Due to the increase in online video game play, this study aimed to find possible positive impacts that online multiplayer video games had on freshmen who are adjusting to college, as this is a pivotal point in life. The data were collected at the beginning of the second semester and 99 freshman, 18 years or older, who regularly engaged in online multiplayer video games participated in the study. The study showed four important findings: First, students who receive support from online gaming experience lower levels of stress. Second, students who think negatively about online gaming tend to have lower levels of college adjustment. Third, higher levels of negative thoughts about gaming are linked to feeling more stressed. Fourth, students who feel less stressed tend to adjust better to college

    Get PDF
Exchange rate volatility has been regarded as a vital macroeconomic concern for the policy makers and its impact on economic growth has gained much attention from the researchers in recent years. Existing studies tried to analyze the impact focusing on financial development. In contrast, we have given effort to examine it taking into account the trade dependence of the country. A panel of seven developing Asian countries has been studied for a total of 29 years (from 1985 to 2013). In order to generate the variable “exchange rate volatility” GARCH (1, 1) model is used with the monthly exchange rate of the countries for the period 1985 to 2013. By using cross sectional dependence test and panel unit root test the variable properties has been diagnosed and Pooled OLS, Panel Least Squares with Single Fixed Effects as well as Both way Fixed Effects and Panel EGLS with Mixed Effects has been used as the estimation technique. The findings suggest that exchange rate volatility has significant negative impact on economic growth and the impact becomes even more negative whenever Trade – GDP ratio is considered. In particular the negative impact of exchange rate volatility becomes more negative the higher the Trade – GDP ratio of the country. The finding is found to be robust against the definition of exchange rate volatility

There has been increasing recognition that the second-generation antipsychotic drugs can produce extrapyramidal side effects. This case reports the development of severe akathisia in a patient being treated with ziprasidone for bipolar depression. The case illustrates that this symptom can be easily mistaken for worsening agitated depression. Akathisia may produce considerable distress and elevate suicide risk. Such symptoms may persist for weeks and be refractory to discontinuation of the offending agent or to pharmacological interventions commonly used to mitigate this reaction

OUTPUT-PRICE DYNAMICS IN THE ASEAN-5 COUNTRIES: Evidence from The Pre- and Post-1997 Financial Turmoil

    Get PDF
We analyze the cyclical behavior between outputs and prices in major ASEAN economies, namely Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines over two sample periods: the precrisis period (1990 to 1996) and the post-crisis period (2000 to 2006). Specifically, the study aims to shed the light on two issues: (i) the possibility that there is a change in the patterns of the correlations between real activities and prices in a particular country in the pre-crisis period compared to the post-crisis periodand (ii) the synchronization of real activity and price relationships or the business cycles across the major ASEAN countries. In order to analyze the output-price relationship across the countries and time periods, we adopt several tests including the Pearson correlation analysis, Auto-Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model and Vector Error-Correction Model (VECM). The study documents that the output-price relationship has changed in several countries following the crisis in 1997/1998. While there is a clear business cycles synchronization between the ASEAN-5 countries in the short-run, results have been mixed in the long run. Results of this study contribute towards further enriching the policy recommendations to help ensuring the viability and effectiveness of the economic cooperation between the ASEAN nations

Abstract - This study explores the economic integration among the ASEAN-5 economies over two sample periods; the pre-crisis period (1990 to 1996) and post-crisis period (2000 to 2006). Using the output-price approach, it attempts to determine if the nature of integration among these economies has changed due to the Asian financial crisis in 1997. In methodology, the study adopts the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach and Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). The results show that the crisis has a deep imprint on the degree of economic integration among these countries. The results provide important inputs for macroeconomic policy formulation at the regional level
