Interferometric Evidence for Resolved Warm Dust in the DQ Tau System
We report on near-infrared (IR) interferometric observations of the
double-lined pre-main sequence (PMS) binary system DQ Tau. We model these data
with a visual orbit for DQ Tau supported by the spectroscopic orbit & analysis
of \citet{Mathieu1997}. Further, DQ Tau exhibits significant near-IR excess;
modeling our data requires inclusion of near-IR light from an 'excess' source.
Remarkably the excess source is resolved in our data, similar in scale to the
binary itself ( 0.2 AU at apastron), rather than the larger circumbinary
disk ( 0.4 AU radius). Our observations support the \citet{Mathieu1997}
and \citet{Carr2001} inference of significant warm material near the DQ Tau

MeV/, 1862 MeV/, or 3099 MeV/ using decay modes ,

Experimental determination of microwave attenuation and electrical permittivity of double-walled carbon nanotubes
The attenuation and the electrical permittivity of the double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs) were determined in the frequency range of 1â65 GHz. A micromachined coplanar waveguide transmission line supported on a Si membrane with a thickness of 1.4 ”m was filled with a mixture of DWCNTs. The propagation constants were then determined from the S parameter measurements. The DWCNTs mixture behaves like a dielectric in the range of 1â65 GHz with moderate losses and an abrupt change of the effective permittivity that is very useful for gas sensor detection. ©2006 American Institute of Physic
On the SigmaN cusp in the pp -> pK+Lambda reaction
Measurements of the reaction at = 2.28 GeV have
been carried out at COSY-TOF. In addition to the FSI and
resonance excitation effects a pronounced narrow structure is observed in the
Dalitz plot and in its projection on the -invariant mass. The
structure appears at the N threshold and is interpreted as
N cusp effect. The observed width of 20 MeV/ is substantially
broader than anticipated from previous inclusive measurements. Angular
distributions of this cusp structure are shown to be dissimilar to those in the
residual channel, but similar to those observed in the
channel
Variations of the 10 um Silicate Features in the Actively Accreting T Tauri Stars: DG Tau and XZ Tau
Using the Infrared Spectrograph aboard the Spitzer Space Telescope, we
observed multiple epochs of 11 actively accreting T Tauri stars in the nearby
Taurus-Auriga star forming region. In total, 88 low-resolution mid-infrared
spectra were collected over 1.5 years in Cycles 2 and 3. The results of this
multi-epoch survey show that the 10 um silicate complex in the spectra of two
sources - DG Tau and XZ Tau - undergoes significant variations with the
silicate feature growing both weaker and stronger over month- and year-long
timescales. Shorter timescale variations on day- to week-long timescales were
not detected within the measured flux errors. The time resolution coverage of
this data set is inadequate for determining if the variations are periodic.
Pure emission compositional models of the silicate complex in each epoch of the
DG Tau and XZ Tau spectra provide poor fits to the observed silicate features.
These results agree with those of previous groups that attempted to fit only
single-epoch observations of these sources. Simple two-temperature, two-slab
models with similar compositions successfully reproduce the observed variations
in the silicate features. These models hint at a self-absorption origin of the
diminution of the silicate complex instead of a compositional change in the
population of emitting dust grains. We discuss several scenarios for producing
such variability including disk shadowing, vertical mixing, variations in disk
heating, and disk wind events associated with accretion outbursts.Comment: 6 pages, emulate apj format, accepted for publication in ApJ Letter
Phenomenology of pp->pp eta reaction close to threshold
The recent high statistics measurement of the pp -> pp eta reaction at an
excess energy Q=15.5 MeV has been analysed by means of partial wave
decomposition of the cross section. Guided by the dominance of the final state
1S0 pp interaction (FSI), we keep only terms involving the FSI enhancement
factor. The measured p-p and p-eta effective mass spectra can be well
reproduced by lifting the standard on-shell approximation in the enhancement
factor and by allowing for a linear energy dependence in the leading 3P0->1S0,s
partial wave amplitude. Higher partial waves seem to play only a marginal role
