Comparasion between European elite senior and junior female table tennis players

    Get PDF
The aim of the study was to compare elite junior and senior women table tennis players, using three parameters of the table tennis: rally length, serve and receive analysis. Twentyfive junior and twenty-five elite senior matches were analysed (total: 263 sets and 4958 points) between players ranked in Top 25 in ETTU rankings in the last two years. All the athletes used an offensive style of play. The results of non-parametric Mann-Whitney U Test, showed a significantly higher rally length in senior compared to junior category (4.46 vs. 3.93). Moreover, the results of Pearson’s Chi-square tests show an association between the age categories and selected parameters (laterality, technique and placement) for both serve and receive. Different behavior between the two categories was noted. The senior players used more the flip technique (22.2 % vs 14.7 %) and short push to return the services of the opponents (32.5 % vs 26.0 %). These results provide useful information to analyze junior players’ behavior compared to the senior players in order to plan specific training sessions. It can be also useful to identify some parameters as predictors of the future success for junior players

Power Quality Concerns in Implementing Smart Distribution-Grid Applications

This paper maps the expected and possible adverse consequences for power quality of introducing several smart distribution-grid technologies and applications. The material presented in this paper is the result of discussions in an international CIGRE-CIRED joint working group. The following technologies and applications are discussed: 1) microgrids; 2) advanced voltage control; 3) feeder reconfiguration; and 4) demand-side management. Recommendations are given based on the mapping

Influence of antiferromagnetic spin ordering on the far-infrared active optical phonon modes of alpha-MnSe

    Get PDF
The effects of spin-phonon interaction and magnetic anisotropy on the temperature dependence of the infrared optical phonon modes in the antiferromagnetic alpha-MnSe are investigated by use of Green’s function formalism within 1/z perturbation framework. The renormalization effects are calculated explicitly as a function of temperature, phonon-phonon, and spin-phonon interaction constants. Temperature dependence of the renormalized LO phonon frequencies of the F1u infrared active and combinational phonon modes are calculated and compared with experimental data. We have shown that the inclusion of anisotropy is necessary in order to get a good quantitative agreement with the experiment

Real-time grouped management of Electric Vehicle Battery Chargers (EVBCs) for voltage profile improvement in radial distribution networks

    Get PDF
Voltage limit violation is one of the main factors that impact large-scale integration of electric vehicles in distribution networks. In order to improve voltage profiles, active charging management techniques can be deployed in real-time, considering voltage sensitivities of customer buses. The study in this paper investigates a real-time charging management approach for electric vehicles, clustered according to voltage sensitivities among the customer buses, in a local network. Constant power (CP) and constant current (CC) models, representing a range of electric vehicle battery chargers (EVBCs), are used in simulations with high-resolution stochastic EV charging and residential demand profiles. The paper quantifies the performance of the proposed management approach in a local network model based on real data and IEEE European Low Voltage (LV) Test Feeder

Warfarin (3-(alpha-acetonylbenzy1)-4-hydroxy coumarin) is a vitamin K (VK) antagonist that inhibits vitamin K-dependent (VKD) processes, such as blood coagulation. It also exerts an influence on some non-VKD-related activities. In this study, the effect of sub-acute (30-day) oral warfarin (2 and 1 mg L-1) intake on hematological parameters was examined in two rat strains, Albino Oxford (AO) and Dark Agouti (DA), that differ in their sensitivity to certain chemicals. Greater susceptibility to the anticoagulant effect of 2 mg L-1 of warfarin was observed in AO rats and was associated with an increase in the relevant hematological parameters in this strain. Although both strains responded to 2 mg L-1 of warfarin with quantitative changes in the peripheral blood leukocytes, differential bone marrow and lung responses were observed. Strain-related differences in the pro-inflammatory activity of peripheral blood granulocytes and in mononuclear cell IFN-gamma production were observed. Recognition of differences in quantitative and qualitative effects of oral warfarin on processes other than hemostasis might be of relevance for those humans who are on warfarin therapy.

Detection and Preservation of Biosignatures in Mars Analogs Hot Spring Deposits from the Taupo Volcanic Zone, New Zealand

    Get PDF
Characterizing the preservation potential of biosignatures in martian analogs is essential in the quest for biosignatures with martian rovers. Hot spring silica deposits are part of the minerals with a high preservation potential. As part of an ongoing study, we are characterizing the nature and distribution of organic molecules including lipid biomarkers in a range of analog hot spring deposits, evaluating their preservation potential, and determining the potential signals from flight-like experiments. We are focusing on various geothermal fields in the New Zealand Taupo Volcanic Zone with physical and chemical variabilities. Samples are being extracted for lipid biomarker characterization as well as analysis using flight-like experiments from the current and future pyrolyzer-gas chromatographmass spectrometer instruments SAM and MOMA on the Curiosity and Exomars2020 rovers. The aim of work is to improve our knowledge of the detection and preservation of biosignatures in different hot spring lithologies while simultaneously evaluating the potential limits and biases of flight experiments.Fil: Millan, Maëva.
