    A comparative study of hydrophilic phosphine hexanuclear rhenium cluster complexes’ toxicity

    Octahedral rhenium cluster compound Na2H8[{Re6Se8}(P(C2H4CONH2)(C2H4COO)2)6] has recently emerged as a very promising X-ray contrast agent for biomedical applications. However, the synthesis of this compound is rather challenging due to difficulty to control the hydrolysis of initial P(C2H4CN)3 ligand during the reaction process. Therefore, in this report we compare the in vitro and in vivo toxicity of Na2H8[{Re6Se8}(P(C2H4CONH2)(C2H4COO)2)6] with those of related compounds featuring fully hydrolysed form of the phosphine ligand, namely Na2H14[{Re6Q8}(P(C2H4COO)3)6] (Q = S or Se). Our results demonstrate that cytotoxicity and acute in vivo toxicity of the complex Na2H8[{Re6Se8}(P(C2H4CONH2)(C2H4COO)2)6] solutions were considerably lower than those of compounds with fully hydrolysed ligand P(C2H4COOH)3. Such behavior can be explained by the higher osmolality of Na2H14[{Re6Q8}(P(C2H4COO)3)6] versus Na2H8[{Re6Se8}(P(C2H4CONH2)(C2H4COO)2)6]

    The research covers the communicative intentions of participants to Internet-communication on travel established by their values. A. Maslow's theory of human motivation claims that communicative intentions are based on human needs. Along with this, the theory of speech acts helps highlight language means which characterize a certain communicative intention. The rusults of the research provide a classification of communicative intentions and offer their detailed description.В работе рассматриваются коммуникативные интенции участников Интернет-коммуникации на тему путешествий, определенные системой их ценностных ориентаций. Согласно теории человеческой мотивации А. Маслоу, предпосылки коммуникативных интенций заложены в основе человеческих потребностей. Теория речевых актов при этом позволяет выделить определенные языковые средства, характерные для определенного типа коммуникативных интенций.     Luminescent silica mesoparticles for protein transduction

    Unlike silica nanoparticles, the potential of silica mesoparticles (SMPs) (i.e. particles of submicron size) for biological applications in particular the in vitro (let alone in vivo) cellular delivery of biological cargo has so far not been sufficiently studied. Here we examine the potential of luminescent (namely, octahedral molybdenum cluster doped) SMPs synthesised by a simple one-pot reaction for the labelling of cells and for protein transduction into larynx carcinoma (Hep-2) cells using GFP as a model protein. Our data demonstrates that the SMPs internalise into the cells within half an hour. This results in cells that detectably luminesce via conventional methods. In addition, the particles are non-toxic both in darkness and upon photo-irradiation. The SMPs were modified to allow their functionalisation by a protein, which then delivered the protein (GFP) efficiently into the cells. Thus, the luminescent SMPs offer a cheap and trackable alternative to existing materials for cellular internalisation of proteins, such as the HIV TAT protein and commercial protein delivery agents (e.g. Pierce™)

    Cellular imaging by green luminescence of Tb(III)-doped aminomodified silica nanoparticles

    © 2017 Elsevier B.V.The work introduces Tb(III)-centered luminescence of amino-modified silica nanoparticles doped with Tb(III) complexes for cellular imaging. For these purposes water-in-oil procedure was optimized for synthesis of 20 and 35 nm luminescent nanoparticles with amino-groups embedded on the surface. The obtained results indicate an impact of the nanoparticle size in decoration, aggregation behavior and luminescent properties of the nanoparticles in protein-based buffer solutions. Formation of a protein-based corona on the nanoparticles surface was revealed through the effect of the nanoparticles on helical superstructure of BSA. This effect is evident from CD spectral data, while no any size impact on the adsorption of BSA onto aminomodified silica surface was observed. Cellular uptake of the nanoparticles studied by confocal and TEM microscopy methods indicates greater cellular uptake for the smaller nanoparticles. Cytotoxicity of the nanoparticles was found to agree well with their cellular uptake behavior, which in turn was found to be greater for the smaller nanoparticles

    Addition of Ag2O in Er3+doped oxyfluorophosphate glass to allow the drawing of optical fibers

    Here, Ag2O containing glasses in the NaPO3–CaF2 glass network were prepared using standard melting process. The addition of Ag2O was found to increase the thermal stability of the glass due to the decrease in the Q2 units at the expense of Q1 units, to decrease the intensity of the upconversion under 980 nm pumping and to have a small impact on the nucleation and growth mechanism. Due to the thermal stability against crystallization of the glass prepared with 4 mol % of Ag2O, we demonstrate that fiber can be drawn from this glass. Despite the formation of Ag nanoparticles at the surface of the fiber although the drawing is a fast process, light can still be confined in the fiber. The fiber exhibits a large emission band centered at 1.5 μm under 980 nm pumping.Peer reviewe

    The aim of the study. Compare the efficiency of the use of dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DRA) and bioimpedansometry (BIM) in the evaluation of the body composition of hemodialysis patients.Patients and methods. 67 patients on hemodialysis, among which 23 men and 44 women aged 54±14,4 years. BIM and DRA were used to evaluate the body composition.Results. The results of determining the total muscle mass of the body obtained by the results of DFA and BIM were compared with the use of the Bland-Altman method. The correlation coefficient between the indices was R=0,994, p<0,0001, delta (M±s) was –0,48±0,91 kg, CI 95% (–0,71)…(–0,26) kg.Conclusion. DRA does not have significant advantages over tetrapolar multifrequency BIM when assessing the body composition in hemodialysis patients. Цель исследования: сравнить эффективность использования двухэнергетической рентгеновской абсорбциометрии (ДРА) и биоимпедансометрии (БИМ) в оценке компонентного состава тела гемодиализных пациентов.Материалы и методы: обследовано 67 пациентов, получающих лечение программным гемодиализом (ГД), среди них 23 мужчины и 44 женщины, средний возраст 54±14,4 года. Для оценки компонентного состава тела использовали БИМ и ДРА.Результаты. Результаты определения общей мышечной массы тела, полученной по результатам ДРА и БИМ сравнили с использованием метода Блэнда–Альтмана. Коэффициент корреляции между показателями составил r=0,994, p<0,0001, дельта (M±s) составила –0,48±0,91 кг, ДИ 95% (–0,71)… (–0,26) кг.Заключение: ДРА не имеет значимых преимуществ по сравнению с тетраполярной мультичастотной БИМ при оценке компонентного состава тела у больных на гемодиализе.

    The paper contains an analysis pertaining to operation of a gas compressor unit while applying imitation modeling in which probabilities of adverse events (failures) have been quantitatively evaluated. In order to obtain risk values of failures it is necessary to carry out an additional analysis of the importance of negative failure consequences (financial losses). The obtained risk values will allow to work out recommendations on reduction of risk by probability reduction of adverse events or by consequence scope of the given events that will allow to increase quality of the services supplied by the main pipeline transport. Проведен анализ функционирования газоперекачивающего агрегата с применением имитационного моделирования, в ходе которого количественно оценены вероятности неблагоприятных событий (отказов). Для получения численных значений риска отказов необходимо провести дополнительный анализ значимости негативных последствий отказов (финансовые потери). Полученные в дальнейшем значения риска позволят выработать рекомендации по уменьшению риска путем уменьшения вероятности неблагоприятных событий либо величины последствий данных событий, что позволит повысить качество услуг, предоставляемых магистральным трубопроводным транспортом
