An annotated bird checklist for Gam island, Raja Ampat, including field notes on species monitoring and conservation
Species checklists are a fundamental component of biodiversity research. They foster understanding of species distributions and habitat preferences, thus reducing gaps of knowledge in geographical occurrences of species. Especially in light of the limited availability of data on species distributions for Tanah Papua, an increasing scientific focus on the region is crucial to foster and refine the knowledge of species occurrences and to inform potential conservation planning. Despite a strong focus on conservation of Raja Ampat´s marine areas, surprisingly few studies have focused on the terrestrial biodiversity of the archipelago. As a consequence, detailed species checklists are largely missing. Here, we provide a preliminary bird species checklist for the island of Gam and its surrounding islands, located in the central Raja Ampat archipelago. During nine sampling periods between 2013 and 2019, we recorded 132 bird species in six distinct habitat types. Of the detected species, six are considered threatened by IUCN Red List criteria. We further recorded three new species for Gam Island, thereby expanding their known extent of occurrence
Interventional Cardiology in Europe 1993
An annual survey on cardiac interventions in Europe is performed by the working group on Coronary Circulation of the European Society of Cardiology with the help of the national societies of cardiology. A questionnaire about cardiac interventions in 1993 was mailed to a representative of the national societies of 35 members of the European Society of Cardiology. The data collection of coronary interventions was delayed by slow backreporting and from 10 of the 35 national members data were missing or grossly incomplete. They were excluded from the analysis. Coronary anglography A total of 756 822 coronary angiograms were reported resulting in an incidence of 1146 ± 1024 per 106 inhabitants, ranging from 24 (Romania) to 3499 (Germany). This represents an increase of 12% compared to 1992. Germany (279 882 cases), France (157 237), the United Kingdom (77 000), Italy (44 934) and Spain (37 591) registered 79% of all the coronary angiograms performed. Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioptasty A total of 183 728 percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty cases were reported in 1993, 24% more than in 1992. On average, they accounted for 18 ± 7% (range 8 (Romania) to 35% (Sweden)) of the coronary angiograms. Most of these percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasties (82%) were confined to a single vessel. In 13% only, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty took place immediately after the diagnostic study. Adjusted per capita, Germany ranks first with 873 percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasties per 106 inhabitants, followed by France (737), Holland (725), Belgium (713), and Switzerland (665). The European mean of percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasties per 106 inhabitants was 270 ± 279, representing an increase of 14% compared with 1992. A major in-hospital complication was reported in 3.8% of the patients undergoing percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty: 0.6% hospital deaths, 1.5% emergency coronary artery bypass graftings, and 1.7% myocardial infarctions. New devices In 1993 stents were implanted in 6444 patients (3.5% of all percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty patients), equally distributed between bail-out situations (53%) and elective procedures. The 14 stent implanting countries showed a mean increase in the incidence of coronary stenting of 53% compared with 1992. Other interventional devices were applied in 7045 cases, i.e. 3.8% of all percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty cases. Coronary ultrasound (2194 cases) and coronary angioscopy (380 cases) were performed infrequently. Non-coronary interventions Valvuloplasties were the most frequently performed non-coronary interventions. Six European countries performed more than 300 valvuloplasties each in 1993. Most of them were mitral valvuloplasties in southern countries. Conclusions Although partial backreporting might bias conclusions, several findings of this survey are noteworthy for the participating countries: The number of percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasties is universally increasing. There is an extremely wide range of coronary angiography and percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasties performed per population. The most common additional procedure is a stent implantation while other new devices are only rarely applied. Mitral valvuloplasty is the most frequently performed non-coronary intervention. ENIGMA-anxiety working group : Rationale for and organization of large-scale neuroimaging studies of anxiety disorders

Neuroimaging has informed our understanding of the neurobiology of anxiety disorders, but research has been limited by small sample sizes and low statistical power, as well as heterogenous imaging methodology. The ENIGMA-Anxiety Working Group has brought together researchers from around the world, in a harmonized and coordinated effort to address these challenges and generate more robust and reproducible findings. This paper elaborates on the concepts and methods informing the work of the working group to date, and describes the initial approach of the four subgroups studying generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and specific phobia. At present, the ENIGMA-Anxiety database contains information about more than 100 unique samples, from 16 countries and 59 institutes. Future directions include examining additional imaging modalities, integrating imaging and genetic data, and collaborating with other ENIGMA working groups. The ENIGMA consortium creates synergy at the intersection of global mental health and clinical neuroscience, and the ENIGMA-Anxiety Working Group extends the promise of this approach to neuroimaging research on anxiety disorders
Central and Peripheral Oxygen Distribution in Two Different Modes of Interval Training
In high-intensity interval training the interval duration can be adjusted to optimize training results in oxygen uptake, cardiac output, and local oxygen supply. This study aimed to compare these variables in two interval trainings (long intervals HIIT3m: 3 min work, 3 min active rest vs. short intervals HIIT30s: 30 s work, 30 s active rest) at the same overall work rate and training duration. 24 participants accomplished both protocols, (work: 80% power output at VO2peak, relief: 85% power output at gas exchange threshold) in randomized order. Spirometry, impedance cardiography, and near-infrared spectroscopy were used to analyze the physiological stress of the cardiopulmonary system and muscle tissue. Although times above gas exchange threshold were shorter in HIIT3m (HIIT3m 1669.9 ± 310.9 s vs. HIIT30s 1769.5 ± 189.0 s, p = 0.034), both protocols evoked similar average fractional utilization of VO2peak (HIIT3m 65.23 ± 4.68% VO2peak vs. HIIT30s 64.39 ± 6.78% VO2peak, p = 0.261). However, HIIT3m resulted in higher cardiovascular responses during the loaded phases (VO2p p < 0.001). Local hemodynamics were not different between both protocols. Average physiological responses were not different in both protocols owning to incomplete rests in HIIT30s and large response amplitudes in HIIT3m. Despite lower acute cardiovascular stress in HIIT30s, short submaximal intervals may also trigger microvascular and metabolic adaptions similar to HIIT3m. Therefore, the adaption of interval duration is an important tool to adjust the goals of interval training to the needs of the athlete or patient

Die Analyse möglicher Effekte von geförderten Innovationsaktivitäten für die gesamte Belegschaft eines Unternehmens konzentriert sich auf Faktoren wie Arbeitsplatzsicherheit, Arbeitsplatzstabilität und Arbeitskräfteumschlag, Entlohnung und Belegschaftsstruktur (z. B. Lehrausbildungsaktivitäten) im Unternehmen. Erstmals wird dafür ein Datensatz aus FFG- und AURELIA-Daten bzw. administrativen Daten des Hauptverbandes der österreichischen Sozialversicherungsträger generiert.
Den Ergebnissen der Wirkungsanalyse zufolge ziehen Innovationsaktivitäten auf Unternehmensebene leichte Veränderungen in der Belegschaftsstruktur nach sich. Innovationsgeförderte Unternehmen nehmen tendenziell zusätzliche Arbeitskräfte auf, bei denen es sich eher um Männer als um Frauen und um junge und höher qualifizierte Menschen handelt. Tadpoles of three western African frog genera: Astylosternus Werner, 1898, Nyctibates Boulenger, 1904, and Scotobleps Boulenger, 1900 (Amphibia, Anura, Arthroleptidae)
Herein, we describe the tadpoles of six Astylosternus species, A. fallax, A. cf. fallax, A. laurenti, A. montanus, A. perreti, A. ranoides, and Scotobleps gabonicus, and redescribe the tadpoles of A. batesi, A. diadematus, A. laticephalus, A. occidentalis, A. rheophilus, and Nyctibates corrugatus. All Astylosternus tadpoles are adapted to torrent currents and share a long, oval body, slightly flattened in lateral view, with very long muscular tails with narrow fins. The jaws are massive, serrated, and often show a tooth-like medial projection (fang) in the upper jaw. Body proportions of Astylosternus tadpoles are extremely similar. The best characters to distinguish species might be life coloration and potentially the shape of labial papillae. The tadpole of Scotobleps gabonicus is similar to Astylosternus and differs only slightly by a narrower body with a shorter and rounder head. The upper jaw of Scotobleps carries two or three lateral fangs instead of one medial one. The tadpole of Nyctibates corrugatus is easily distinguishable from the other two genera on the basis of their very long, eel-shaped body and tail and the bluish-black color
