Inequivalent classes of closed three-level systems

We show here that the Λ\Lambda and V configurations of three-level atomic systems, while they have recently been shown to be equivalent for many important physical quantities when driven with classical fields [M. B. Plenio, Phys. Rev. A \textbf{62}, 015802 (2000)], are no longer equivalent when coupled via a quantum field. We analyze the physical origin of such behavior and show how the equivalence between these two configurations emerges in the semiclassical limit.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure. The Being in Becoming or the Becoming-Man of the Son of God: Rahner and the Enunciation of the Logos in Becoming

If discourse analysis fails to account for the infinite realities of the divine Logos this would not prevent us from trying to discover within the limits of the analogy that syntactic operations could correspond to such characteristics of the enunciation of the divine Logos and its self-communication in the perspectives of Karl Rahner and Joseph Moingt After all it will be in the operations of a kind of theological syntax that we will be able to search for such grammar because these operations undoubtedly assume that theology points to a discourse and consequently to the existence of a theological language A grammar of relations evokes and therefore announces The Being in becoming revealing a God who speaks and who would not speak through the opacity of Creation if he did not speak before in Himself not to Himself but to others in Himself a true dialogical Logo

Spiral structure in the outer galactic disk, I: the third galactic quadrant

    Get PDF
We combine optical and radio observations to trace the spiral structure in the third quadrant of the Milky Way. The optical observations consist of a large sample of young open clusters and associations, whereas the radio observations consist of a survey of nearby and distant clouds observed in CO. Both the optical and radio samples are the largest ones thus far presented in the literature. We use this unique material to analyze the behavior of interstellar extinction and to trace the detailed structure of the third Galactic quadrant (TGQ).We find that the outer (Cygnus) grand design spiral arm is traced by stellar and CO components, while the Perseus arm is traced solely by CO and is possibly being disrupted by the crossing of the Local (Orion) arm. The Local arm is traced by CO and young stars toward l ¼ 240 and extends for over 8 kpc along the line of sight reaching the outer arm. Finally, we characterize the Galactic warp and compare the geometries implied by the young stellar and CO components.Fil: Vazquez, Ruben Angel. Universidad Nacional de La Plata. El proceso de afrontamiento en el contexto de cambio organizacional

    Get PDF
This article systematizes an innovative empirical framework that shows how the transformative process of human coping strategies offers an alternative way to understand the contemporary relations established between individuals and contexts of organizational change. Based on the positive psychology movement, this empirical-qualitative study uses in-depth interviews to professionals, who worked for companies acquired by an international financial institution, for which they worked in the Brazilian market. Through a content analysis, researchers interpreted all data. As a result of this research, the article shows how individual employees transform their protection factors (coping and buffer) through defense mechanisms in managing organizational change imposed in the workplace. This study contributes to the fields of organizational psychology and health psychology, as it delves into the processes through which individual and contextual elements can protect workers under organizationally adverse conditions that can affect them negatively. Keywords: Coping strategies, defense mechanisms, organizational change, qualitative research, positive psychology.

Vehicle Trajectory Prediction based on LSTM Recurrent Neural Networks

Funding Information: This work was funded by Fundac¸ão para a Ciência e Tecnologia, under the projects InfoCent-IoT (PTDC/EEI-TEL/30433/2017), CoSHARE (PTDC/EEI-TEL/30709/2017), and Grant UIDB/50008/2020.This work presents an effective tool to predict the future trajectories of vehicles when its current and previous locations are known. We propose a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) prediction scheme due to its adequacy to learn from sequential data. To fully learn the vehicles' mobility patterns, during the training process we use a dataset that contains real traces of 442 taxis running in the city of Porto, Portugal, during a full year. From experimental results, we observe that the prediction process is improved when more information about prior vehicle mobility is available. Moreover, the computation time is evaluated for a distinct number of prior locations considered in the prediction process. The results exhibit a prediction performance higher than 89%, showing the effectiveness of the proposed LSTM network.authorsversionpublishe

The Impact of Bowman Creek on the Schoharie River

    Get PDF
The Schoharie Creek runs from the Catskill Mountains to the Mohawk River. The Creek was first settled by the Dutch in 1710, but at that time it was called the Schoharie River1. The Bowman Creek runs into the Schoharie Creek in Duanesburg, New York. To see how Bowman Creek affects the Schoharie Creek’s water, the pH, alkalinity and various ion concentrations were recorded. The values for upstream of Bowman Creek (UBC), downstream of Bow- man Creek (DBC) and Bowman Creek (BC) were compared. These characteristics of the water affect the wildlife that live in the Schoharie Creek. The Creek sup- ports Brown Trout, and Smallmouth Bass. It also a drinking water source for many land animals. Therefore, the water from both of these Creeks were compared to tap water from Union College, which has to meet EPA regulations.https://digitalworks.union.edu/waterprojectposters/1002/thumbnail.jp
