Matrix metalloproteinase-8 in early diagnostics of generalized periodontitis
Abstract
The significant prevalence of periodontal diseases on the background of its tendency to increase makes the issue of search for early diagnostic methods and rational preventive therapeutic choice in generalized periodontitis to be topical.
Purpose of the article is to determine the prospects for matrix metalloproteinase-8 (MMP-8) using for early diagnosis of generalized periodontitis according to the modern literature analysis over the past two years. The review presents data on the biological properties of MMP-8, its role in the processes of collagen destruction and also shows the results of clinical and experimental studies devoted to clarifying the role of MMP-8 in the pathogenesis of generalized periodontitis. It is noted that this enzyme content is indicative of the gums inflammatory process transformation to the alveolar bone destruction; therefore it can be considered as the prognostic marker for generalized periodontitis, even in the absence of pronounced clinical symptoms. Moreover, the increase in MMP-8 activity indicates the aggressive form of the disease requiring specific treatment. Particular attention is given to MMP-8 as the biochemical marker describing the features of generalized periodontitis course, in particular on the background of comorbid diseases such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and in smokers. The relationship between MMP-8 level and other biochemical markers (interleukins, immunoglobulins, prostaglandins) is described in inflammatory-dystrophic lesions of the periodontal tissues. The comparative evaluation of the MMP-8 modern methods of determination effectiveness in various biological fluids has been carried out. Prospects and peculiarities of MMP-8 using in diagnostics and treatment for peri-implantitis, which are similar in pathogenesis to periodontitis, have been defined.
Conclusions. It is worthwhile conducting the further studies of the MMP-8 possible use not only for the early diagnosis of generalized periodontitis, but also for its character prediction in order to develop the personal approach to patient care. Also, further studies in this direction will give an opportunity to move away from ambiguity and inconsistency in literature data and confirm the clinical effectiveness of MMP-8 for practical dentistry
Second-order corrections to noncommutative spacetime inflation
We investigate how the uncertainty of noncommutative spacetime affects on
inflation. For this purpose, the noncommutative parameter is taken to
be a zeroth order slow-roll parameter. We calculate the noncommutative power
spectrum up to second order using the slow-roll expansion. We find corrections
arisen from a change of the pivot scale and the presence of a variable
noncommutative parameter, when comparing with the commutative power spectrum.
The power-law inflation is chosen to obtain explicit forms for the power
spectrum, spectral index, and running spectral index. In cases of the power
spectrum and spectral index, the noncommutative effect of higher-order
corrections compensates for a loss of higher-order corrections in the
commutative case. However, for the running spectral index, all higher-order
corrections to the commutative case always provide negative spectral indexes,
which could explain the recent WMAP data.Comment: 15 pages, no figure, version published in PR
Cosmic Calibration: Constraints from the Matter Power Spectrum and the Cosmic Microwave Background
Several cosmological measurements have attained significant levels of
maturity and accuracy over the last decade. Continuing this trend, future
observations promise measurements of the statistics of the cosmic mass
distribution at an accuracy level of one percent out to spatial scales with
k~10 h/Mpc and even smaller, entering highly nonlinear regimes of gravitational
instability. In order to interpret these observations and extract useful
cosmological information from them, such as the equation of state of dark
energy, very costly high precision, multi-physics simulations must be
performed. We have recently implemented a new statistical framework with the
aim of obtaining accurate parameter constraints from combining observations
with a limited number of simulations. The key idea is the replacement of the
full simulator by a fast emulator with controlled error bounds. In this paper,
we provide a detailed description of the methodology and extend the framework
to include joint analysis of cosmic microwave background and large scale
structure measurements. Our framework is especially well-suited for upcoming
large scale structure probes of dark energy such as baryon acoustic
oscillations and, especially, weak lensing, where percent level accuracy on
nonlinear scales is needed.Comment: 15 pages, 14 figure
EXPERT AND CLINICAL ASSESSMENT OF DEFICIENCIES IN PROVIDING CARE TO PATIENTS WITH TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY AND HEMORRHAGIC STROKE DUE TO THE RUPTURE OF CEREBRAL ANEURYSM
Introduction. The relevance of conducting this study is determined by the necessity to create organizational conditions and optimize the clinical-diagnostic aspect of medical care for patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and acute stroke. This aims to improve patients' quality of life by enhancing the effectiveness of medical care provision in Ukraine. This improvement is based on identifying the causes and analyzing deficiencies in medical care for these conditions.
The aim of the research is to investigate the specificity of deficiencies in providing medical care to patients with isolated traumatic brain injury and acute hemorrhagic stroke due to the rupture of cerebral arterial aneurysms based on a retrospective analysis of medical documentation, as well as the results of patient treatment in cases of discrepancies between clinical and forensic diagnoses concerning the primary, concomitant diseases, and their complications.
Materials and methods. Clinical assessment of the results of providing care to patients with traumatic brain injury and stroke was conducted through a retrospective analysis of medical documentation of patients who were hospitalized with these pathologies. The applied methods include clinical and laboratory investigations of homeostasis and metabolism parameters, and instrumental techniques.
Results. In the identified influence of the timing of the operation (within the first few days) and the breakthrough of blood in the subarachnoid space of the brain, including with intracranial hemorrhage as a result of a re-rupture of a cerebral arterial aneurysm, on the risk of lethal outcomes of surgical treatment, a rationale for searching ways to optimize therapeutic tactics in this category of patients was provided. This includes identifying defects and shortcomings in the organizational aspect of medical care.
Conclusions. Based on the analysis and identification of the most informative factors influencing the results of surgical treatment of cerebral aneurysms, a prediction system has been developed that allows calculating the probability of its outcome. The application of the forecast is advisable to consider in the prevention and timely detection of possible deficiencies in providing medical care to patients with stroke
Bianchi I Quantum cosmology in the Bergmann-Wagoner theory
The Wheeler-DeWitt equation is considered in the context of generalized
scalar-tensor theories of gravitation for Bianchi type I cosmology. Exact
solutions are found for two selfinteracting potentials and arbitary coupling
function. The WKB wavefunctions are obtained and a family of solutions
satisfying the Hawking-Page regularity conditions of wormholes are found.Comment: 12 pages, Latex fil
Structure and stability of the Lukash plane-wave spacetime
We study the vacuum, plane-wave Bianchi spacetimes described by
the Lukash metric. Combining covariant with orthonormal frame techniques, we
describe these models in terms of their irreducible kinematical and geometrical
quantities. This covariant description is used to study analytically the
response of the Lukash spacetime to linear perturbations. We find that the
stability of the vacuum solution depends crucially on the background shear
anisotropy. The stronger the deviation from the Hubble expansion, the more
likely the overall linear instability of the model. Our analysis addresses
rotational, shear and Weyl curvature perturbations and identifies conditions
sufficient for the linear growth of these distortions.Comment: Revised version, references added. To appear in Class. Quantum Gra
