Drift and evolutionary forces: scrutinizing the Newtonian analogy

This article analyzes the view of evolutionary theory as a theory of forces. The analogy with Newtonian mechanics has been challenged due to the alleged mismatch between drift and the other evolutionary forces. Since genetic drift has no direction several authors tried to protect its status as a force: denying its lack of directionality, extending the notion of force and looking for a force in physics which also lacks of direction. I analyse these approaches, and although this strategy finally succeeds, this discussion overlooks the crucial point on the debate between causalists and statisticalists: the causal status of evolutionary theory

Current developments in teaching and research in Operations Management and Technology

[EN] Since the topic of Operations Management and Technology is a key element of the science of management, and, therefore, it is explained in both business and engineering schools, the study of its best teaching methods is completely necessary in order to get the aim of its translation to students. Moreover, the importance of the topic and its scientific nature make necessary to continuously improve in the area of its research methodology. The aim of this paper is to reflect on the teaching and research in Operations Management and Technology in Spain. Additionally, this article serves as an introduction to the papers that make up this special issue.[ES] Dado que la disciplina de Dirección de Operaciones y Tecnología constituye un elemento fundamental en Dirección de Empresas, y por tanto, es enseñada tanto en las Escuelas de Negocios como en las de Ingeniería, el estudio de sus mejores métodos docentes se convierte en una necesidad para alcanzar el objetivo de su enseñanza.
