Maize synthetics from a mixture of single, three-way, and double cross hybrids using inbreeding coefficients and mean predictions
Equations for inbreeding coefficient and mean prediction were calculated for a synthetic made with a mixture of single, three-way, and double cross hybrids. As inbreeding and mean predictions for the three types of hybrids was already known, corresponding results for inbreeding and mean prediction for the hybrid mixture were ob¬tained with relative ease
Food Autonomy within Food Sovereignty: Evidence from a Structural Model
Food sovereignty as a model to solve food problems is being used in political, economic, and agricultural thought, but academic literature does not offer insight into its impact and the dimension of food autonomy. We have chosen to study Ecuador, given that, in 2008, the country reformed its constitution and adopted the concept of food sovereignty as a right of the Ecuadorian people, being the first country to do so. In this article, we apply the multiple indicators and multiple causes model to uncover scientific findings with the observable data available, and estimate the phenomenon of food sovereignty, which will be called the latent variable. The article aims to determine the main indicators associated with a synthetic index of food sovereignty and one that integrates a measurement model. In order to meet the goal of this research, eight hypotheses are raised, of which four are confirmatory and four are exploratory. The exploratory hypotheses are given because the theoretical foundations contradict themselves in favor of and against the latent variable. The findings of the statistical model relate to inflation, cereal yield, agricultural-value added, prevalence of malnutrition, food export, and food import as causes and indicators that are part of food sovereignty
Profile of Trade Negotiators: Elements for their Characterization
In the area of international trade, the first element to take into account in order to carry out a successful negotiation is the reflection on the relationship between the profile of the entity's negotiator and the culture of the negotiators involved in the process, in order to determine the points of divergence and contact between them. That is why it is essential to determine the set of aspects that characterize the profile of each of the commercial negotiators. Even though in the literature some works can be found that address the elements that must characterize the negotiators, they present a generic approach based fundamentally on the skills that negotiators must possess, but they suffer from an integrating approach that groups aspects such as the formative characteristics and the elements of the individual that condition his performance as a negotiator. This article presents an analysis of the elements that characterize the profile of negotiators and the role played by emotional intelligence in the negotiation process.Universidad Pablo de Olavid

Mathematical Tools as a Way to Design Job Incentive Systems
Efficient and competitive results are essential for the permanence of any organization in the market, therefore, every day it becomes necessary to adopt an integral systemic approach that takes into account all areas of the entity. The proper management of the activities that make up the business logistics, as well as those of the human resources area, constitutes a way to achieve business excellence. The present study was developed in TABACUBA Business Group, and the focus of analysis was the Tobacco Company Torcido Partagás, where a diagnosis was made of both its logistics system and the human resources area, detecting a series of problems that harm the accounts of the company and the Group, having an impact on the product's exports. The general objective of the research is to develop a proposal of incentives that alleviate or eradicate the problems that afflict the company and the Group in general using the benefits of fuzzy logic. Once this incentive proposal is applied, it is expected that the economic results of Partagás and the Group as a whole will improve.
This series of two articles does not attempt to be an exhaustivereview of the origin of corn, its use, its genetic improvement or,even less, its economy. In the first part, a very shallow reviewabout the origin of corn is made, mainly to recognize the work oftwo Mexican professors on the origin of this plant from teocintle. In addition, it is stressed the growing and recent activity in corngermplasm collection, even in places where there is not such awide diversity like the Northwest of México. A review is alsomade of the Creole varieties improved in our country with thegoal of arguing in favor of peasants of low means having access toimproved germplasm with varieties of free pollination andsynthetic varieties. Out of a total of 130 populations of this typecatalogued in México by the INIFAP (Instituto Nacional deInvestigaciones Forestales, AgrÃcilas y Pecuarias), only two dozensare shown here with some of their outstanding characteristics, plus 55 populations improved by public universities, which arevirtually only mentioned. The objective, although somewhathistorical, is to show the readers that in our country, breedingprofessionals have not stopped working and liberating materialsthat in many cases are similar or superior to those of private seedcompanies. This is so that, in face of the imminent entry oftransgenic seeds into México, it is convenient for farmers to knowthat improved seed produced in our country, both in freepollination varieties and in hybrids, have equivalent or superiorcounterparts, and at a price less than half of that of the transgenicseeds.
This article, which is a follow-up to one where maize germplasmcollection and obtention of improved Creole varieties were shown,is presented with the somewhat historic objective of showing thatthe professional improvers of this plant in our country havecontinued to work in the development of corn hybrids of differenttypes: from double to simple crosses, including trilinear hybridsand synthetic varieties. This review about recent hybrids showsthat maize regions in México have not been left unattended, fromthe important irrigation areas in the center, northwest andnortheast, to the south and southeastern regions where rainfedagriculture prevails, not less important than the former. Weinsist in the fact that with the production of new hybrids, thegeneral seed price will tend to be balanced in relation to those ofcommercial companies, and we highlight two relevant problemswith the development of transgenic hybrids: contamination ofCreole varieties and the health of consumers.
In this work alternative methods to carry out bulk and family selection in corn are described. The aim of mass selection is to diminish difference among effects of genetic-environmental interaction between plants and it is proposed to make selection of the best contiguous ears along complete furrow. In the method of combined selection of half siblings families, if detasseling is not applied the derived endogamy of the self-fecundation is not affected, which means an important saving in manpower payment.
ABSTRACT: As genotypic variability in plants depends on two factors: gametic variability that depends on the recombination frequence between two loci (r), and heterozygosis that depends on the amount of intercrossing (c) among the individuals, it is important to quantify their influence. In this paper the second factor (c) for the case of a single locus is studied and a formula is obtained that allows to calculate the degree of heterozygosis in any generation for a given c using that of the first generation. The importance of inducing a given amount of intercrossing in autogamous populations using male sterility is stressed, as well as the limiting value of the degree of heterozygosis that will be obtained in advanced generations.AGROCIENCIA Vol. 4.
