Diamagnetism around the Meissner transition in a homogeneous cuprate single crystal

The in-plane diamagnetism around the Meissner transition was measured in a Tl$_2$Ba$_2$Ca$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{10}$ single crystal of high chemical and structural quality, which minimizes the inhomogeneity and disorder rounding effects on the magnetization. When analyzed quantitatively and consistently above and below the transition in terms of the Ginzburg-Landau (GL) approach with fluctuations of Cooper pairs and vortices, these data provide a further confirmation that the observed Meissner transition is a conventional GL superconducting transition in a homogeneous layered superconductor.Comment: 5 pages, including 3 figure

Anomalous precursor diamagnetism at low reduced magnetic fields and the role of Tc inhomogeneities in the superconductors Pb55In45 and underdoped La1.9Sr0.1CuO4

The magnetic field dependence of the magnetization was measured above the superconducting transition in a high-Tc underdoped cuprate La1.9Sr0.1CuO4 and in a low-Tc alloy (Pb55In45). Near the superconducting transition [typically for (T-Tc)/Tc<0.05] and under low applied magnetic field amplitudes [typically for H/Hc2(0)<0.01, where Hc2(0) is the corresponding upper critical field extrapolated to T=0 K] the magnetization of both samples presents a diamagnetic contribution much larger than the one predicted by the Gaussian Ginzburg-Landau (GGL) approach for superconducting fluctuations. These anomalies have been already observed in cuprate compounds by various groups and attributed to intrinsic effects associated with the own nature of these high-Tc superconductors. However, we will see here that our results in both high and low-Tc superconductors may be explained quantitatively, and consistently with the GGL behavior observed at higher fields, by just taking into account the presence in the samples of an uniform distribution of Tc inhomogeneities. These Tc inhomogeneities, which may be in turn associated with stoichiometric inhomogeneities, were estimated from independent measurements of the temperature dependence of the field-cooled magnetic susceptibility under low applied magnetic fields.Comment: 25 pages, including 6 figures and 1 table. Análisis de las experiencias piloto de implementación del sistema de transferencia de créditos europeos (ECTS) en la facultad de Educación y Humanidades de Melilla

La creación del Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior implica cambios tanto organizativos como docentes en la institución universitaria. En este sentido, la Junta de Andalucía ha propiciado la experimentación, a través de las Experiencias Piloto de implementación del sistema de transferencia de créditos europeos (ECTS), de la nueva fi losofía que impregna la Convergencia Europea. En el presente artículo se describen los resultados derivados de la evaluación tanto de alumnos como del profesorado universitario participante en el tercer año de Experiencia Piloto ECTS, relativos a las Titulaciones de Maestro-Audición y Lenguaje y Maestro-Educación Infantil.The creation of the European Higher Education Area involves both organizational and educational changes in the university institution. In this respect, the Andalusia´ Regional Government has propitiated the experimentation, by means of the Pilot Experiences for the implementation of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), of the new philosophy that impregnates the European Convergence. Non-enzymatic amperometric glucose screen-printed sensors based on copper and copper oxide particles

Non-enzymatic amperometric glucose sensors have gained much attention in the past decade because of the better chemical and thermal stability and biocompatibility compared to conventional sensors based on the use of biomolecules. This study focuses on a novel copper and copper oxide-based glucose sensor synthesized by an electrodeposition technique through a rigorous protocol which reports an excellent analytical performance due to its structure and its increased active area. In addition, the linear response range, detection limit and sensitivity were 0.5–5.0 mmol L−1, 0.002 mmol L−1, 904 μA mmol−1 L−1 cm−2, respectively. Results show a reliable electrode as it is chemically stable, exhibits rapid and excellent sensitivity, and it is not significantly affected by coexisting species present in the blood samples; furthermore, it reports a maximum relative standard deviation error (RSD) of 6%, and showed long operating life as the electrode was used for thousand measurements of 4.0 mmol L−1 glucose solution during three days.This research was funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities under the project RTI2018-093310-B-I00, grant Concepción Arenal from the University of Cantabria

O Formigueiro: a Medieval Castle in The Land ofBúbal (XIV-XV Centuries)

En este artículo se estudiará la historia del castillo de Formigueiro, desde su levantamiento por parte del monasterio de Oseira hasta el paso de la propiedad a la casa Sarmiento, y su posterior derribo en el contexto de las Guerras Irmandiñas, siendo reconstruido de nuevo entre 1477-1478, para acabar por ser derrocado definitivamente en el marco de la política antinobiliaria de los Reyes Católicos. Así mismo, se dará prueba de la diferenciación entre esta fortaleza y el vecino castillo de Alba de Búbal, intentando subsanar un error que se ha perpetuado en los trabajos académicos. Todo ello se realizará en base a un riguroso estudio de las fuentes documentales de manera directa, reflejando las más relevantes para el objetivo del presente trabajo.  This article will examine the history of Formigueiro’s Castle from its rising -carried out by the monastery of Oseira- to the trans-fer of the property to the Sarmiento lineage and its subsequent demolition in the context of the Irmandiños’ Wars. The Castle was re-built between the years 1477 and 1478 and ended up being definitively overthrown in the context of an anti-nobility policy of the Catholic Monarchs. Besides, this paper will bring light to the differentiation between this fortress and the neighbouring one of Alba de Búbal, trying to amend a mistake that has been perpetuated in previous academic research. All this work has been carried out from a rigo-rous direct study of the documentary sources, shaping the most relevant points according to the objectives of this project

Dolor agudo posoperatorio en el anciano

Entre los principales objetivos del anestesiólogo se encuentra mantener la homeostasis del organismo, no solo durante el desarrollo del acto quirúrgico, sino también en el período posoperatorio. Existe gran evidencia de la morbilidad posquirúrgica consecuente a las alteraciones metabólicas producidas por el dolor, entre las cuales se encuentran la prolongación del tiempo de recuperación, la rehabilitación e integración de los pacientes a sus labores habituales. El dolor posoperatorio, llamado el quinto signo vital, es usualmente severo e incapacitante; además, sigue siendo infravalorado y tratado de forma insuficiente, por estar influenciado por diversos factores, entre los que se encuentran: la dificultad en su valoración y el miedo a las medicaciones (causa más común de efectos adversos e interacciones), lo cual es más complicado en los ancianos. Esta revisión tiene como propósito abordar esta problemática en dichos pacientes
