Finite Element Approximation of Data-Driven Problems in Conductivity

This paper is concerned with the finite element discretization of the data driven approach according to arXiv:1510.04232 for the solution of PDEs with a material law arising from measurement data. To simplify the setting, we focus on a scalar diffusion problem instead of a problem in elasticity. It is proven that the data convergence analysis from arXiv:1708.02880 carries over to the finite element discretization as long as $H(\mathrm{div})$-conforming finite elements such as the Raviart-Thomas element are used. As a corollary, minimizers of the discretized problems converge in data in the sense of arXiv:1708.02880, as the mesh size tends to zero and the approximation of the local material data set gets more and more accurate. We moreover present several heuristics for the solution of the discretized data driven problems, which is equivalent to a quadratic semi-assignment problem and therefore NP-hard. We test these heuristics by means of two examples and it turns out that the "classical" alternating projection method according to arXiv:1510.04232 is superior w.r.t. the ratio of accuracy and computational time.Comment: 28 page

SBAR und I-PASS : was die Literatur zu den zwei Übergabeinstrumenten aufzeigt

Der Übergaberapport ist ein wichtiger Faktor für die Sicherheit der Patientinnen und Patienten. 60 Prozent der unerwünschten Zwischenfälle in Spitälern gehen auf unvollständige oder fehlerhafte Übergaben zurück. Ein einheitliches Übergabeschema erhöht das Verständnis, reduziert das Risikopotenzial von Übergaben und macht sie effizienter. Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht die Auswirkungen der Instrumente SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) und I-PASS (Illness Severity, Patient Summary, Action Items, Situation Awareness and Contingency Plans, Synthesis by Receiver) auf Übergaberapporte in der Pflege. Es wurde in den Datenbanken CINAHL complete und PubMed eine systematisierte Literaturrecherche durchgeführt. Die Dauer der Übergaben verändert sich mit der Anwendung von SBAR und I-PASS nicht. Jedoch erhöht sich die Übergabequalität und die Sicherheit der Patientinnen und Patienten wird dadurch positiv beeinflusst. Die Mitarbeitenden sind zufriedener mit dem strukturierten Übergaberapport. Es zeigten sich keine negativen Effekte nach Einführung der Instrumente. Übergaberapporte brauchen eine Struktur, um effizienter und sicherer zu werden. Solche Strukturen sind heute noch nicht Standard. Instrumente wie SBAR und I-PASS haben den Vorteil, dass sie in unterschiedlichen Bereichen des Gesundheitswesens eingesetzt werden können. Bisher gibt es noch keine validierten Übergabeinstrumente

Assessing the impact of sodium butyrate and a light-activated proton pump on energy metabolism and lifespan of Drosophila melanogaster and Caenorhabditis elegans

In this thesis, the impact of sodium butyrate (SB) on mitochondrial and metabolic function and lifespan was investigated. SB treatment showed a rapid and transient increase in oxygen consumption in fly heads. Mass spectrometry analysis revealed incorporation of labeled SB into mitochondrial pathway metabolites. An SB-independent way for mitochondrial activation was assessed in this work. The mitochondrial membrane potential of C. elegans was increased, using a light-activated proton pump, resulting in an extended median lifespan, even if the intervention took part in mid- or late-staged worms.Auswirkungen von Natriumbutyrat (SB) auf mitochondriale und metabolische Funktionen und die Lebensspanne wurden untersucht. SB-Behandlung führte zu einem raschen und vorübergehenden Anstieg des Sauerstoffverbrauchs in Fliegenköpfen. Massenspektrometrische Analysen zeigten den Einbau von markiertem SB in mitochondriale Stoffwechselprodukte. Außerdem wurde ein SB-unabhängiger Weg zur mitochondrialen Aktivierung untersucht. Das Membranpotenzial von C. elegans wurde mittels einer lichtaktivierten Protonenpumpe erhöht, dies verlängerte die mittlere Lebensspanne, sowohl in mittleren/späten Stadien

Tutkimuksen tarkoitus on selvittää kulttuurierojen merkitystä parisuhteelle, naisten käsitystä islaminuskosta ja uskonnon merkityksestä perheelle Tutkimusmenetelmänä on käytetty teemahaastattelua. Haastateltavana oli viisitoista suomalaisnaista. Heidän aviopuolisoitaan ei haastateltu. Tutkimuksen teoria muodostuu islamin uskon esittelystä, keskittyen erityisesti naisen asemaan uskonnon määräysten mukaan ja käytännössä islaminuskoisissa maissa. Lisäksi tutkimuksessa on käytetty maahanmuuttajatutkimuksia ja suomalaisia sosiaalityön tutkimuksia. Tutkimuksen empiirisessä osassa on käytetty naisten kertomuksia elämästään. Näkökulma on arkielämän kuvauksessa, lisäksi naiset kertovat omia käsityksiään kulttuurierojen merkityksestä perhe-elämäänsä. Osa tutkimuksen naisista on kääntynyt itse islaminuskoon ja he kokivat sen vaikuttavan positiivisesti avioliittoonsa. Haastatteluaineistosta on pyritty nostamaan esiin teemoja, joita maahanmuuttajatutkimuksissa on käsitelty, kuten maahanmuuttajien integraatio. Maahanmuuttajapuolison integroitumisella Suomeen ja avioliiton onnellisuudella näyttää olevan yhteys. Monikulttuuriset perheet joutuvat kohtaamaan syrjintää ja rasismia, joka kohdistuu sekä maahanmuuttajataustaiseen että suomalaiseen puolisoon. Suomalaisen vaimon lähiomaiset eivät aina hyväksy ulkomaalaista vävyä sukuun. Perheillä on taloudellisia vaikeuksia, koska maahanmuuttajapuoliso on usein työtön. Erilaiset kulttuuritaustat ja eri uskonto eivät olleetkaan ainoita tekijöitä, jotka toivat epävarmuutta tutkimukseni avioliittoihin. Ulkoa päin tulevat vaikeudet koettiin usein suuremmaksi ongelmaksi. Seka-aviolittot päättyvät eroon huomattavasti useammin kuin suomalaisten väliset avioliitot. Tutkimuksessa lähestyn monikulttuuristen perheiden elämää myös käytännön sosiaalityön näkökulmasta. Pyrin selvittämään, miten monikulttuuriset perheet eroavat perheistä, joissa molemmat puolisot ovat maahanmuuttajataustaisia ja miten sosiaalityössä pystyttäisiin paremmin vastaamaan näiden perheiden erityistarpeisiin

"So look, I will, I will move them there" - Dynamiken von sozialen Netzwerken aushandeln, erheben und analysieren

Mittlerweile sind in der bestehenden Literatur zur sozialen Netzwerkanalyse vielfältige Hinweise dahingehend zu finden, dass Netzwerke nicht als starre Gebilde, sondern als dynamische Beziehungsgeflechte zu verstehen sind. Bei näherer Betrachtung fällt jedoch auf, dass in der Auseinandersetzung mit eben solchen Strukturveränderungen weiterhin auf statische Netzwerkmomente zurückgegriffen wird. An dieser Stelle setzt der vorliegende Beitrag an. Es wird der Frage nachgegangen, wie die besagten Dynamiken tatsächlich sichtbar gemacht und im Forschungsprozess fruchtbar eingebunden werden können. Hierzu stehen in der Diskussion zwei Interessensschwerpunkte im Fokus. Zunächst richtet sich der Blick auf Momente der Reflexion, Aushandlung und Verdichtung von Netzwerk(dynamik)en im Erhebungsprozess und deren Dokumentation. Weiterführend wird beleuchtet, inwiefern die Zusammenführung von narrativen und visuellen dynamischen Netzwerkelementen bei der Datenanalyse potenzialbringend eingebunden werden kann. Für eine Veranschaulichung werden empirische Beispiele herangezogen. Das Datenmaterial setzt sich aus leitfadengestützten Interviews in Kombination mit laptopbasierten prozessualen egozentrierten Netzwerkkarten zusammen. Diese wurden mit dem Programm VennMaker erhoben und resultierten in einer audiovisuellen Filmdatei, die wiederum als Grundlage zur Untersuchung von Netzwerkentstehung und -veränderungen diente. Für die Auswertung wurde dem Ansatz der qualitativen strukturalen Analyse gefolgt.In the existing literature on social network analysis a variety of trends can be found that networks should not be understood as static structures, but as dynamic relationships. But when examining the existing debate on structural changes in networks, it turns out that scholars still use statically determined network concepts for their research. This is where the present article begins: How can these dynamics actually be made visible and how can they be fruitfully integrated into the research process? First, I focus on moments of reflection, negotiation, and consolidation of network(dynamic)s during data collection and documentation process. Second, I examine to what extent the merging of narrative and visual dynamic network elements can be incorporated in the data analyses in a potential-generating way. Empirical examples are used for illustration. The data material consists of guided interviews in combination with laptop-based procedural ego-centered network maps. These were collected with VennMaker and resulted in an audio-visual film, which served as a basis for the investigation of network formation and changes. Das Chemerin-Rezeptor-System in seinem Einfluss auf die Glukosehomöostase von Nagerzellen und sein Vorkommen in humanen Tumorzellen

Chemerin und sein Rezeptor CMKLR1 wurden als Regelsystem metabolischer Funktionen beschrieben, darunter im Besonderen der in pankreatischen Inselzellen auf Grund des dort lokalisierten Rezeptors, sowie die Funktion von Chemerin als Adipokin. Potentiell könnten sich daraus neue Behandlungsstrategien der T2DM-assoziierten Insulinresistenz ergeben. Dazu sind jedoch weitere Studien der physiologischen Funktion von Chemerin erforderlich. In dieser Arbeit wurde gezeigt, dass Chemerin über den auf α-Zellen lokalisierten CMKLR1 in bestimmten Stoffwechsellagen Einfluss auf die Glukagonsekretion dieser Zellen nehmen kann. Die an α-Zellen vorgenommenen in vitro Versuche zeigten eine die Glukagonsekretion hemmende Wirkung von Chemerin. Um weitere Behandlungsansätze des T2DM und im größeren Rahmen auch Entstehungs- und Behandlungsweisen des Metabolischen Syndroms zu entwickeln und zu verstehen, spielt das Verständnis der physiologischen und pathologischen Funktion von Chemerin und seiner drei Rezeptoren eine große Rolle. Hierzu wurden diverse humane und einige murine Zelllinien auf das Vorkommen von CMKLR1, GPLR1 und CCRL2 mit unterschiedlichen Methoden (Immunfluoreszenz, Western Blot, qPCR) getestet. Die Analysen zeigten, dass eine Reihe von humanen Tumorzelllinien sehr hohe Expressionswerte aufwiesen, die auf eine Überexpression des entsprechenden Rezeptors in der zugehörigen Tumorentität hindeuten könnten. CMKLR1 könnte angesichts der Befunde in DU4475- und MDA-MB-23- Zellen im Mammakarzinom überexprimiert sein. Die DU4475-Zelllinie wurde in dieser Arbeit als geeignetes Modellsystem für die Untersuchung des potenziellen Targets CMKLR1 im Mammakarzinom identifiziert.Chemerin and its receptor CMKLR1 have been described as a regulatory system for metabolic functions, especially connected to the pancreatic islet cells due to local receptor localisation as well as the function of Chemerin as an adipokine. Potentially this knowledge can lead to new therapeutic strategies of T2DM-assocciated insulin resistance. For this purpose, further studies of the physiological function of Chemerin are necessary. This report shows that Chemerin can influence the glucose secretion of α-cells in certain metabolic states via CMKLR1 located on these cells. The performed in vitro experiments with α-cells show an inhibiting effect of Chemerin on the glucose secretion. To develop new therapeutic strategies for T2DM and, on a larger scale, also understand and contrive treatment options for metabolic syndrome the physiological and pathological functions of Chemerin and its three receptors plays a key role. For this purpose, various humane as well as several murine cell lines were tested for CMKLR1, GPLR1 and CCRL2 expression with varying methods (immunofluorescence, Western Blot, qPCR). Analysis showed that a series of humane tumour cell lines show very high expression rates which may point to an overexpression of the according receptors in the corresponding tumour entity. Regarding the results in DU4475- and MDA-MB-23-cells CMKLR1 may be overexpressed in mammary carcinoma. In this study, the DU4475- cell line was identified as an appropriate model system for testing the potential target CMKLR1 in mammary carcinoma

The hitting time of clique factors

In a recent paper, Kahn gave the strongest possible, affirmative, answer to Shamir's problem, which had been open since the late 1970s: Let $r \ge 3$ and let $n$ be divisible by $r$. Then, in the random $r$-uniform hypergraph process on $n$ vertices, as soon as the last isolated vertex disappears, a perfect matching emerges. In the present work, we transfer this hitting time result to the setting of clique factors in the random graph process: At the time that the last vertex joins a copy of the complete graph $K_r$, the random graph process contains a $K_r$-factor. Our proof draws on a novel sequence of couplings, extending techniques of Riordan and the first author. An analogous result is proved for clique factors in the $s$-uniform hypergraph process ($s \ge 3$)

X-ray monitoring of the radio and gamma-ray loud Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 Galaxy PKS 2004-447

We present preliminary results of the X-ray analysis of XMM-Newton and Swift observations as part of a multi-wavelength monitoring campaign in 2012 of the radio-loud narrow line Seyfert 1 galaxy PKS 2004-447. The source was recently detected in gamma-rays by Fermi/LAT among only four other galaxies of that type. The 0.5-10 keV X-ray spectrum is well-described by a simple absorbed powerlaw (photon index ~ 1.6). The source brightness exhibits variability on timescales of months to years with indications for spectral variability, which follows a 'bluer-when-brighter' behaviour, similar to blazars.Comment: Proceedings for the 'Jet 2013' conference.
