Metabolic regulation and the anti-obesity perspectives of brown adipose tissue (BAT); a systematic review

Background: Obesity is a disease that body energy intake is more than energy expenditure. In rodents and humans, there are two types of adipose tissue: White adipose tissue and Brown adipose tissue. Whereas WAT stores excess energy as triacylglycerols, BAT is specialized in the production of heat. Methods: PubMed and Cochrane databases were searched using the related keywords to find related documents published until August 2019. In total, 115 published reports were reviewed in the study. Results: Obesity associated with different diseases such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, stroke, arthritis, and various types of cancer. Until recent years, it treated in various ways, such as diet, physical activity, using medications, and surgical procedures. In recent years, Brown adipose tissue has been recognized as a way to combat obesity and metabolic regulation. Conclusions: Recent years are challenging times for all those working in the field of obesity and the pace of discovery about obesity than ever before. During the last decades, many notable discoveries resulting from the active research into the pathophysiological mechanisms controlling food intake, energy expenditure, and body fat mass have been produced. Potential new avenues are opened for the future treatment of obesity by the recent findings and its related disorders, although finding practical solutions to the problems posed by obesity could ultimately depend as much on clever science and good clinical practice as on actively engaging the individual and society alike to change everyday lifestyle. © 2019 Elsevier Lt

On 10 January 2020, a new coronavirus causing a pneumonia outbreak spread rapidly in all of the World. On 19 February 2020, the first official announcement of death from 2019-Nov was made in Iran. As of 7 March 2020, there were 101,927 confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection, including 3486 deaths, reported in the World. In the eastern and Mediterranean region Iran with 4747 confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection and 124 deaths, is in the critical stage. Therefore, there is a matter of urgency combating this new virus and stopping the epidemic. Here, we focus on symptoms and the development of fast diagnosis methods, as well as potential management to prevent or treat the Covid-19 infection. © 2020, Indian Virological Society

Priority of strategic plans in BSC model by using of group decision making model

Strategic planning is especially important for organization's success and creation of competitive advantage in a competitive and complicated environment, and on the other hand achievement and implementation of strategies can perform an important role for the purpose of organizations' success, balanced scorecard is a new tool for designing operational strategies. One of Balanced Scorecard problems is the abs use of priority in strategic plans' performance. So, in this article by using proposed model, using the consensus of organization's managers and experts' opinions, measures of four perspectives and general objectives are determined in BSC, and then using experts' opinions and taking the relative importance of decision makers' opinions into consideration, by using 1Topsis method that it is one of Group Decision Making Model, the performances of strategic plans are prioritized in BSC model. The introduced method is used in a study and extracted results from it are analyzed from different points of view. In this article Initiatives is called strategic plans

A newly developed integrative bio-inspired artificial intelligence model for wind speed prediction

Accurate wind speed (WS) modelling is crucial for optimal utilization of wind energy. NumericalWeather Prediction (NWP) techniques, generally used for WS modelling are not only less cost-effective but also poor in predicting in shorter time horizon. Novel WS prediction models based on the multivariate empirical mode decomposition (MEMD), random forest (RF) and Kernel Ridge Regression (KRR) were constructed in this paper better accuracy in WS prediction. Particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO) was employed to optimize the parameters of the hybridized MEMD model with RF (MEMD-PSO-RF) and KRR (MEMD-PSO-KRR) models. Obtained results were compared to those of the standalone RF and KRR models. The proposed methodology is applied for monthly WS prediction at meteorological stations of Iraq, Baghdad (Station1) and Mosul (Station2) for the period 1977-2013. Results showed higher accuracy of MEMD-PSO-RF model in predicting WS at both stations with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.972 and r D 0.971 during testing phase at Station1 and Station2, respectively. The MEMD-PSO-KRR was found as the second most accurate model followed by Standalone RF and KRR, but all showed a competitive performance to the MEMD-PSO-RF model. The outcomes of this work indicated that the MEMD-PSO-RF model has a remarkable performance in predicting WS and can be considered for practical applications

Frequency and clinical patterns of stroke in Iran - Systematic and critical review

Abstract

Background

Cerebrovascular disease is the second commonest cause of death, and over a third of stroke deaths occur in developing countries. To fulfil the current gap on data, this systematic review is focused on the frequency of stroke, risk factors, stroke types and mortality in Iran.

Methods

Thirteen relevant articles were identified by keyword searching of PubMed, Iranmedex, Iranian University index Libraries and the official national data on burden of diseases.

Results

The publication dates ranged from 1990 to 2008. The annual stroke incidence of various ages ranged from 23 to 103 per 100,000 population. This is comparable to the figures from Arab Countries, higher than sub-Saharan Africa, but lower than developed countries, India, the Caribbean, Latin America, and China. Similarly to other countries, ischaemic stroke was the commonest subtype. Likewise, the most common related risk factor is hypertension in adults, but cardiac causes in young stroke. The 28-day case fatality rate is reported at 19-31%.

Conclusions

Data on the epidemiology of stroke, its pattern and risk factors from Iran is scarce, but the available data highlights relatively low incidence of stroke. This may reflect a similarity towards the neighbouring nations, and a contrast with the West.</p
