Investigation of the linguistic construction of Identity in Individuals with Traumatic Brain Injury
This study looks at the linguistic expression of identity or sense of self in individuals with a traumatic brain injury or blast injury sustained on military deployment. Data is obtained from everyday conversations the participants undergo with their usual communication partners. Methods described by systemic functional linguistics are used in order to analyse this conversational data and the focus of analysis is on the ideational meanings created and interpersonal metafunction in describing how the exchange of information results in the construction of an individual’s identity or sense of self
Exploring the Dust Content of Galactic Winds with Herschel. I. NGC 4631
We present a detailed analysis of deep far-infrared observations of the
nearby edge-on star-forming galaxy NGC 4631 obtained with the Herschel Space
Observatory. Our PACS images at 70 and 160 um show a rich complex of filaments
and chimney-like features that extends up to a projected distance of 6 kpc
above the plane of the galaxy. The PACS features often match extraplanar
Halpha, radio-continuum, and soft X-ray features observed in this galaxy,
pointing to a tight disk-halo connection regulated by star formation. On the
other hand, the morphology of the colder dust component detected on larger
scale in the SPIRE 250, 350, and 500 um data matches the extraplanar H~I
streams previously reported in NGC 4631 and suggests a tidal origin. The PACS
70/160 ratios are elevated in the central ~3.0 kpc region above the nucleus of
this galaxy (the "superbubble"). A pixel-by-pixel analysis shows that dust in
this region has a higher temperature and/or an emissivity with a steeper
spectral index (beta > 2) than the dust in the disk, possibly the result of the
harsher environment in the superbubble. Star formation in the disk seems
energetically insufficient to lift the material out of the disk, unless it was
more active in the past or the dust-to-gas ratio in the superbubble region is
higher than the Galactic value. Some of the dust in the halo may also have been
tidally stripped from nearby companions or lifted from the disk by galaxy

Rh-catalyzed linear hydroformylation of styrene
Usually the Rh-catalyzed hydroformylation of styrene predominantly yields the
branched, chiral aldehyde. An inversion of regioselectivity can be achieved
using strong π-acceptor ligands. Binaphthol-based diphosphite and bis
(dipyrrolyl-phosphorodiamidite) ligands were applied in the Rh-catalyzed
hydroformylation of styrene. High selectivities up to 83% of 3-phenylpropanal
were obtained with 1,1-bi-2-naphthol-based bis(dipyrrolyl-phosphorodiamidite)
with virtually no hydrogenation to ethyl benzene. The coordination chemistry

Atom-wave diffraction between the Raman-Nath and the Bragg regime: Effective Rabi frequency, losses, and phase shifts
We present an analytic theory of the diffraction of (matter) waves by a
lattice in the "quasi-Bragg" regime, by which we mean the transition region
between the long-interaction Bragg and "channelling" regimes and the
short-interaction Raman-Nath regime. The Schroedinger equation is solved by
adiabatic expansion, using the conventional adiabatic approximation as a
starting point, and re-inserting the result into the Schroedinger equation to
yield a second order correction. Closed expressions for arbitrary pulse shapes
and diffraction orders are obtained and the losses of the population to output
states otherwise forbidden by the Bragg condition are derived. We consider the
phase shift due to couplings of the desired output to these states that depends
on the interaction strength and duration and show how these can be kept
negligible by a choice of smooth (e.g., Gaussian) envelope functions even in
situations that substantially violate the adiabaticity condition. We also give
an efficient method for calculating the effective Rabi frequency (which is

A Utility Framework for COVID-19 Online Forward Triage Tools: A Swiss Telehealth Case Study.
The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic caused a surge in online tools commonly known as symptom checkers. The purpose of these symptom checkers was mostly to reduce the health system burden by providing worried people with testing criteria, where to test and how to self-care. Technical, usability and organizational challenges with regard to online forward triage tools have also been reported. Very few of these online forward triage tools have been evaluated. Evidence for decision frameworks may be of particular value in a pandemic setting where time frames are restricted, uncertainties are ubiquitous and the evidence base is changing rapidly. The objective was to develop a framework to evaluate the utility of COVID-19 online forward triage tools. The development of the online forward triage tool utility framework was conducted in three phases. The process was guided by the socio-ecological framework for adherence that states that patient (individual), societal and broader structural factors affect adherence to the tool. In a further step, pragmatic incorporation of themes on the utility of online forward triage tools that emerged from our study as well as from the literature was performed. Seven criteria emerged; tool accessibility, reliability as an information source, medical decision-making aid, allaying fear and anxiety, health system burden reduction, onward forward transmission reduction and systems thinking (usefulness in capacity building, planning and resource allocation, e.g., tests and personal protective equipment). This framework is intended to be a starting point and a generic tool that can be adapted to other online forward triage tools beyond COVID-19. A COVID-19 online forward triage tool meeting all seven criteria can be regarded as fit for purpose. How useful an OFTT is depends on its context and purpose
Near Chromosome-Level Genome Assembly and Annotation of Rhodotorula babjevae Strains Reveals High Intraspecific Divergence
The genus Rhodotorula includes basidiomycetous oleaginous yeast species. Rhodotorula babjevae can produce compounds of biotechnological interest such as lipids, carotenoids, and biosurfactants from low value substrates such as lignocellulose hydrolysate. High-quality genome assemblies are needed to develop genetic tools and to understand fungal evolution and genetics. Here, we combined short- and long-read sequencing to resolve the genomes of two R. babjevae strains, CBS 7808 (type strain) and DBVPG 8058, at chromosomal level. Both genomes are 21 Mbp in size and have a GC content of 68.2%. Allele frequency analysis indicates that both strains are tetraploid. The genomes consist of a maximum of 21 chromosomes with a size of 0.4 to 2.4 Mbp. In both assemblies, the mitochondrial genome was recovered in a single contig, that shared 97% pairwise identity. Pairwise identity between most chromosomes ranges from 82 to 87%. We also found indications for strain-specific extrachromosomal endogenous DNA. A total of 7591 and 7481 protein-coding genes were annotated in CBS 7808 and DBVPG 8058, respectively. CBS 7808 accumulated a higher number of tandem duplications than DBVPG 8058. We identified large translocation events between putative chromosomes. Genome divergence values between the two strains indicate that they may belong to different species.Peer Reviewe
Impaired kidney function at ED admission: a comparison of bleeding complications of patients with different oral anticoagulants.
BACKGROUND
Up to a fourth of patients at emergency department (ED) presentation suffer from acute deterioration of renal function, which is an important risk factor for bleeding events in patients on oral anticoagulation therapy. We hypothesized that outcomes of patients, bleeding characteristics, therapy, and outcome differ between direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) and vitamin-K antagonists (VKAs).
METHODS
All anticoagulated patients older than 17 years with an impaired kidney function treated for an acute haemorrhage in a large Swiss university ED from 01.06.2012 to 01.07.2017 were included in this retrospective cohort study. Patient, treatment, and bleeding characteristics as well as outcomes (length of stay ED, intensive care unit and in-hospital admission, ED resource consumption, in-hospital mortality) were compared between patients on DOAC or VKA anticoagulant.
RESULTS
In total, 158 patients on DOAC and 419 patients on VKA with acute bleeding and impaired renal function were included. The renal function in patients on VKA was significantly worse compared to patients on DOAC (VKA: median 141 μmol/L vs. DOAC 132 μmol/L, p = 0.002). Patients on DOAC presented with a smaller number of intracranial bleeding compared to VKA (14.6% DOAC vs. 22.4% VKA, p = 0.036). DOAC patients needed more emergency endoscopies (15.8% DOAC vs, 9.1% VKA, p = 0.020) but less interventional emergency therapies to stop the bleeding (13.9% DOAC vs. 22.2% VKA, p = 0.027). Investigated outcomes did not differ significantly between the two groups.
CONCLUSIONS
DOAC patients were found to have a smaller proportional incidence of intracranial bleedings, needed more emergency endoscopies but less often interventional therapy compared to patients on VKA. Adapted treatment algorithms are a potential target to improve care in patients with DOAC
