Framework and Initial Analyses of Fertilizer Profitability in Maize and Cotton in Zambia

    Get PDF
Inorganic fertilizers will play a role in government programs, but whether or not a single policy is valuable for all farmers depends upon the net gain for the farmers. The research here seeks to demonstrate how to answer the question “Is fertilizer profitable in Zambia for maize and cotton in the smallholder sector?” This study identifies the key components determining profitability and then sets up a framework to evaluate the probability of farmers to obtain profitable results with fertilizer use on maize and cotton. Several cases are selected and the results are evaluated. Private profitability for the farmer at market prices is discussed, leaving social profitability to other researchers. A simple method for farmers and extensionists to use to assess a fertilizer investment is given, to assist in more site specific analysis, given prices and environment.food security, food policy, Zambia, maize, cotton, fertilizer, Agribusiness, Q18,

    MIMO transmission equation

Journal ArticleMultiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) antenna systems such as the one depicted in Fig. 1 offer capacity benefits over their single-input, single-output (SISO) counterparts [1], thus attracting considerable current research. MIMO performance depends on a wide range of parameters [1] including radiation efficiency, correlation [2], mutual coupling [3], matching efficiency and polarization misalignment [4]. No single simulation method has been described that includes each of these effects so critical to handset array designs. This work synthesizes a comprehensive model to incorporate each of these effects. In order to manage the complexity of such a model, the MIMO Transmission Equation is introduced-similar to the well-known Friis Transmission Equation

Revisiting Parker & ogilvie’s African American Women Executive Leadership Model

    Get PDF
This conceptual paper addresses a unique niche. We summarize the qualitative, quantitative and theoretical research specific to African American women in leadership. Using an intersectional lens of race, gender and leadership identity, we revisit the seminal work of Parker and ogilvie’s (1996) model of African American Women Executive Leadership to determine support for the model in theory and practice. We conclude by suggesting updates to Parker and ogilvie’s model and discuss the future research needed to address this neglected demographic. This enhances leadership and diversity research and provides much needed recommendations on how to support diversity leadership in organization

Problem and treatment of DC offsets in FDTD simulations

    Get PDF
Journal ArticleThis paper discusses the causes of and some solutions to the commonly observed problem of dc field offsets in finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations. DC electric and magnetic field offsets are shown to be valid calculated responses of the modeled systems, resulting from interaction between the turn-on characteristics of the source and the properties of the models. The dc offsets may be avoided in the time domain by tailoring the source waveforms or in the frequency domain by post-processing the FDTD output

In order to determine potential definitive hosts of the digenetic trematode, Bolbophorus damnificus, two American White Pelicans (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos), two Double-crested Cormorants (Phalacrocorax auritus), two Great Blue Herons (Ardea herodias), and two Great Egrets (Ardea alba) were captured, treated with praziquantel, and fed channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) infected with B. damnificus metacercariae. Patent infections of B. damnificus, which developed in both American White Pelicans at 3 days post-infection, were confirmed by the presence of trematode ova in the feces. Mature B. damnificus trematodes were recovered from the intestines of both pelicans at 21 days post-infection, further confirming the establishment of infection. No evidence of B. damnificus infections was observed in the other bird species studied. This study provides further evidence that Double-crested Cormorants, Great Blue Herons, and Great Egrets do not serve as definitive hosts for B. damnificus

The purpose of this research is to know the condition variables and to explain the environment job stress effect on the job satisfaction, to explain the organizational job stress effect on the job satisfaction, and to explain the personal job stress effect on the job satisfaction. The population used in this research is all employees Dinas Ketenagakerjaan dan Transmigrasi Kota Malang totaling 45 people. The results of the descriptive analysis showed that environment job stress, organizational job stress, and personal job stress at Dinas Ketenagakerjaan dan Transmigrasi Kota Malang are low, while the employee job satisfaction is high. Based on the result of the infrential analysis is known there is a negative and significant impact on of the environment job stress to the job satisfaction. There is a negative and significant impact on of the organizational job stress to the job satisfaction. There is a negative and significant impact on of the personal job stress to the job satisfaction

Neuron numbers increase in the human amygdala from birth to adulthood, but not in autism.

Remarkably little is known about the postnatal cellular development of the human amygdala. It plays a central role in mediating emotional behavior and has an unusually protracted development well into adulthood, increasing in size by 40% from youth to adulthood. Variation from this typical neurodevelopmental trajectory could have profound implications on normal emotional development. We report the results of a stereological analysis of the number of neurons in amygdala nuclei of 52 human brains ranging from 2 to 48 years of age [24 neurotypical and 28 autism spectrum disorder (ASD)]. In neurotypical development, the number of mature neurons in the basal and accessory basal nuclei increases from childhood to adulthood, coinciding with a decrease of immature neurons within the paralaminar nucleus. Individuals with ASD, in contrast, show an initial excess of amygdala neurons during childhood, followed by a reduction in adulthood across nuclei. We propose that there is a long-term contribution of mature neurons from the paralaminar nucleus to other nuclei of the neurotypical human amygdala and that this growth trajectory may be altered in ASD, potentially underlying the volumetric changes detected in ASD and other neurodevelopmental or neuropsychiatric disorders
