Acoustic characteristics of fiberglass-lined circular ducts

Fiberglass lined circular ducts are circular ducts with an outer spiral metal shell. They are either dual-wall or single-wall. They have been acoustically treated and are intended to be used in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) duct systems to reduce the amount of sound that is generated by the operation of the components of the system; To quantify the amount of the sound energy that can be attenuated by a given fiberglass lined circular duct, its acoustical performance has to be determined. Acoustical performance of lined ducts can be experimentally determined in an acoustical laboratory under controlled conditions. These results tend to be more accurate and reliable than those obtained by theoretical equations. HVAC designers need this performance data based on actual test results in order to select the appropriate lined duct for solving noise problems in air handling systems; The objective of the thesis is to provide the techniques and procedures for measuring the insertion loss (with and without airflow) of fiberglass lined circular ducts. Regression analyses were conducted on the measured insertion loss data in order to provide regression equations that predict the performance of fiberglass lined circular ducts. Insertion loss tables were generated using these regression equations. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)

Neste artigo procuro discutir as relações entre educação, neste caso particular entre educação de adultos, e participação, enquanto caminhos e formas de cidadania. Parto do pressuposto de que a participação e a cidadania estão inter-relacionadas: os indivíduos só são cidadãos de pleno direito se tiverem possibilidades de participar na res publica. Abordo igualmente a Investigação Participativa enquanto metodologia de desenvolvimento do processo de participação. De seguida, apresento quatro experiências relacionadas com o Orçamento Participativo adoptado na cidade de Sevilha. O final deste artigo inclui algumas conclusões que destacam as tensões e as contradições que emergem dessas experiências

Development of an Inventory Management Strategy to Determine Stock Levels and Service Levels for COTECMAR

MBA Professional ReportThe main objective of this research is to determine the best approach for managing inventory at COTECMAR, a shipyard in the Colombian Navy. The distinct nature of demand for items required in building and repair of ships, the uncertainty surrounding the repair needs, and the broad range of customers being served make managing inventory at a shipyard uniquely challenging. The project started with a review of selected inventory management strategies and theories. Thereafter, we identified a small sample of items, collected demand data for these items, and analyzed that data to better understand the drivers of demand. We concluded that (1) the items needed in shipbuilding and other special projects are dependent demand items that are better managed through Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) approach, and (2) the items needed in repairs are independent demand items better managed through the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) approach. Accordingly, we collected and analyzed additional data, such as cost factors, to perform the necessary EOQ and service level calculations for selected items to illustrate the methodology we propose in this research. La última parte está dedicada a discutir sobre la actualidad del pensamiento de Freire en relación a cuestiones como la ciudadanía y la Justicia Social.
