    Theories about translation and self-translation between Catalan and Spanish literatures during Franco’s dictatorship are strictly subject to cultural and linguistic dispositions imposed by Franco’s regime from its victory. The explicit banning of any publication in Catalan, as well as the feeble slots opened with the pass of the decades, explicitly marks the evolution of translation and self-translation between both literatures. The goal of this article is to examine from a theoretical point of view, based on the Polysystem Theory and P. Casanova’s approach, the relation between both literatures through translation and self-translation, especially during Franco’s dictatorship, which lasted more than thirty years.Las premisas teóricas a propósito de la traducción y la autotraducción entre las literaturas catalana y española durante el régimen franquista están estrechamente sujetas a las disposiciones lingüísticas y culturales que la dictadura impuso desde el mismo momento de su victoria. La prohibición explícita de cualquier publicación en lengua catalana, así como las tímidas ranuras que se fueron abriendo con el paso de las décadas marcan claramente el devenir de la traducción y la autotraducción entre las dos literaturas. El objetivo de este trabajo es revisar desde un punto de vista teórico, partiendo de la teoría de los polisistemas y los planteamientos de P. Casanova, la relación entre ambas literaturas a través de la traducción y la autotraducción, especialmente durante los más de treinta años de dictadura franquista

    Investigation of physicochemical and tribological properties of TiO2 nano-lubricant oil of different concentrations

    Nano-lubricants provide enhanced tribological properties in several applications like machines and engines. The presence of nanoparticles in the lubricating oil effects its wear, friction, thermal, chemical and physical properties in many ways. This article reports effect of TiO2 nanoparticles suspended in servo system lubricating oil prepared by sonication process without adding any surfactant. Four different volume concentrations (0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6% and 0.8%) of TiO2 nanoparticles in the base lubricating oil are used for analysis. Calorific value, flash point, viscosity are the physicochemical properties of the TiO2 nano-lubricant investigated at different Volume Concentrations (VC). Wear scar diameter and coefficient of friction are the tribological properties analyzed for the prepared nano-lubricant at different VCs. Calorific value and flash point of the nano-lubricant was found to be decreasing with increasing VCs compared to base lubricant oil. Viscosity, on the other hand was almost same as the base lubricant oil for the proposed VCs. Wear scar diameter and friction coefficient was found to increase with increase in VC of TiO2 nanoparticles in the lubricant oil. It is concluded that, to obtain better results agglomeration of nanoparticles has to be avoided which can be achieved with the use of surfactant

    On a Watson-like Uniqueness Theorem and Gevrey Expansions

    We present a maximal class of analytic functions, elements of which are in one-to-one correspondence with their asymptotic expansions. In recent decades it has been realized (B. Malgrange, J. Ecalle, J.-P. Ramis, Y. Sibuya et al.), that the formal power series solutions of a wide range of systems of ordinary (even non-linear) analytic differential equations are in fact the Gevrey expansions for the regular solutions. Watson's uniqueness theorem belongs to the foundations of this new theory. This paper contains a discussion of an extension of Watson's uniqueness theorem for classes of functions which admit a Gevrey expansion in angular regions of the complex plane with opening less than or equal to (\frac \pi k,) where (k) is the order of the Gevrey expansion. We present conditions which ensure uniqueness and which suggest an extension of Watson's representation theorem. These results may be applied for solutions of certain classes of differential equations to obtain the best accuracy estimate for the deviation of a solution from a finite sum of the corresponding Gevrey expansion.Comment: 18 pages, 4 figure

    Analysis of Gender Differences in Facial Expression Recognition Based on Deep Learning Using Explainable Artificial Intelligence

    Potential uses of automated Facial Expression Recognition (FER) cover a wide range of applications such as customer behavior analysis, healthcare applications or providing personalized services. Data for machine learning play a fundamental role, therefore, understanding the relevancy of the data in the outcomes is of utmost importance. In this work we present a study on how gender influences the learning of a FER system. We analyze with Explainable Artificial intelligence (XAI) techniques how gender contributes to the learning and assess which facial expressions are more similar regarding face regions that impact on the classification. Results show that there exist common regions in some expressions both for females and males with different intensities (e.g. happiness); however, there are other expressions like disgust, where important face regions differ. The insights of this work will help improving FER systems and understand the source of any inequality

    Bio-ethylene Production: from Reaction Kinetics to Plant Scale

    Ethylene production from renewable bio-ethanol has been recently proposed as sustainable alternative to fossil sources. The possibility to exploit diluted bioethanol as less expensive feedstock was studied both experimentally, using different catalysts at lab-level, and through preliminary process design. In this work, a full-scale plant simulation is presented, built on a detailed reaction kinetics. Rate equations for the primary and side reactions are revised and implemented with a process simulation package, using a range of thermodynamic methods as best suited to the different process stages. The catalyst loading within the reactor can be effectively distributed according to the underlying kinetic, and the overall plant layout let foresee the best routes for the material recycles. The detailed reaction modeling and the choice of the thermodynamic models are essential to obtain reliable predictions. Setting a target yield of 105 t/year of polymer-grade ethylene, the reactive section must be fed with 76 t/h of diluted ethanol and operated at 400 \ub0C. 85% of the fed carbon mass is found as ethylene, 12% remains as ethanol and a 2% as longer olefins. Considering also the recycle of ethanol the carbon conversion and recovery increases to the value of 97.6%. The global ethylene recovery is 90.7%: most of the loss takes place in the last stage due to the non-condensable purification and to the adopted strategy of having low reflux ratio \u2013 and then a closed cryogenic balance \u2013 in the last purification column. Full heat integration of the process with upstream bioethanol production and purification sections allows process intensification and consistent energy savings. This newly designed process sets the sustainable ethylene production on a detailed and reassessed computational basis and has been assessed as for Capital and Operational Expenditures and Total Investment costs
