naturais e a reduzir e prevenir a poluição ambiental.
palafítica adequada a solos arenosos.
It is necessary and urgent to improve the quality of life for all and that is why today's society is
obliged to promote sustainable development, to conserve and make better use of natural
resources, and to reduce and prevent environmental pollution. In this paradigm, buildings prove
to be an important means of achieving the reduction in energy consumption and carbon
emissions, as they account for much of the final energy consumption and waste generation. This
shortage that seems necessary in times of abundance, leads us to the pragmatism inherent in
vernacular architecture and its strategies, and it is in this type of construction that inspiration is
sought for alternative construction techniques. Another angle of action in the construction
sector is through the materials that are used, positioning the wood as a viable solution. With the
combination of these two aspects arises the interest of the vernacular architecture in wood.
This type of architecture in Portugal has a very strong expression on the north and central coast,
and it was here that it received the name of “palheiros”, not because it was intended to support
agriculture, but for the only exception to wood in this type of construction, the straw used in
the cover. It was with the fishermen and their way of life that this type of construction dissipated
most in Portugal, and it was also with the change of the way of life of these that the “palheiros”
knew its decline. In this context, the main objective of this work is to evaluate in-situ the
behaviour and comfort conditions of a building that belongs to the group of “palheiros” of Praia
de Mira. The sustainability principles of this type of vernacular architecture are the use of
renewable local resources, wood, and their suitability to the environment, palafite construction
suitable for sandy soils. The methodology was based on fieldwork consisting of objective
evaluations of the physical parameters of the building that influence thermal comfort (air
temperature and relative humidity, dry and wet bulb temperature, black bulb temperature and
air velocity) and in subjective assessments of the comfort level of occupants. The parameters
monitored were the temperature and the relative humidity of the air. The monitoring period
covered the various seasons of the year, starting at the end of 2014 and ending at the beginning
of 2016. The results of this study show that it is possible to ensure the limit of the thermal
comfort conditions or close to that, inside the building, in the cooling station, without resorting
to air conditioning systems
This supervised teaching practice report is part of the Introduction to Professional Practice IV course of the Master's Degree in Economics and Accounting Education. The supervised teaching practice had as its intervenients a group of the 10th year of the PROFIJ Course - level IV of commercial technician, at UFCD Marketing.
The present study focused on the relation between group work as a teaching-learning methodology and the development of competencies. The choice of the theme was due to its relevance and its necessary scrutiny, in order to enable the young people of today to develop skills that allow them to take over life in its entirety, giving them indispensable tools for the citizen of the 21st century .
Nowadays, there is a need to implement teaching-learning methodologies to achieve the proposed objectives, both in the syllabuses of the subjects and in a more global vision, according to the competencies described in the student profile. Many of the existing methodologies can, in one way or another, promote this same purpose. It is important, then, to understand how group work, as a teaching-learning methodology, places at the disposal of the students, a way to go that allows this same development of skills.
Thus, throughout the supervised teaching practice the main focus was on group work and its application. While noting that group work can foster the development of competences in students, through questionnaire surveys conducted, as well as participant observation, their potential as a teaching-learning methodology is related to the way in which their work is developed, implementation and participation by the students
A utilização destas ferramentas permite a
As nossas conclusões
Web 2.0 provides innumerous free tools that enable communication among
individuals, synchronously and asynchronously, whether through text, audio, video or
image, and facilitate the collaborative construction of knowledge. One of these tools is
podcasting, which is a valuable strategy in foreign languages teaching as it contributes to
the development of oral communication, and allows contact with authentic materials while
having several implications for time management, the relationships among the participants
and the construction of discourse and reflective thinking which is generated. These tools
allow learning based on social constructivist theories and can favour partnerships in the
development of high order skills, such as critical and creative thinking. This requires
rethinking the role of teachers in the curricular integration of ICT and considering new
technologies as another variable in the teaching practice.
The present case study is an attempt to understand how the learning of oral skills in
English as a Foreign Language occurs, using VoiceThread as a complement to classroom
learning. This research lasted for three months and the setting was an 8th grade class,
consisting of 28 students aged 13. Our findings point to the possibility that this
application: a) provides a valid complement to classroom learning; b) contributes to the
development of English oral skills; and c) promotes student learning. These educational
advantages stem from the simplicity and intuitiveness of its interface, from the fact that it
is an easy-to-learn technology for both teacher and student, and the possibility of
integration of multimedia content

Population and railways in Portugal, 1801-1930
Portuguese historiography has mostly adopted a pessimistic view regarding the contribution of the railways to the development of country. Yet, railway access helped to increase population concentration and economic development, favoring migration into towns, the growth of pre-existing urban centers, and the emergence of new centers. But railways tended to be more beneficial to regions that were already prosperous and to aggravate the conditions unfavorable to development in areas with greater structural weaknesses
1 Model order reduction: basic concepts and notation
This is the first chapter of a three-volume series dedicated to the theory and ap
plication of Model Order Reduction (MOR) .We motivate and introduce the basic con-
cepts and notation, with reference to the two main cultural approaches to MOR: the
system-theoretic approach employing state-space models and transfer functionc con-
cepts (Volume1), and the numerical analysis approach as applied to partial differen-
tial operators (Volume2) ,for which project ion and approximation in suitable function
spaces provide a rich set of tools for MOR.The set two approaches are complementary
but share.Despite the sometimes different opted language and notation, they also
share the main ideas andkey concepts, which are briefly summarized in this chapter.
The material is presented so that all chapters in this three-volume series are put into
context, by high lighting the specific problems that they address. An overview of all MOR applications in volume 3 is also provided
