    REPRODUCTIVE PERFORMANCE OF LOCAL BEEF COWS IN BOLAANG DISTRICT OF BOLAANG MONGONDOW REGENCY. This study aims to determine the reproductive performance of local beef cattle in Bolaang District, BolaangMongondow Regency. This study used local beef cattle owned by breeders who were taken as samples in several villages in Bolaang District, Bolaang Mongondow Regency. This study used a survey method to obtain primary and secondary data collection. Data analysis regarding the studied variables used descriptive analysis referring to the measurement of each variable. The results showed that service per conception was 1.38, conception rate was 70%, pregnancy period was 276.47 days, animal age of first calving was 32.022 months, and calving interval was 375.26 days. Based on these results of study, it can be concluded that the reproductive performance of local beef cattle in Bolaang district, Bolaang Mongondow regency was categorized into normal reproductive performance of local beef cattle. Key word: Reproduction, Local beef cow, Bolaang district, 

    Spontaneous polarisation of the neutral interface for valence asymmetric coulombic systems

    In this paper, we discuss the phenomenon of a spontaneous polarisation of a neutral hard planar interface for valence asymmetric coulombic systems. Within a field theoretical description, we account for the existence of non trivial charge density and electric potential profiles. The analysis of the phenomenon shows that the effect is related to combinatorics in relation with the existence of the two independent species cations and anions. This simple and basic feature is related to the quantum mechanical properties of the system. The theoretical results are compared with numerical simulations data and are shown to be in very good agreement, which a fortiori justifies our physical interpretation.Comment: 12 pages, 11 figure

    Multiscale modeling of a rectifying bipolar nanopore : comparing Poisson-Nernst-Planck to Monte Carlo

    In the framework of a multiscale modeling approach, we present a systematic study of a bipolar rectifying nanopore using a continuum and a particle simulation method. The common ground in the two methods is the application of the Nernst-Planck (NP) equation to compute ion transport in the framework of the implicit-water electrolyte model. The difference is that the Poisson-Boltzmann theory is used in the Poisson-Nernst-Planck (PNP) approach, while the Local Equilibrium Monte Carlo (LEMC) method is used in the particle simulation approach (NP+LEMC) to relate the concentration profile to the electrochemical potential profile. Since we consider a bipolar pore which is short and narrow, we perform simulations using two-dimensional PNP. In addition, results of a non-linear version of PNP that takes crowding of ions into account are shown. We observe that the mean field approximation applied in PNP is appropriate to reproduce the basic behavior of the bipolar nanopore (e.g., rectification) for varying parameters of the system (voltage, surface charge, electrolyte concentration, and pore radius).     In vivo efficiency of Bacillus sp. isolated from biofloc system on growth, haematological, immunological and antioxidant status of genetically improved farmed tilapia (GIFT)

    714-721In aquaculture, Biofloc technology is emerging as one of the successful sustainable technologies to increase production. It is known to possess several immunostimulatory compounds exhibiting possible probiotic effect in culture. Here, we explored the in vivo efficiency of Bacillus infantis (T1), B. subtilis (T2), Exiguobacterium profundum (T3) and B. megaterium (T4) isolated from biofloc systems for improving the growth and immune performance of genetically improved farmed tilapia (GIFT). Animals (10+0.08 g) were stocked at a density of 100 per m-3 in 500 L FRP tanks for 42 days in triplicate. All the four probiotics (OD =1) were mixed with basal diet in treatments and feed without probiotic maintained as control. A significant difference (P 0.05) in weight gain, specific growth rate and FCR were observed between treatments and control with 100% survival. Serum albumin, globulin, protein, total blood count, glucose, myeloperoxidase activity and SOD were significantly different (P B. megaterium and B. subtilis can be the promising probiotic bacteria isolated from biofloc systems exhibiting multiple benefits with improved growth and health of the culture animals

    Beyond Cookie Monster Amnesia:Real World Persistent Online Tracking

    Browser fingerprinting is a relatively new method of uniquely identifying browsers that can be used to track web users. In some ways it is more privacy-threatening than tracking via cookies, as users have no direct control over it. A number of authors have considered the wide variety of techniques that can be used to fingerprint browsers; however, relatively little information is available on how widespread browser fingerprinting is, and what information is collected to create these fingerprints in the real world. To help address this gap, we crawled the 10,000 most popular websites; this gave insights into the number of websites that are using the technique, which websites are collecting fingerprinting information, and exactly what information is being retrieved. We found that approximately 69\% of websites are, potentially, involved in first-party or third-party browser fingerprinting. We further found that third-party browser fingerprinting, which is potentially more privacy-damaging, appears to be predominant in practice. We also describe \textit{FingerprintAlert}, a freely available browser extension we developed that detects and, optionally, blocks fingerprinting attempts by visited websites

    SEROPREVALENCE OF BOVINE BRUCELLOSIS IN CENTRAL CAMEROON

    Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease with a significant economic and public health impact, which particularly affects humans and animal species in developing countries relying on livestock production. This study was conducted to provide asero-prevalence of bovine brucellosis in the central part of Cameroon. Sera from randomly collected blood samples were screened for Brucella antibodies using the rapid Rose Bengal Plate Test (RBPT) and the indirect Enzyme Linked Immuno­-Sorbent Assay(i-ELISA). A questionnaire was administered to butchers to trace the origin of each animal sampled and know the age and sex of these animals. Statistical significance was determined by Chi-Square test using SPSS v 20 software. A total of 460 cattle (both male and female) were screened. RBPT detected Brucella antibodies in 67 (14.63%) With iELISA, 41 (9, 4%) samples tested positive for detecting Brucella LPS antibodies for confirmation. Data such as animal ageand their origin were not significant; however, the sexwas statistically significant. Animals from Ngaoundere were found to be more affected than animals from Bertoua. Therefore, the overall sero-prevalence obtained was 67 (14.63%) for RBPT and 41 (9, 4%) for i-ELISA.

    Hypofractionated image-guided breath-hold SABR (Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy) of liver metastases - clinical results

    Purpose: Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy (SABR) is a non-invasive therapy option for inoperable liver oligometastases. Outcome and toxicity were retrospectively evaluated in a single-institution patient cohort who had undergone ultrasound-guided breath-hold SABR. Patients and methods: 19 patients with liver metastases of various primary tumors consecutively treated with SABR (image-guidance with stereotactic ultrasound in combination with computer-controlled breath-hold) were analysed regarding overall-survival (OS), progression-free-survival (PFS), progression pattern, local control (LC), acute and late toxicity. Results: PTV (planning target volume)-size was 108 +/- 109cm(3) (median 67.4 cm(3)). BED2 (Biologically effective dose in 2 Gy fraction) was 83.3 +/- 26.2 Gy (median 78 Gy). Median follow-up and median OS were 12 months. Actuarial 2-year-OS-rate was 31%. Median PFS was 4 months, actuarial 1-year-PFS-rate was 20%. Site of first progression was predominantly distant. Regression of irradiated lesions was observed in 84% (median time to detection of regression was 2 months). Actuarial 6-month-LC-rate was 92%, 1- and 2-years-LC-rate 57%, respectively. BED2 influenced LC. When a cut-off of BED2 = 78 Gy was used, the higher BED2 values resulted in improved local control with a statistical trend to significance (p = 0.0999). Larger PTV-sizes, inversely correlated with applied dose, resulted in lower local control, also with a trend to significance (p-value = 0.08) when a volume cut-off of 67 cm(3) was used. No local relapse was observed at PTV-sizes < 67 cm(3) and BED2 > 78 Gy. No acute clinical toxicity > degrees 2 was observed. Late toxicity was also <= degrees 2 with the exception of one gastrointestinal bleeding-episode 1 year post-SABR. A statistically significant elevation in the acute phase was observed for alkaline-phosphatase; in the chronic phase for alkaline-phosphatase, bilirubine, cholinesterase and C-reactive protein. Conclusions: A trend to statistically significant correlation of local progression was observed for BED2 and PTV-size. Dose-levels BED2 > 78 Gy cannot be reached in large lesions constituting a significant fraction of this series. Image-guided SABR (igSABR) is therefore an effective non-invasive treatment modality with low toxicity in patients with small inoperable liver metastases

    Phase transitions and ordering of confined dipolar fluids

    We apply a modified mean-field density functional theory to determine the phase behavior of Stockmayer fluids in slitlike pores formed by two walls with identical substrate potentials. Based on the Carnahan-Starling equation of state, a fundamental-measure theory is employed to incorporate the effects of short-ranged hard sphere - like correlations while the long-ranged contributions to the fluid interaction potential are treated perturbatively. The liquid-vapor, ferromagnetic liquid - vapor, and ferromagnetic liquid - isotropic liquid first-order phase separations are investigated. The local orientational structure of the anisotropic and inhomogeneous ferromagnetic liquid phase is also studied. We discuss how the phase diagrams are shifted and distorted upon varying the pore width.Comment: 15 pages including 8 figure
