    Exploring the journey to services

    Firms are increasingly providing services to complement their product offerings. The vast majority of studies on the service journey, also known as servitization or service transition, examine the challenges and enablers of the process of change through cases studies. Investigations that provide an in-depth longitudinal analysis of the steps involved in the service journey are much rarer. Such a detailed understanding is required in order to appreciate fully how firms can leverage the enablers while overcoming the challenges of servitization. This study investigates what does a service journey look like? It analyzes in some detail the actual service journeys undertaken by three firms in the well-being, engineering and learning sectors. The paper offers four contributions. First, in the change literature, there are two dominant theories: The punctuated equilibrium model and the continuous change model. This study demonstrates that servitization follows a continuous change rather than a punctuated equilibrium. It shows that such continuous change is neither logical nor structured but much more emergent and intuitive in nature. Second, the study provides empirical evidence to support a contingency view of the dominance and sequencing of the different process models of change across the change journey. Third, this research shows the pace of service development and when the coexistence of basic, intermediate and complex services occurs. Finally, it contributes to the literature in the service field by presenting three actual service journeys and the associated seven stages of the service strategy model that organizations should consider when managing their service journeys

    PESQUISAS DESENVOLVIDAS NO PROGRAMA DE PÓS-GRADUAÇÃO EM GERONTOLOGIA DA UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DE SÃO CARLOS E SUA IMPORTÂNCIA NO CONTEXTO DO ENVELHECIMENTO

    Esta revisão narrativa tem como objetivo apresentar e discutir a relevância dos estudos desenvolvidos no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Gerontologia da Universidade Federal de São Carlos (PPGGero/UFSCar). Os dados foram coletados na disciplina “Seminários Avançados em Gerontologia”, em que os docentes autores apresentaram suas linhas de pesquisa, as quais foram compiladas pelos discentes autores. Os resultados desta revisão apresentam os estudos realizados em um programa interdisciplinar de mestrado acadêmico que possui duas linhas de pesquisa denominadas: 1) Saúde, Biologia e Envelhecimento; e 2) Gestão, Tecnologia e Inovação em Gerontologia. Os estudos se inserem em diversas temáticas da área do envelhecimento, que se articulam entre ambas as linhas de pesquisa do programa. Na linha 1 destacam-se estudos relacionados à cognição, à demência e suas consequências aos pacientes e cuidadores, bem como a pesquisas relacionadas ao seu diagnóstico e cuidado. Destacam-se também pesquisas epidemiológicas e aquelas relacionadas a condições ou doenças comuns no envelhecimento, como dor crônica, osteoartrite e, mais recentemente, a infecções em idosos, incluindo a COVID-19. Na linha 2 destacam-se pesquisas relacionadas a tecnologias assistivas voltadas aos idosos, bem como estratégias de marketing e políticas de atenção para esse público. É notório que a multidimensionalidade de abordagens das questões do envelhecimento exige enfoque multidisciplinar sobre um contexto de excelência acadêmica. Assim, conclui-se que as pesquisas do PPGGero/UFSCar, ao abrangerem várias áreas do conhecimento – as quais permeiam as ciências humanas, biológicas, sociais e exatas no contexto de tecnologia e inovação –, promovem a formação de mestres e pesquisadores que contribuem para a produção de conhecimento em Gerontologia no país

    Technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT) are offering new opportunities and posing serious challenges to firms, forcing them to create entirely new business models, migrating from the conventional product-centric approaches to (digitally-based) service-oriented ones. This paper \u2013 following a qualitative research method \u2013 aims at describing the service-oriented impact of IoT technologies on firms' business models, with a particular focus on opportunities and challenges for BtoB manufacturing firms. Being the impact of IoT technologies on businesses a quite recent research stream, to date scarce attention has been devoted to the topic with specific attention to its impact on service-oriented business models in manufacturing firms. The paper contributes in this research stream in different ways. It proposes a map of digital servitization that helps in understanding firms' strategic transitions caused by technologies, making both theoretical and managerial contributions. Firstly, the research underlines the impact of the firms' sales model as a strategic factor in shaping firms' digital servitization strategies. In addition, three progressive levels of digital servitization complexity are identified, namely product- process- and outcome-oriented, that are based on an increasing use of IOT technologies and have specific challenges and opportunities
