A comment on "The effect of a common currency on the volatility of the extensive margin of trade"
In this paper I comment on Auray, Eyquem, and Pontineau (2012). I show that their introduction of sticky-prices into Ghironi \& Melitz (2005) framework is incorrect and generates a bias in simulation results. Additionally, I find that, by introducing sticky-prices into Ghironi \& Melitz (2005) framework in a correct way, the model is able to account for the empirical findings of Auray, Eyquem, and Pontineau (2012). Finally, I also find that if central banks target a data-consistent CPI inflation, results improve quantitatively.Pricing-to-market; Local currency pricing; Extensive Margin; Monetary Union; Monetary Policy
The Relationship between Trigger Price and Punishment Period in Green and Porter (1984) Game made Endogenous
Green and Porter (1984) made a huge contribution to Industrial Organization Theory where a trigger price is defined by firms and whenever the price falls below this trigger price, the firms cease to produce at the monopoly level and enter into a punishment period. Our goal with this paper is to define, endogenously in the model, relationships between the trigger price and the punishment period, which were set exogenously in the original paper.Green and Porter (1984); trigger price; punishment period
Big data analytics for intra-logistics process planning in the automotive sector
The manufacturing sector is facing an important stage with Industry 4.0. This paradigm
shift impulses companies to embrace innovative technologies and to pursuit near-zero
fault, near real-time reactivity, better traceability, and more predictability, while working
to achieve cheaper product customization.
The scenario presented addresses multiple intra-logistic processes of the automotive factory
Volkswagen Autoeuropa, where different situations need to be addressed. The main
obstacle is the absence of harmonized and integrated data flows between all stages of the
intra-logistic process which leads to inefficiencies. The existence of data silos is heavily
contributing to this situation, which makes the planning of intra-logistics processes a
challenge.
The objective of the work presented here, is to integrate big data and machine learning
technologies over data generated by the several manufacturing systems present, and
thus support the management and optimisation of warehouse, parts transportation, sequencing
and point-of-fit areas. This will support the creation of a digital twin of the
intra-logistics processes. Still, the end goal is to employ deep learning techniques to
achieve predictive capabilities, all together with simulation, in order to optimize processes
planning and equipment efficiency.
The work presented on this thesis, is aligned with the European project BOOST 4.0, with
the objective to drive big data technologies in manufacturing domain, focusing on the
automotive use-case

Using container-based virtualization on web apps production environment: dipcode development cycle
Dissertação de mestrado integrado em Engenharia InformáticaWith the fast evolution of the internet over the last years, the top priority on software
development has shifted from what? to when?. Reduced time-to-market is now the
competitive edge that all companies strive for.
The usage of container-based virtualization technologies keep the multiple environments
where a development team works similar enough, that their work is made easier when devel oping and testing new features, which in turn results in a significantly faster delivery. The
nature of this tecnhology also brings numerous advantages when it comes to management,
monitoring and maintaining resources, allowing for an ease of adjustment, based on the
client needs.
Throughout this dissertation is presented an extended base of knowledge about container
technologies, especially Docker, as well as what are the basic techniques to use when building
an application inside such infrastructure, from the writing of the Dockerfile to the adaptation
of the multiple pipelines responsible to deploy the application.
Food tourism : a netnographic study about online engagement on food tourism communities and what to look for as a business owner
Food tourism is becoming a relevant and developing trend in the industry of tourism. Consumers nowadays travel in order to explore and to get acquainted with cultures and realities they haven’t experienced. A substantial part of this discovery is played by food. This cultural feature is one of the strongest and most representative, it has been passed on from generation to generation to, ultimately, culminate on what it is today. Considering this trend, existing academic research about food tourism with the target of understanding consumers’ engagement has been conceived but is limited. Therefore, by using a qualitative method of netnography, the present thesis aims to understand users’ engagement in the online food tourism community. Results show the emergence of three themes that can be related to online food tourism communities. The most evident is online leadership demonstrated by the tight relationship between the leader and followers of the community. Secondly, knowledge is a theme due to the continuous exchange of food tourism expertise within the communities. Lastly, food tourism comes hand in hand with the development of emotions and the influence of behaviours, and thus the last theme to be considered is consequences. To conclude, implications include how food tourism business owners should advertise their food experiences, how they could collect valuable insights about their target audience and why opinion leaders shouldn’t be ignored.O turismo de alimentos está a manifestar-se como uma tendência relevante e em desenvolvimento na indústria do turismo.
