Periodic homogenization of a pseudo-parabolic equation via a spatial-temporal decomposition

Pseudo-parabolic equations have been used to model unsaturated fluid flow in porous media. In this paper it is shown how a pseudo-parabolic equation can be upscaled when using a spatio-temporal decomposition employed in the Peszyn'ska-Showalter-Yi paper [8]. The spatial-temporal decomposition transforms the pseudo-parabolic equation into a system containing an elliptic partial differential equation and a temporal ordinary differential equation. To strengthen our argument, the pseudo-parabolic equation has been given advection/convection/drift terms. The upscaling is done with the technique of periodic homogenization via two-scale convergence. The well-posedness of the extended pseudo-parabolic equation is shown as well. Weighted hardy operators in complementary morrey spaces

We study the weighted p -> q-boundedness of the multidimensional weighted Hardy-type operators H-omega(alpha) and H-omega(alpha) with radial type weight omega = omega(vertical bar x vertical bar), in the generalized complementary Morrey spaces (C) L-(0)(p,psi) (R-n) defined by an almost increasing function psi = psi(r). We prove a theorem which provides conditions, in terms of some integral inequalities imposed on psi and omega, for such a boundedness. These conditions are sufficient in the general case, but we prove that they are also necessary when the function psi and the weight omega are power functions. We also prove that the spaces (C) L-(0)(p,psi) (Omega) over bounded domains Omega are embedded between weighted Lebesgue space L-p with the weight psi and such a space with the weight psi, perturbed by a logarithmic factor. Two-scale convergence for locally-periodic microstructures and homogenization of plywood structures

The introduced notion of locally-periodic two-scale convergence allows to average a wider range of microstructures, compared to the periodic one. The compactness theorem for the locally-periodic two-scale convergence and the characterisation of the limit for a sequence bounded in $H^1(\Omega)$ are proven. The underlying analysis comprises the approximation of functions, which periodicity with respect to the fast variable depends on the slow variable, by locally-periodic functions, periodic in subdomains smaller than the considered domain, but larger than the size of microscopic structures. The developed theory is applied to derive macroscopic equations for a linear elasticity problem defined in domains with plywood structures.Comment: 22 pages, 4 figure

Hvordan lage markedskommunikasjon og skape kjennskap rundt livets nest største investering for kvinner?

I denne bacheloroppgaven har vi tatt for oss temaet merkevarebygging. Vi har valgt å skrive om dette for å få mer kunnskap og en bredere forståelse på feltet. Vi ønsket å få et innblikk i hva kvinner mente om merkevaren Mercedes-Benz og en retning for hvordan merkekunnskap de kunne ha til merkevaren. Vår problemstilling er som følger: “Har kvinner merkekjennskap til merkevaren Mercedes- Benz?” I innledning begrunner vi valget av tema, samt forutsetninger og avgrensninger til oppgaven og oppgavens struktur. Oppgaven er avgrenset til Norge og har et fokus på kvinner og merkevaren Mercedes-Benz. Gjennom metodetriangulering har vi forsøkt å på best mulig måte sette svar på vår problemstilling, hvor analysen er forankret med teori innen merkevarebygging. Ut fra konklusjon av analysene har vi utformet en kommunikasjonsstrategi rettet mot en definert målgruppe

Antibiotika-indusert frigjøring av lipopolysakkarid hos Escherichia coli

Ifølge Verdens helseorganisasjon (WHO) er sepsis en av de største helseutfordringene i vår tid. Antibiotika-indusert frigjøring av lipopolysakkarid (LPS) fra yttermembranen til Gram-negative bakterier er medvirkende til den høye dødeligheten ved sepsis. Mengden LPS som frigjøres kan være avhengig av klassen av antibiotika. Denne studien undersøkte mengden frigjort LPS ved å eksponere E. coli for tolv antibiotika fra åtte ulike klasser. Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) assay ble brukt for å kvantifisere mengden frigjort LPS fra løsninger med minimum-inhibitory concentrations og standard lab-konsentrasjoner av antibiotika. Resultatene viste at kloramfenikol, spektinomycin, tetrasyklin, og zeocin ga høyere verdier frigjort LPS enn ubehandlet løsning, og burde derfor brukes med forsiktighet i behandling av sepsis. Studien viste ingen klar sammenheng mellom generell virkningsmekanisme og frigjøring av LPS. LPS-frigjøring ser i stedet ut til å være knyttet opp til antibiotikaklasse og deres spesifikke virkningsmekanismer. &nbsp

We investigate a particular form of the classical “crossed ladders” problem, finding many parametrized solutions, some polynomial, and some involving Fibonacci and Lucas sequences.
