XQOWL: An Extension of XQuery for OWL Querying and Reasoning
One of the main aims of the so-called Web of Data is to be able to handle
heterogeneous resources where data can be expressed in either XML or RDF. The
design of programming languages able to handle both XML and RDF data is a key
target in this context. In this paper we present a framework called XQOWL that
makes possible to handle XML and RDF/OWL data with XQuery. XQOWL can be
considered as an extension of the XQuery language that connects XQuery with
SPARQL and OWL reasoners. XQOWL embeds SPARQL queries (via Jena SPARQL engine)
in XQuery and enables to make calls to OWL reasoners (HermiT, Pellet and
FaCT++) from XQuery. It permits to combine queries against XML and RDF/OWL
resources as well as to reason with RDF/OWL data. Therefore input data can be
either XML or RDF/OWL and output data can be formatted in XML (also using
RDF/OWL XML serialization).Comment: In Proceedings PROLE 2014, arXiv:1501.0169
A diode laser stabilization scheme for 40Ca+ single ion spectroscopy
We present a scheme for stabilizing multiple lasers at wavelengths between
795 and 866 nm to the same atomic reference line. A reference laser at 852 nm
is stabilized to the Cs D2 line using a Doppler-free frequency modulation
technique. Through transfer cavities, four lasers are stabilized to the
relevant atomic transitions in 40Ca+. The rms linewidth of a transfer-locked
laser is measured to be 123 kHz with respect to an independent atomic
reference, the Rb D1 line. This stability is confirmed by the comparison of an
excitation spectrum of a single 40Ca+ ion to an eight-level Bloch equation
model. The measured Allan variance of 10^(-22) at 10 s demonstrates a high
degree of stability for time scales up to 100 s.Comment: 8 pages, 11 figure

Stereoselective cyanation of 4-formyl and 4-imino-β-lactams: Application to the synthesis of polyfunctionalized γ-lactams
The stereoselective reaction of 4-oxoazetidine-2-carbaldehydes and their corresponding imines with cyanide-based reagents give β-lactam α-aminonitriles, which are chameleonic building blocks for the controlled synthesis of a variety of new compounds including functionalized γ-lactams, succinimide derivatives, and diamino-lactams derivatives in optically pure form. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. StructuraI correlation between soil humins and kerogens as seen by analyticaI pyrolysis
3 pages, 1 figure, 1 table, 10 references. Publicación incluida en: Select papers from the 17th International Meeting on Organic Geochemistry. 4-8/09/1995, San Sebastián, España.The possibility of the accumulation in soils of stable aliphatic materials has been postulated as a
non-exclusive altemative to classical models for humus formation, based on the selective preservation of
aromatic biomacromolecules. Such a hypothesis represents an actualistic approach to the formation process
of fossil organic sediments and conforms to recent findings regarding the humification process in specific
compartments in active terrestrial soils. In order to bring sorne light into this possible connection we
investigated the pyrolytic behaviour of humin preparations isolated by two physical methods.Peer reviewe
Quantum interference from remotely trapped ions
We observe quantum interference of photons emitted by two continuously
laser-excited single ions, independently trapped in distinct vacuum vessels.
High contrast two-photon interference is observed in two experiments with
different ion species, calcium and barium. Our experimental findings are
quantitatively reproduced by Bloch equation calculations. In particular, we
show that the coherence of the individual resonance fluorescence light field is
determined from the observed interference
