Age and growth of hake Merluccius merluccius Linnaeus, 1758 from the Northeast Atlantic (ICES division IXa)

El objetivo de este estudio fue estimar los parámetros de edad y crecimiento de la merluza europea Merluccius merluccius Linnaeus, 1758 del nordeste atlántico (división IXa del CIEM, aguas continentales portuguesas), mediante el análisis de otolitos. Se observaron en total 951 cortes de otolitos, cubriendo un rango de longitud de peces de 10 a 80 cm, capturados en campañas realizadas entre octubre de 1996 y julio de 1997. La interpretación de los anillos anuales siguió los últimos criterios adoptados sobre atribución de edades, particularmente para los primeros grupos de edad. Se obtuvieron las claves trimestrales de edadlongitud considerando los sexos conjuntamente, así como la longitud media observada por edad. Se ha realizado una validación indirecta de los resultados basada en el análisis de las frecuencias de tallas utilizando el método de Bhattacharya. Los parámetros de crecimiento de la ecuación de Von Bertalanffy fueron L∞ = 110,6 cm, k = 0,08 años-1 y t0 = -0,97 años, valores similares a los estimados por otros autores para esta especie.The present study estimates age and growth parameters of the European hake Merluccius merluccius Linnaeus, 1758 from the Northeast Atlantic (ICES division IXa, Portuguese continental waters), based on otolith analysis. A total of 951 otoliths sections were examined, covering a length range of 10-80 cm, from fish taken during surveys carried out between October 1996 and July 1997. The annual ring interpretation followed the recently established standard ageing criteria, particularly for the first age groups. Quarterly age-length keys, for combined sexes, and the respective mean length at age were obtained. An indirect validation based on length-frequency analysis was performed using the Bhattacharya method. The estimated Von Bertalanffy growth parameters were L∞ = 110.6 cm, k = 0.08 year-1 and t0 = -0.97 year. Mapas conceptuales con cmap tools en la enseñanza universitaria de la educación ambiental : estudio de caso en la UNED

Se presenta una experiencia docente innovadora que constata la pertinencia del editor Cmap Tools para lograr los objetivos de la Educación Ambiental en el nivel educativo universitario. Los resultados avalan la potencialidad motivadora de este instrumento y su eficacia para facilitar la elaboración de mapas conceptuales, técnica que refuerza, simultáneamente, el pensamiento analítico de los estudiantes y su comprensión de las relaciones entre los conceptos básicos de la materia. Se confirma el papel para la calidad de los procesos formativos en el nivel de la enseñanza universitaria, tanto de las nuevas tecnologías y el software educativo como de las actividades que ponen en juego mecanismos de aprendizaje activo y participativo en los estudiantes.An innovative teaching experience is presented, which confirms the usefulness of the Cmap Tools software in order to achieve the goals of environmental education at the university educational level. The results support the motivational potential of this instrument and its effectiveness in facilitating the concept mapping technique that enhances simultaneously the analytical thinking of students and their understanding of the relationship between the basic concepts of the subject. The role for the quality of the learning processes at the level of university education is confirmed, both for new technologies and educational software and also for activities that bring into play mechanisms of active and participatory learning in students

Desarrollo evolutivo y parámetros determinantes del patrón motor de marcha humana

Siendo el desarrollo de la marcha humana objeto de estudio privilegiado en el ámbito de la motricidad, se ha realizado una revisión de las publicaciones en torno al desarrollo del mismo y el estudio de los parámetros que lo definen. El grupo de investigaciones más numeroso lo constituyen artículos que describen el comportamiento o evolución de algunos de los parámetros que definen este patrón. Además, encontramos varios estudios que relacionan la marcha con otras habilidades del ser humano o que estudian condiciones particulares o variantes en que se puede desarrollar este patrón. También encontramos varias propuestas de protocolos para la evaluación del patrón o de alguno de sus parámetros, así como evaluaciones de procedimientos ya existentes

Feminismo y libertad. Comentarios a los textos de Julia Varela y Fernando Álvarez-Uría

En mi trabajo, hago unas reflexiones críticas sobre los textos de Julia Varela y Fernando Álvarez-Uría, autores que resaltan el papel de mujeres pioneras en el movimiento feminista español y de emancipación femenina. Comentando el texto de Varela, añado unos datos adicionales sobre otra mujer de la época, Mercedes Escribano, que comparte muchos rasgos con las mujeres que ella estudia. Sobre el texto de Álvarez-Uría, subrayo los aspectos diferenciales en el funcionamiento psicológico, interpersonal y social de mujeres y varones, un tema que él destaca. La coherencia entre las propuestas de los dos trabajos se destaca en el texto.In this paper, I make some critical comments about the contributions of Julia Varela and Fernando Álvarez-Uría in which they emphasize the role of pioneer women in Spanish feminism and the emancipation of women. In my comments to Varela's paper, I have added some biographical notes on a woman, Mercedes Escribano, who lived at the same time and shared many aspects with the women that she studies. My comments on Álvarez-Uría's text are based on the differential aspects of men and women in psychological, interpersonal and social functioning; a topic which he widely studies. The consistency among these two proposals is emphasized

Sinoicismo y stolati en Emerita, Caesaraugusta y Pax: Una relectura de Estrabón III, 2, 15

Once again, this work calls into question some of the more traditional translations which have been largely accepted by historians and archaeologists alike, but have led to errors. The text I'm examining now, Estrabon III, 2, 15, is one of the best known and most quoted in all Spanish Ancient History. The seven changes now put forward allow for many new points of view. The generally accepted word «togátoi» (from Kramer, 1844) should most definitely be rejected in this paragraph and also in III, 4, 20. The natives described are really «stolátoi», but not all their tribes however; only the ones chosen for sinoikismus. In fact, throughout this paragraph, Estrabon is praising the Latinisation of these territories, and not their romanisation. For Estrabon the three cities mentioned (Caesaraugusta, Eme- rita and Paxaugusta) are póleis or katoikíai, but not apoikíai; therefore they cannot be coloniae ex novo, but pre existing municipia, mixed and with strong military contingents. The dates believed for their possible colonisation conflict with those suggested by Augustus in his Res Gestae: the years 30, 14 o 7-2 B.C. Finally, a possible explanation for the physical appearance of these stolátoi, possibly cives Latini: the statues and bas-reliefs of men dressed in the so-called pallium or toga exigua, until now, in Spain as in Italy and Rome, classified as palliati
