Resonant behaviour in double charge exchange reaction of \pi^+ mesons on the nuclear photoemulsion
The invariant mass spectra of the and systems produced in the
double charge exchange (DCX) of positively charged pions on photoemulsion are
analysed. A pronounced peak is observed in the invariant mass
spectrum, while the spectrum exhibits a strong Migdal-Watson effect of
the proton-proton final state interaction. These findings are in favor of the
-decoupled pseudoscalar resonance with T=0 called .Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures, revised versio
Search for Narrow NNpi Resonances in Exclusive p p -> p p pi+ pi- Measurements
Narrow structures in the range of a few MeV have been searched for in p p pi+
and p p pi- invariant mass spectra obtained from exclusive measurements of the
p p -> p p pi+ pi- reaction at Tp = 725, 750 and 775 MeV using the PROMICE/WASA
detector at CELSIUS. The selected reaction is particularily well suited for the
search for NN and / or N Delta decoupled dibaryon resonances. Except for a
possible fluctuation at 2087 MeV/c^2 in Mpppi- no narrow structures could be
identified neither in Mpppi+ nor in Mpppi- on the 3 sigma level of statistical
significance, giving an upper limit (95% C.L.) for dibaryon production in this
reaction of sigma < 20 nb for 2020 MeV/c^2 < m(dibaryon) < 2085 MeV/c^2Comment: 3 pages, 4 figure
Study of the p p -> p p pi+ pi- Reaction in the Low-Energy Tail of the Roper Resonance
Exclusive measurements of the p p -> p p pi+ pi- reaction have been carried
out at Tp = 775 MeV at CELSIUS using the PROMICE/WASA setup. Together with data
obtained at lower energy they point to a dominance of the Roper excitation in
this process. From the observed interference of its decay routes N* -> N sigma
and N* -> Delta pi -> N sigma their energy-dependent relative branching ratio
is determined
Three-body decay of the d* dibaryon
Under certain circumstances, a three-body decay width can be approximated by
an integral involving a product of two off-shell two-body decay widths. This
``angle-average'' approximation is used to calculate the decay width
of the dibaryon in a simple model for the most
important Feynman diagrams describing pion emissions with baryon-baryon recoil
and meson retardation. The decay width is found to be about 0.006 (0.07, 0.5)
MeV at the mass of 2065 (2100, 2150) MeV for input dynamics derived from
the Full Bonn potential. The smallness of this width is qualitatively
understood as the result of the three-body decay being ``third forbidden''. The
concept of forbiddenness and the threshold behavior of a three-body
decay are further studied in connection with the decay of the dibaryon
where the idea of unfavorness has to be introduced.
The implications of these results are briefly discussed.Comment: 15 pages, RevTeX, two-column journal style, six figure
The two pion decay of the Roper resonance
We evaluate the two pion decay of the Roper resonance in a model where
explicit re-scattering of the two final pions is accounted for by the use of
unitarized chiral perturbation theory. Our model does not include an explicit
or scalar-isoscalar meson decay mode, instead it
generates it dynamically by means of the pion re-scattering. The two ways,
explicit or dynamically generated, of introducing this decay channel have very
different amplitudes.
Nevertheless, through interference with the other terms of the model we are
able to reproduce the same phenomenology as models with explicit consideration
of the meson.Comment: 17 latex pages, 11 eps figures. A few misprints corrected. A few new

The d' dibaryon in the quark-delocalization, color-screening model
We study the questions of the existence and mass of the proposed dibaryon in the quark-delocalization, color-screening model
(QDCSM). The transformation between physical and symmetry bases has been
extended to the cases beyond the SU(2) orbital symmetry. Using parameters fixed
by baryon properties and scattering, we find a mild attraction in the
channel, but it is not strong enough to form a deeply bound state
as proposed for the state. Nor does the (isospin) I=2 N
configuration have a deeply bound state. These results show that if a narrow
dibaryon state does exist, it must have a more complicated structure.Comment: 12 pp. latex, no figs., 2 tables, additional refs., Report-no was

Here, we evaluated the performance of our Munich Actimetry Sleep Detection Algorithm. The Munich Actimetry Sleep Detection Algorithm uses a moving 24-h threshold and correlation procedure estimating relatively consolidated periods of sleep and wake. The Munich Actimetry Sleep Detection Algorithm was validated against sleep logs and polysomnography. Sleep-log validation was performed on two field samples collected over 54 and 34 days (median) in 34 adolescents and 28 young adults. Polysomnographic validation was performed on a clinical sample of 23 individuals undergoing one night of polysomnography. Epoch-by-epoch analyses were conducted and comparisons of sleep measures carried out via Bland-Altman plots and correlations. Compared with sleep logs, the Munich Actimetry Sleep Detection Algorithm classified sleep with a median sensitivity of 80% (interquartile range [IQR] = 75%-86%) and specificity of 91% (87%-92%). Mean onset and offset times were highly correlated (r = .86-.91). Compared with polysomnography, the Munich Actimetry Sleep Detection Algorithm reached a median sensitivity of 92% (85%-100%) but low specificity of 33% (10%-98%), owing to the low frequency of wake episodes in the night-time polysomnographic recordings. The Munich Actimetry Sleep Detection Algorithm overestimated sleep onset (~21 min) and underestimated wake after sleep onset (~26 min), while not performing systematically differently from polysomnography in other sleep parameters. These results demonstrate the validity of the Munich Actimetry Sleep Detection Algorithm in faithfully estimating sleep-wake patterns in field studies. With its good performance across daytime and night-time, it enables analyses of sleep-wake patterns in long recordings performed to assess circadian and sleep regularity and is therefore an excellent objective alternative to sleep logs in field settings.ASL received a stipend from the Max‐Weber‐Programm (Studienstiftung), AMB received funding from the Graduate School of Systemic Neurosciences Munich, CR received funding from the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) PhD research grants (PDE/BDE/114584/2016), LKP received a fellowship from the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES, Finance Code 001), and NG received research funding from the FoeFoLe program at LMU (registration No. 37/2013).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Kariesprävalenz von Schülern in 16 Zürcher Landgemeinden in den Jahren 1992 bis 2000
Standardized dental examinations of schoolchildren were regularly carried out since 1964 in 16 rural communities of the Canton of Zurich. In 1964, there were no 14-year-old schoolchildren free from caries; in the Nineties about half of the 14-year-olds had a caries-free permanent dentition (DMFT = 0). From the year 1992 to 2000, the caries prevalence (DMFT) of 14-year-olds decreased once again, by 31%. The pit and fissure caries prevalence (DFS) of 12- and 14-year-olds decreased by 28% and 37%, respectively. In 2000, the mean DMFT-value of the 12- and 14-year-old schoolchildren was 0.90 and 1.27 respectively. In 1964, only few 7-year-old schoolchildren were caries-free; in the Nineties about half of the 7-year-olds had a primary dentition without caries. From the year 1992 to 2000, caries prevalence (dmft) in 7-, 8- and 9-year-olds increased by 64%, 22% and 31%. In 2000, the mean dmft-value of all 7-year-old schoolchildren was 2.45. The Swiss schoolchildren had 1.79 dmft; the schoolchildren from former Yugoslavia and from Albania had 6.89 dmft and those of other nations had 3.37 dmft. Possible reasons for the continuous caries decrease in the permanent dentition and the increase in the primary dentition are discussed. Additional measures in order to improve the situation in the primary dentition are proposed
On the Production of Pairs in pp Collisions at 0.8 GeV
Data accumulated recently for the exclusive measurement of the reaction at a beam energy of 0.793 GeV using the COSY-TOF
spectrometer have been analyzed with respect to possible events from the reaction channel. The latter is expected to be the only
production channel, which contains no major contributions from
resonance excitation close to threshold and hence should be a good testing
ground for chiral dynamics in the production process. No single event
has been found, which meets all conditions for being a candidate for the reaction. This gives an upper limit for the cross section of
0.16 b (90% C.L.), which is more than an order of magnitude smaller than
the cross sections of the other two-pion production channels at the same
incident energy
Early and Middle Holocene Hunter-Gatherer Occupations in Western Amazonia: The Hidden Shell Middens
We report on previously unknown early archaeological sites in the Bolivian lowlands, demonstrating for the first time early and middle Holocene human presence in western Amazonia. Multidisciplinary research in forest islands situated in seasonally-inundated savannahs has revealed stratified shell middens produced by human foragers as early as 10,000 years ago, making them the oldest archaeological sites in the region. The absence of stone resources and partial burial by recent alluvial sediments has meant that these kinds of deposits have, until now, remained unidentified. We conducted core sampling, archaeological excavations and an interdisciplinary study of the stratigraphy and recovered materials from three shell midden mounds. Based on multiple lines of evidence, including radiocarbon dating, sedimentary proxies (elements, steroids and black carbon), micromorphology and faunal analysis, we demonstrate the anthropogenic origin and antiquity of these sites. In a tropical and geomorphologically active landscape often considered challenging both for early human occupation and for the preservation of hunter-gatherer sites, the newly discovered shell middens provide evidence for early to middle Holocene occupation and illustrate the potential for identifying and interpreting early open-air archaeological sites in western Amazonia. The existence of early hunter-gatherer sites in the Bolivian lowlands sheds new light on the region's past and offers a new context within which the late Holocene "Earthmovers" of the Llanos de Moxos could have emerged. © 2013 Lombardo et al
