A Framework for Understanding of Bilingual Education in Turkey: A Mixed Method Approach
This study seeks to identify the obstacles and opportunities involved in setting up a bilingual education system and to identify the challenges and benefits associated with the daily experience of maintaining a bilingual education model. This study discusses the benefits of developing a bilingual education program and what these programs can offer regarding concerns related to the lives of minority people in Turkey. Explanatory sequential mixed method was used for this study. The first phase of this study was a survey that measured the perspectives of educators regarding potential bilingual education curricula in Turkey. The second phase comprised a qualitative data collection process to expand on the findings of quantitative results. For quantitative data collection, 140 participants responded the survey instrument. Participants included 96 males and 44 females. For qualitative data collection, eight participants were interviewed. Both quantitative and qualitative data reflected the benefits of a bilingual education program. First, minority students who are taught by means of a bilingual education program can protect their linguistic knowledge, cultural heritage, ethnic, and religious identity. Second, they can increase their understanding of linguistic and cultural diversity. Third, school attendance at the primary school level could be increased. Fourth, a bilingual program could contribute to the reduction of inequalities
Pemanfaatan Fermentasi Tumpi Jagung Sebagai Alternatif Ketersediaan Pakan Ternak di Desa Keli Kecamatan Woha
Counseling on “Utilization of Corn Tumpi Fermentation as an Alternative for Availability of Livestock Feed in Keli Village, Woha Sub-district, was held in September involving farmers, especially those who raise cattle and goats in Keli Village, Woha District, Bima Regency. Another target is the general public who want to know and need knowledge in the fermentation of corn tumpi in animal feed. This activity was carried out through counseling and discussion as well as short training through demonstrations and practices on the manufacture of fermented corn tumpi. This counseling involved more than 29 participants from the planned 20 participants and also involved 6 final semester students. The results of the extension showed that the extension participants were very enthusiastic about the training material, which could be seen from their active participation in all activities, especially during discussion and practice sessions and increasing understanding of the benefits and technology of corn tumpi fermentation as animal fee
Newton\u27s Method for Distance Optimization in Firefly Algorithm in Determining Optimum Nutrition for Laying Hens
An accurate calculation of feed nutrition and more affordable price is an extremely complex. Firefly algorithm is an algorithm designed for optimization calculation whose output is highly dependent on light intensity (β), which is influenced by distance (r). Therefore, in order to produce maximum output values, an optimization of firefly distance should be done. The most appropriate method is Newton\u27s Method as it has the capability of solving roots of equations accurately. From the testing of distance optimization in firefly algorithm, a fairly good increase in the fitness value was obtained
Syndecan-4 knockout leads to reduced extracellular transglutaminase-2 and protects against tubulointerstitial fibrosis
Transglutaminase type 2 (TG2) is an extracellular matrix crosslinking enzyme with a pivotal role in kidney fibrosis. The interaction of TG2 with the heparan sulfate proteoglycan syndecan-4 (Sdc4) regulates the cell surface trafficking, localization, and activity of TG2 in vitro but remains unstudied in vivo. We tested the hypothesis that Sdc4 is required for cell surface targeting of TG2 and the development of kidney fibrosis in CKD. Wild-type and Sdc4-null mice were subjected to unilateral ureteric obstruction and aristolochic acid nephropathy (AAN) as experimental models of kidney fibrosis. Analysis of renal scarring by Masson trichrome staining, kidney hydroxyproline levels, and collagen immunofluorescence demonstrated progressive fibrosis associated with increases in extracellular TG2 and TG activity in the tubulointerstitium in both models. Knockout of Sdc-4 reduced these effects and prevented AAN-induced increases in total and active TGF-b1. In wild-type mice subjected to AAN, extracellular TG2 colocalized with Sdc4 in the tubular interstitium and basement membrane, where TG2 also colocalized with heparan sulfate chains. Heparitinase I, which selectively cleaves heparan sulfate, completely abolished extracellular TG2 in normal and diseased kidney sections. In conclusion, the lack of Sdc4 heparan sulfate chains in the kidneys of Sdc4-null mice abrogates injury-induced externalization of TG2, thereby preventing profibrotic crosslinking of extracellular matrix and recruitment of large latent TGF-b1. This finding suggests that targeting the TG2- Sdc4 interaction may provide a specific interventional strategy for the treatment of CKD
HRM formality differences in Pakistani SMEs: a three-sector comparative study
Purpose
Guided by institutional theory, this empirical paper examines variations in the adoption of HRM practices among SMEs in three different business sectors (services, manufacturing and trade).
Design/methodology/approach
Data from 300 owners/managers representing three business sectors were collected through a survey method.
Findings
The results suggest that service SMEs use more formal HRM practices than manufacturing and trade SMEs. Manufacturing SMEs are more formal than trade firms. Results are not affected by firm age.
Research limitations/implications
Social desirability bias may have influenced respondents into portraying a positive image of the organization by inflating HRM sophistication. A further limitation is that the performance of the firms was not measured. As such, it is not possible to judge whether greater HRM formality correlated with improved organizational performance.
Practical implications
This study shows how the business sector shapes HRM practices in Pakistani SMEs. Findings help to inform Pakistan's Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA) in dealings with manufacturing and trade firms in terms of improving HRM practices.
Originality/value
Given the important role of SMEs in economic development, comparative research on HRM in SME contexts is scarce. Since SMEs are vital for Pakistan's economy, an improved understanding of the sector's approach to human resource development is important. The findings extend the boundaries of prior comparative HRM literature in SMEs by addressing sector influences while controlling for contextual factors
