On IT risk management ontology using DEMO

    Get PDF
Nowadays, organisations use and rely on Information Technology (IT) solutions. However, despite their benefits, IT solutions induct risks. Consequently, organisations implement Risk Management (RM), more specifically Information Technology Risk Management (IT RM), in order to maximize the effectiveness of IT usage while dealing with IT risks. Nevertheless, IT RM's implementation is not easy, since numerous standards and frameworks propose multiple RM processes to deal with IT risks. Moreover, these processes are composed of different activities causing confusion. In the end, organisations are not capable of managing risks successfully due to IT RM's complexity. To overcome IT RM diversity, a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted. The goal is to identify which are the most essential IT RM activities. The SLR results were then integrated with ISO 31000 and PMBOK standards in the form of an ontology using Design and Engineering Methodology Ontology (DEMO). The contributions of this study are: the aggregate analysis of IT RM activities through the SLR; the identification of reasons and benefits of using DEMO; a description of an IT RM's essential model designed as an ontology; and a critical view of the benefits of the ontological model proposed.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

Adolescents who stay, parents who migrate: gender inequalities, resilience and coping strategies in Tajikistan

Studies on the consequences of migration often ignore the perspectives of children and adolescents who remain in the origin country while their migrant parents are absent. This is the case in Tajikistan, one of the poorest and most remittance-dependent countries in the world. Using a qualitative methodology, microethnography, we interviewed eight teenagers aged between 12 and 18, in the city of Khorugh, Tajikistan, to explore the impact of migration from their perspective. Findings reveal that these adolescents ‘understand’ the reasons for their parents’ migration in a way that both gives coherence to this migration and invests young people with resilience and coping strategies. As a result, all the young people naturalised having to live with sadness, reflecting the ‘normalisation’ of this social cost in wider Tajik society. However, the experiences and coping strategies of those interviewed are gendered; boys were more likely to ‘rationalise’ their experience and be aloof; girls more likely to express emotional upset. In practical terms, boys also received more benefits from remittances while girls reported feeling overwhelmed by domestic chores expected of them. Through this study, we contribute to the recent literature on the lived experiences and agency of non-migrant teenagers.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

An exploratory study on teams’ performance, client-reported outcomes and satisfaction

Background: Community pharmacy teams (CPTs) have an established role in assisting self-medication, contributing to the safe and effective use of non-prescription medicines. Objective: The study aimed to describe CPTs’ performance in self-medication consultation, client-reported outcomes, and satisfaction. A secondary purpose was to develop an explanatory model for better understanding clients’ satisfaction with this service. Methods: Descriptive, cross-sectional exploratory study. Data were collected in a purposive sample of pharmacy clients recruited in six community pharmacies in Portugal. CPTs adopted a structured approach to self-medication consultations, encompassing 11 quality criteria (five for case evaluation and six for counselling). An evaluation score, a counselling score and an overall quality score were estimated. Client-reported outcomes and satisfaction were ascertained via a follow-up telephone interview. Besides descriptive statistics, the association with several independent variables on the clients’ overall satisfaction was explored, using linear regression. Results: Product-based dispensing was more frequent for lower educated clients. Reported compliance with the criteria by CPTs was overall high (93.95% of maximum compliance), mostly missing the ‘other medication’ questioning. Most clients (93%) reported improvement after the consultation. Clients’ satisfaction score was 4.70 out of 5. The variables that seem to better explain clients’ overall satisfaction are pharmacy loyalty, the evaluation score, and the female gender. Conclusions: Clients’ reported outcomes were favourable, as well as satisfaction with the service. Clients’ satisfaction appears to be determined by consultation quality (evaluation score), suggesting the advancement of the pharmacists’ clinical role. A larger study is warranted to confirm these findings.publishersversionpublishe

Dichotic listening (DL) was evaluated in 36 children with: verbal dichotic listening test, alternating dissilable dichotic test and non-verbal dichotic listening test. Children were separated into two groups: experimental group with 18 dyslexic children and control group with 18 normal children. Both groups were comparable in gender, laterality and social-economic level. All dyslexic children underwent neuroimaging exam (SPECT). Our data showed that there was a statistical difference between both groups in all DL tests. Abnormal SPECT findings were seen in 50% of the dyslexic children, hypoperfusion of the left temporal lobe being the most frequent abnormality. We conclude that dyslexic children present an impairment of central neurologic processing that may be detected by DL tests, and by functional imaging exam, such as SPECT, as well.

Lower solar atmosphere and magnetism at ultra-high spatial resolution

    Get PDF
We present the scientific case for a future space-based telescope aimed at very high spatial and temporal resolution imaging of the solar photosphere and chromosphere. Previous missions (e.g., HINODE, SUNRISE) have demonstrated the power of observing the solar photosphere and chromosphere at high spatial resolution without contamination from Earth's atmosphere. We argue here that increased spatial resolution (from currently 70 km to 25 km in the future) and high temporal cadence of the observations will vastly improve our understanding of the physical processes controlling solar magnetism and its characteristic scales. This is particularly important as the Sun's magnetic field drives solar activity and can significantly influence the Sun-Earth system. At the same time a better knowledge of solar magnetism can greatly improve our understanding of other astrophysical objects

Yarrowia lipolytica as a cell factory to produce valuable compounds

Book of Abstracts of CEB Annual Meeting 2017Yarrowia lipolytica, a strictly aerobic yeast, with GRAS status, has an intense secretory activity and can metabolize a wide range of substrates that guaranteed a spot as an interesting industrial organism. Recently, food supplements derived from this yeast were approved for commercialization, which is particularly important for broadening the range of possible applications of the compounds produced by Y. lipolytica [1]. Within “Bioprocess Development and Optimization” research team, Y. lipolytica has been used as a cell model and exploited applying the biorefinery concept for the production of enzymes, microbial lipids, aroma and organic acids, using low-cost renewable substrates. A yeast-based integrated system was developed to valorize agro-industrial wastes, namely waste cooking oils and lard (used as a model of animal fat), by producing microbial lipids and lipase. The yeast oil content accumulated by Y. lipolytica from these inexpensive wastes was one of the higher ever reported for a non-genetically modified Yarrowia strain. Moreover, the simultaneous production of lipase may reduce the production cost of the microbial lipids and demonstrates that a biorefinery approach may be designed based on fat raw materials, allowing at the same time the reduction of fatty wastes surplus. Lipids accumulation on Y. lipolytica may also occur from non-oily substrates such as glucose or glycerol that can also lead to citric acid (CA) production under nitrogen-limitation conditions. Crude glycerol, byproduct from Biodiesel industry, has been used for CA production. Optimization of CA has been carried out by enhancing oxygen transfer rate at different types of bioreactors, such as STR, pressurized and airlift, as well as by mutagenesis strategies for strains improvement. Yarrowia lipolytica is a model microorganism for lipids metabolism. It can produce several compounds from fatty acids catabolism, mainly aromatic compounds, such as lactones. This species is able to transform ricinoleic acid into γ-decalactone, a peach-like aroma compound of great importance for flavoring industry. The production of γ-decalactone has been intensively studied in order to better understand all process and optimize it. The role of lipases in substrate hydrolysis, the effect of substrate concentration, dissolved oxygen concentration and different fermentation strategies - batch and stepwise fed-batch – and bioreactor designs (STR and airlift) in the γ-decalactone production was investigated [2]. The characterization of γ-decalactone production by genetic modified strains at labscale bioreactor was also performed. Yarrowia lipolytica potential to produce other aromatic compounds, such as 2-phenylethanol, is been now explored.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
