    With the objective of knowing the microflora present in ballast water in the Santa Marta bay, samples were realized in 34 ships, between January and September of 2006. Stephanopyxis niponnica was found in two coal ships coming from the United States. The presence of this species of biogeographic distribution for cold waters, demonstrates the transport and potential introduction of exotic species to the region of Santa Marta via ballast water.Con el objetivo de conocer la microflora presente en las aguas de lastre de la bahía de Santa Marta se realizaron muestreos en 34 buques, de enero a septiembre de 2006. Se encontró la presencia de Stephanopyxis niponnica en dos buques carboneros provenientes de los Estados Unidos.     Theory of strong coupling between quantum emitters and propagating surface plasmons

    Under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License 3.0 (CC-BY).Here we present the theoretical foundation of the strong coupling phenomenon between quantum emitters and propagating surface plasmons observed in two-dimensional metal surfaces. For that purpose, we develop a quantum framework that accounts for the coherent coupling between emitters and surface plasmons and incorporates the presence of dissipation and dephasing. Our formalism is able to reveal the key physical mechanisms that explain the reported phenomenology and also determine the physical parameters that optimize the strong coupling.     Evaluation of soybean meal as protein source for Argyrosomus Regius (Asso, 1801) (Sciaenidae)

    [EN] The meagre (Argyrosomus regius) is a carnivorous fish which requires diets with higher protein content, causing an increment in diets cost. A way to diminish this cost is to use vegetable meals like soybean meal (SB). So the aim of this trial was to determine the optimum inclusion level of defatted soybean meal in experimental diets for this species. 800 fishes (165 g) were distributed in 8 tanks, two replicates per treatment. Four isoproteic (50% CP) and isolipidic (17% Cl) diets were formulated with four levels of soybean meal inclusion, 0, 15, 30 and 45%. The trial lasted 107 days. Meagre fed diets 15 and 30% obtained the highest final weight. There were no significant differences among treatments in the feed conversion rate (FCR) and the protein efficiency (PER). According to the quadratic regression, the optimum SB inclusion to maximize thermal growth coefficient (TGC) was 26.4% and for FCR was 27.6%. No significant differences were observed in energy, protein and amino acid retention among diets.     Nutritional value of four pest animals to be used in feeding monogastric organisms

    [ES] Las muestras de animales plagas fueron colectadas, secadas y molidas. Estas fueron analizadas para determinar su contenido en proteína, cenizas y aminoácidos. Los análisis bromatológicos mostraron que Achatina fulica y Pieris brassica, contienen más proteína bruta, (PB) (779.2 y 812.2 g/kg) en comparación a Phyllophaga spp. y Spodoptera frugierda (432. 5 y 445.7 g/ kg). Comparando el perfil de aminoácidos, A. fulica y P. brassica obtuvieron los niveles más altos en la mayoría de los amino ácidos esenciales (AAE) que la torta de soya y en el caso de A. fulica, éste exhibió valores más altos que la harina de pescado en arginina, cisteina, glicina, serina y tirosina. Observando la relación de AAE/AANE (amino ácidos no esenciales) en las harinas, sólo S. frugiperda presentó valores similares a la harina de pescado (0.85). Todas las harinas de animales plagas presentaron una reducción en la cuantificación de amino ácidos en relación con los valores de PB obtenidos por el método de Kjeldahl, esta reducción se encontraba entre 28.6 y 38.0%. Esta disminución podría deberse a la combinación entre la proteína y la quitina que se encuentran en el cuerpo de los insectos. A pesar de esta reducción la cuantificación de amino ácidos de los animales plagas podría ser una buena alternativa para su uso en la alimentación de monogástricos, especialmente para peces y crustáceos.[EN] The pest samples were collected, dried, and grounded. They were analysed to determinate contain of protein, energy, ashes and amino acids. The bromatological analysis showed that Achatina fulica and Pieris brassica, obtained a higher amount of crude protein (CP) (779.2 and 812.2 g/kg) in comparison to Phyllophaga spp. and Spodoptera frugiperda (432.5 and 455.7 g/kg). Comparing the amino acids profile, A. fulica and P. brassica obtained higher values in most of the essential amino acids (EAA) than soybean meal, and A. fulica exhibited even higher values than fish meal (FM) in Arginine, Cysteine, Glycine, Serine, and Tyrosine. Observing the relation of EAA/NEEA (no essential amino acids) in all the meals only S. frugiperda presented a similar value to fish meal (0.85). All the pest meals presented a reduction in the amino acids quantification in comparison to the CP values obtained by the Kjeldahl method, with reduction between 28.6 through 38.0%. This diminution could be due to the linkage of the protein to the chitin content of the insect body.     Contex-aware gestures for mixed-initiative text editings UIs

Concretely, we study Computer Assisted Transcription of Text Images (CATTI), a handwriting transcription system that follows a corrective feedback paradigm, where both the user and the system collaborate efficiently to produce a high-quality text transcription. CATTI-like applications demand fast and accurate gesture recognition, for which we observed that current gesture recognizers are not adequate enough. In response to this need we developed MinGestures, a parametric context-aware gesture recognizer. Our contributions include a number of stroke features for disambiguating copy-mark gestures from handwritten text, plus the integration of these gestures in a CATTI application. It becomes finally possible to create highly interactive stroke-based text-editing interfaces, without worrying to verify the user intent on-screen. We performed a formal evaluation with 22 e-pen users and 32 mouse users using a gesture vocabulary of 10 symbols. MinGestures achieved an outstanding accuracy (<1% error rate) with very high performance (<1 ms of recognition time). We then integrated MinGestures in a CATTI prototype and tested the performance of the interactive handwriting system when it is driven by gestures. Our results show that using gestures in interactive handwriting applications is both advantageous and convenient when gestures are simple but context-aware.     Evidence of strong effects of the 11Be halo structure on reaction processes at energies around the Coulomb barrier

    The collision induced by the three Beryllium isotopes, 9,10,11Be, on 64Zn target were investigated at Ec.m. ¿ 1.4 the Coulomb barrier. Elastic scattering angular distributions were measured for the 9,10Be collisions whereas, in the 11Be case the quasielastic scattering angular distribution was obtained. A strong damping of the quasielastic cross-section was observed in the 11Be case, especially in the angular range around the Coulomb-nuclear interference peak. In this latter case a large total-reaction cross-section is found, more than a factor of two larger than the ones extracted in the reactions induced by the non-halo Beryllium isotopes. A large contribution to the total-reaction cross-section in the 11Be case could be attributed to transfer and/or break-up events

The suppression of the Coulomb-nuclear interference, observed in the 11Be scattering case with respect to the 10Be, has been interpreted as due to a long range absorption owing to the coupling with the break-up (Coulomb and nuclear) channels.     Influence of synthetic method on the properties of La0.5Ba0.5FeO3 SOFC cathode

Given that several of the challenges hindering SOFC technology are consequence of the high operation temperature (about 1000ºC) [1,2], an important goal is to reduce it to 600-800ºC. To minimize this effect new perovskite-type mixed ionic-electronic conducting oxides have been widely studied as promising IT-SOFC cathodes. Among them, iron perovskites (LSF) seem to be good candidates mainly for their appropriate thermal expansion match with YSZ electrolytes and their good catalytic activity for the oxygen reduction [3,4]. The properties of these compounds and thus their cell performance depends on several factors: the right choice of A and B elements, the amount of doping cations (A1-xAx) and some structural parameters such as the tolerance factor [5], the average size of the A-site cations () and the A cation size disorder (σ2(rA)). Studies on the influence of the hole-doping (x) in the A-site of LSF perovskites have shown good cathode performances in compounds with intermediate doping levels [6]. The change of and σ2(rA) indicate that better performances are observed for highest and lowest σ2(rA) [7]. External parameters, such as the synthetic method, are also important factors that influence the final properties [8]. In this sense it has been observed that porosity, grain size and morphology of the compounds strongly depend on the sample preparation techniques. In this research, a La0.5Ba0.5FeO3 perovskite has been synthesized by two different methods (ceramic and glycine-nitrate routes) in order to study the synthetic method influence on the properties of this compound as IT-SOFC cathode material. This composition has been chosen due to its intermediate hole doping level (0.5) and high average size of the A-site cations ( = 1.48 Å, when rA are standard 12-coordinate ionic radii), these parameters, according with previous studies should show interesting properties for its use as SOFC cathode. It has been observed that the two La0.5Ba0.5FeO3 compounds show different room temperature crystal structure depending on the synthesis route. The sample obtained by the ceramic method has higher oxygen vacancy content, but in the other hand the SEM micrographs show that glycine-nitrate process leads to a compound with porous structure and particles with nanometric grain sizes. At 700 or 800ºC the electrical conductivity of both samples is similar but the sample obtained by glycine-nitrate route shows better electrochemical performance. The ceramic sample has lower adherence than the glycine counterpart and this derivates in higher values of polarization resistance. It is believed that this is a consequence of the heterogenous morphology of this sample. Therefore, it seems that the glycine-nitrate synthetic method is a more appropriate technique for preparing perovskite cathodes

    Conversion of aqueous ethanol/acetaldehyde mixtures into 1,3-butadiene over a mesostructured Ta-SBA-15 catalyst: Effect of reaction conditions and kinetic modelling

    This paper studies key issues for the design of industrial ethanol to 1,3-butadiene two-step processes, focusing on the second catalytic reaction step, for which a Ta-SBA-15 catalyst was chosen as a representative of the new generation of two-step catalysts. The important practical aspects studied were: i) the effect of operating conditions and the presence of impurities (water) in the ethanol feedstock on the performance of the catalyst, ii) stability and regeneration of the catalyst, and iii) the development of a kinetic model that can be used as a tool for designing the industrial process. The results showed that there are large non-linear interacting effects between the reaction conditions (temperature, space velocity and ethanol/acetaldehyde mole ratio) which must be carefully selected to optimize the catalyst performance. When shifting from an anhydrous to an aqueous ethanol/acetaldehyde feed (7.5 wt% water), catalyst performance at high temperature barely changed while at low temperature, conversion of ethanol and acetaldehyde decreased. Water in the feed largely increased the stability of Ta-SBA-15 catalyst. Finally, a kinetic model of a fresh catalyst was developed, whose novelty lies in the use of kinetic equations that account for the effect of water in the feed on the catalyst performance.Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad CTQ2015-71427-
