diagnosis between uterine leiomyomas and sarcomas: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Background: Differential diagnosis between uterine leiomyomas and sarcomas is challenging. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) represents the second-line diagnostic method after ultrasound for the assessment of uterine masses. Objectives: To assess the accuracy of MRI in the differential diagnosis between uterine leiomyomas and sarcomas. Search Strategy: A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed searching five electronic databases from their inception to June 2023. Selection Criteria: All peer-reviewed observational or randomized clinical trials that reported an unbiased postoperative histologic diagnosis of uterine leiomyoma or uterine sarcoma, which also comprehended a preoperative MRI evaluation of the uterine mass. Data Collection and Analysis: Sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative likelihood ratios, diagnostic odds ratio, and area under the curve on summary receiver operating characteristic of MRI in differentiating uterine leiomyomas and sarcomas were calculated as individual and pooled estimates, with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results: Eight studies with 2495 women (2253 with uterine leiomyomas and 179 with uterine sarcomas), were included. MRI showed pooled sensitivity of 0.90 (95% CI 0.84–0.94), specificity of 0.96 (95% CI 0.96–0.97), positive likelihood ratio of 13.55 (95% CI 6.20–29.61), negative likelihood ratio of 0.08 (95% CI 0.02–0.32), diagnostic odds ratio of 175.13 (95% CI 46.53–659.09), and area under the curve of 0.9759. Conclusions: MRI has a high diagnostic accuracy in the differential diagnosis between uterine leiomyomas and sarcomas
Pre-service teachers’ engagement in a cross-curricular television news project: impact on professional identity
This paper focuses on the impact of pre-service teachers’ engagement in the annual BBC News School Report project on their emerging professional identity and on the evidence they provide as part of the process of becoming qualified. The research reported on is drawn from three years of enquiry. Respondents included pre-service teachers themselves, their tutors as representatives of teacher education providers and their mentors as representatives of schools in which they were placed. The methodological approach was interpretative and phenomenological with qualitative and quantitative data being analysed for emergent themes. Two years of evaluations were followed by a third year in which a set of case studies were developed. The research showed that professional identity is enhanced through being in a leading role in respect of curriculum and working with other staff. Through engagement in such projects, this paper moots that preservice teachers develop richer evidence of emerging professionalism as defined by standards of initial teacher training. Moreover, self-perception of role was modified to one in which they saw themselves, and were seen, as equals to qualified staff rather than subservient to or dependent on them. A new more equal power relationship developed as they took on responsibility for the project. Preservice teachers’ move to become full members of the professional community for which they are training was accelerated
