Investment Timing and Social Welfare under Feed-in Tariff Contract
This paper presents a novel model to analyze the effects on the investment timing and social
welfare of three feed-in tariffs (FIT) within an oligopolistic market structure. The FIT
contracts are the fixed price, the fixed premium, and the minimum price guarantee. The model
allows the identification of the optimal time to deploy a renewable energy project and the
value of the tariff that maximizes the social welfare for each FIT design. These optimal tariffs
generate the same investment timing and the same social welfare
Feed-in tariff contract schemes and regulatory uncertainty
This paper presents a novel analysis of two feed-in tariffs (FIT) under market and regulatory uncertainty, namely a sliding premium with cap and floor and a minimum price guarantee. Regulatory uncertainty is modeled with a Poisson process, whereby a jump event may reduce the tariff before the signature of the contract. Using a semi-analytical real options framework, we derive the project value, the optimal investment threshold, and the value of the investment opportunity for these schemes. Taking into consideration the optimal investment threshold, we also compare the two aforementioned FITs with the fixed-price FIT and the fixed-premium FIT, which are policy schemes that have been extensively studied in the literature. Our results show that increasing the likelihood of a jump event lowers the investment threshold for all the schemes; moreover, the investment threshold also decreases when the tariff reduction increases. We also compare the four schemes in terms of the corresponding optimal investment thresholds. For example, we find that the investment threshold of the sliding premium is lower than the minimum price guarantee. This result suggests that the first regime is a better policy than the latter because it accelerates the investment while avoiding excessive earnings for producers or excessive payments for consumers.- This work was supported by a PhD scholarship provided by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) through the MIT Portugal program under project SFRH/BD/52086/2013, and was supported by national funds through FCT with references UIDB/50021/2020, UIDB/03182/2020, CEMAT -UIDB/04621/2020, and UIDP/04621/2020. Feed-in tariffs with minimum price guarantees and regulatory uncertainty
The feed-in tariff (FIT) program is a popular policy for incentivizing new renewable energy projects because it establishes a long-term contract with renewable energy investors. This paper presents a novel model to analyze a FIT contract with a minimum price guarantee (i.e., a price-floor regime) from an investor's perspective. The results show that a perpetual guarantee only induces investment for prices below the price floor when offering a risk-free investment opportunity. In contrast, the finite guarantee may induce investment even when the revenue from the guarantee is lower than the investment cost. When an investor faces a scenario with regulatory uncertainty, a higher and more likely reduction in the price floor induces earlier investment. For all cases, investors postpone an investment decision when market conditions present a higher price volatility. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. The Contribution of Online Social Networks for Drug Abuse Treatment Referral: a Pilot Study
Background: The consumption of psychoactive drugs is growing in Brazil, as well as the access of social networks. This study is a preliminary short report about the contribution of online social networks for drug abuse treatment. The study aimed to evaluate the role of an online social network to engage psychoactive drug users in treatment. Methods: A descriptive study was undertaken from July to September 2015. The study population were psychoactive drugs users who accessed voluntarily the webpage “Stay Free of Drugs” (SFD) from the social network Facebook. Results: A total of 25 psychoactive drug users were enrolled in the study, and 16 (64%) accessed a healthcare centre seeking treatment. The average from the users’ online contact to their visit to the healthcare centre was 8.4 days. Half of the participants were exclusive alcohol users and accessed the webpage at night (65%). Conclusions: The use of a social network showed a potential importance in referring drug users to treatment, also acting as health education strategy
Conhecimento dos pediatras sobre doença celíaca: estudo piloto
In spite of having been demonstrated that the celiac sprue is a more frequent condition than imagined in the past, it stillhappens delay between the beginning of the symptoms and the accomplishment of the diagnosis. A reason for this fact isrepresented by the professionals’ of health failure in recognizing the several clinical manifestations of the celiac sprue and inknowing which the exams adapted for the diagnosis. This study was accomplished seeking to evaluate the pediatricians’knowledge on the celiac sprue. Data was obtained of questionnaire, distributed during X National Congress of Pediatrics, inthe period of 12 to June 14, 2008, in Salvador, Bahia. It were analyzed 63 questionnaires. The signs and more pointed symptomsthan they would take them to suspect of celiac sprue they were: chronic diarrhea (62), low weight (58), abdominal distention(57), low stature (49) and abdominal pain (39). Relatives of first degree carriers (48), deficiency of IgA (28) and diabetes mellitustype 1 (27) they were the factors of risks more indicated by the pediatricians. In relation to the manifestations extragastrointestinais, they were marked with more frequency anemia (46), delayed puberty (40), hipoplasia of the dental enamel(30), atopic dermatitis (28) and herpetiforme dermatitis (18). Of the laboratory tests, the more requested was intestinal biopsy(44), anti-gliadin (47), anti-endomysium (42) and anti-transglutaminase antibodies (26). Gluten was aimed by most (98%) asthe food that should be excluded of the diet and 84% of the participants answered that the diet should be proceeded for alifetime. The marked victuals that should be excluded of the diet they were wheat (61), rye (54), barley (51) and oat (44). Theassociated complications the celiac sprue mentioned with more frequency was: low stature (59), anemia (51) and osteopenia(24). The presented data demonstrated that the pediatricians knew how to recognize the classic form of the celiac sprue, but theneed still exists of to enlarge and to modernize the those professionals’ of health knowledge in celiac sprue, above all in relationto the atipic forms.
Intellectual capital of Technology-Based Incubators
The objective of this work is to evaluate the associations between the intellectual capital of technology-based incubators in the sustainability of incubated companies located in Portugal. For this purpose, the methodological strategy employed was the survey, and to test the hypotheses the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling PLS-SEM method was applied from a sample of 82 incubated company managers. The results show that the intellectual capital of the incubator company has a direct and positive relationship with the innovative capacity, satisfaction, and sustainability of the incubated company. In turn, the incubated company’s innovative capacity has a direct and positive impact on sustainability itself. In addition, both the sustainability of the incubated company and its levels of satisfaction with the incubated company has a positive and direct impact on its competitive success. The management implications include the perception that the greater the effort to improve the human capital, structural capital, and relational capital of the incubated companies, the better will be the results achieved in supporting companies, helping start-ups develop sustainably and competitively in the market.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
