Los sucesos de Chile chico, 1917-1918. Un episodio del poblamiento de Aisén

    Get PDF

    Malware engineering for dummies

Malicious software has become a major threat to modern society. It affects to all sectors in the industry all over the world. The impact can vary being from an economic point of view to privacy invasion or to damage the targeted system. Being able to understand what a malware does can be used for detection and future prevention. For it, is crucial to train our future professionals. Analyzing malware requires deep knowledge of Operating Systems internal design and tools manipulation. All this knowledge was acquired and demonstrated in practice along the project. This project develops three malware samples and provides their correspondent technical reverse engineer analysis. This material has been created with the goal of being used as teaching resource at the laboratories of the Master in Cybersecurity at the University Carlos III of Madrid. The subject which this material is done for is named Malware analysis and engineering. Malware analysis is a really specific field with a limited resource access of information for learning. This projects tries to make that barrier narrower by proving a laboratory exercise for master students. To keep the standards of the education quality policy of the university, this laboratory exercise is developed for the latest Microsoft Windows platform. The books, articles and tutorials followed during project development are mentioned in the document and stablished as reliable sources. The followed methodology with all previously explained , ensures to provide nowadays technology and a high level technical skill for a high quality education.Ingeniería Informátic

Seismic site classification from the horizontal-to-vertical response spectral ratios: use of the Spanish strong-motion database

    Get PDF
Normally, the average of the horizontal-to-vertical (H/V) ratios of the 5% damped response spectra of ground motions is used to classify the site of strong-motion stations. In these cases, only the three-orthogonal as-recorded acceleration components are used in the analysis, and all the vector compositions that can generate a different response for each period oscillator are excluded. In this study, the Spanish strong-motion database was used to classify the sites of accelerometric stations based on the predominant periods through the average horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratios (HVSR) of recorded ground motions. Moreover, the directionality effects using the vector composition of the horizontal components of ground motions were also considered in the estimations of H/V ratios. This consideration is a relevant novelty compared to the traditional H/V ratios methods. Only earthquakes with magnitudes above 3.5 and hypocentral distances below 200 km were selected, which resulted in 692 ground-motion records, corresponding to 86 stations, from events in the period between 1993 and 2017. After the analysis, a predominant-period site classification was assigned to each station. On the whole, the obtained mean and standard deviation values of the spectral ratios are comparable to those shown by other researchers. Therefore, the advantages of the proposed procedure, which takes the directionality effects into account, can be summarized as follows: (a) The obtained information is richer and gives enables more sophisticated and realistic analyses on the basis of percentiles and (b) it is easier to detect anomalous stations, sites, and/or accelerograms. Moreover, the method eliminates the effect of directionality as a contributor to epistemic uncertainty.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

dcor: Distance correlation and energy statistics in Python

This article presents dcor, an open-source Python package dedicated to distance correlation and other statistics related to energy distance. These energy statistics include distances between distributions and the associated tests for homogeneity and independence. Some of the most efficient algorithms for the estimation of these measures have been implemented relying on optimization techniques such as vectorization, compilation, and parallelization. The performance of these estimators is evaluated by comparison with alternative implementations in other packages. The package is also designed to be compatible with the packages conforming the scientific Python ecosystem. With that purpose in mind, dcor is an early adopter of the Python array API standard.PID2019-106827GB-I00, PID2019-106827GB-I0

Conventional Industrial Robotics Applied to the Process of Tomato Grafting Using the Splicing Technique

    Get PDF
Horticultural grafting is routinely performed manually, demanding a high degree of concentration and requiring operators to withstand extreme humidity and temperature conditions. This article presents the results derived from adapting the splicing technique for tomato grafting, characterized by the coordinated work of two conventional anthropomorphic industrial robots with the support of low-cost passive auxiliary units for the transportation, handling, and conditioning of the seedlings. This work provides a new approach to improve the efficiency of tomato grafting. Six test rates were analyzed, which allowed the system to be evaluated across 900 grafted units, with gradual increases in the speed of robots work, operating from 80 grafts/hour to over 300 grafts/hour. The results obtained show that a higher number of grafts per hour than the number manually performed by skilled workers could be reached easily, with success rates of approximately 90% for working speeds around 210–240 grafts/hour

Eficiencia Bancaria en Chile: un Enfoque de Frontera de Beneficios

    Get PDF
This paper characterizes the evolution of the efficiency X in the Chilean banking industry over 1987 to 2007, based on a profit frontier approach. Our results suggest that over this period the Chilean banking sector has attained just a 15% over its maximum profits. This inefficiency basically arises from a technical source rather than an assignative one, and mainly affects domestic and small banks. Nevertheless, the level of efficiency X of the industry as a whole has dramatically improved since the late 1990’s, which is consistent with important economic, technological and regulatory transformations.
