Optimised search heuristic combining valid inequalities and tabu search

This paper presents an Optimised Search Heuristic that combines a tabu search method with the verification of violated valid inequalities. The solution delivered by the tabu search is partially destroyed by a randomised greedy procedure, and then the valid inequalities are used to guide the reconstruction of a complete solution. Nevermore: pretext machine

Our proposal is to make a graphic representation of the sound syntax and the syllabic structure enclosed in The Raven, published in 1845 by Edgar Allan Poe, using a script that works simultaneously as reading-text-machine, a drawing-machine and a synthesis-text-machine. The script translates the poem structure into an abstract grid, generating a drawing. The geometric definition of the poem is then constrained by the characters and their correspondent location to the sound code: the word nevermore and the textual reverberation it produces. A synthesis of the poem is achieved by a recursive selection of syllables, resulting in a graphical and textual configuration towards a rewritten final stanza. The process is repeated with the Portuguese translation of the poem, made by Fernando Pessoa in 1924. To understand the progressive changes in body composition with ageing, the physiologial processes behind these changes and also the nutritional needs of the elderly are fundamental steps to promete the quality and duration of this growing age group. Ageing is accompanied by a progressive increase in free radical production or/and a progressive decrease in antioxidant protection (Bunker, 1992). Oxidantive processes have been implicated in aging and it has been proposed that antioxidants may have beneficial effects on cognitive functions in the elderly (Carr and Frei, 1999). The free radical theory of ageing suggests that progressive defects in protection against free radical reactions allow tissue damage to occur (Bunker, 1992). An antioxidant is any substance that, when present at low concentrations compared with those of an oxidizable substrate, significantly delays or prevents oxidation of that substrate (Bunker, 1992). Vitamin E, vitamin C, the vitamin A precursor, B-carotene and selenium, are the four dietary antioxidants recognized and accepted by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) (Carr and Frei, 1999). The purpose of this study was to compare the antioxidant profile in two differents age groups. Crossectional data from Giessener Senioren Langzeitstudie (GISELA study) and the Nutrition and health examination study of young adults (NHESYA) were compared. The objectives were to know if old and young people differ in their intake of antioxidants, if there are serum alterations due to aging and if plasma antioxidans are influenced by intake. For these purposes, the intake and plasma concentrations of the 4 above mentioned antioxidans, were analyzed and compared with other studies in the field

The psychology of freediving : psychological strategies used by elite freedivers

Tese de mestrado, Psicologia (Secção de Psicologia Clínica e da Saúde, Núcleo de Psicoterapia Cognitiva-Comportamental e Integrativa), Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de Psicologia, 2018The present investigation aimed to explore and analyze the psychological strategies used by elite professional freedivers in both training and competition scenarios. Following a qualitative approach, the research consisted of a sampling group of 20 elite freedivers from 15 countries, who currently hold or have held National and/or World Records in at least one or more disciplines, and who were interviewed through the semi structured interview method. The interviews were transcribed and the collected data was analyzed using the QSR NVIVO11 software. The main results demonstrate that the majority of the interviewees acknowledge the impact psychological variables have in their performance, using strategies such as visualization, autogenic training, autosuggestion, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and relaxation and meditative practices, and consider freedive to be a psychologically demanding sport rather than physical. Overall, the attained data and results indicate that psychological exercises can have a positive impact when planned and performed correctly and that the psychological preparation within athletes’ training plans should not be, by any means, neglected.A presente dissertação teve como principal intuito investigar e analisar as estratégias psicológicas utilizadas por freedivers profissionais em contextos de treino e de competição. Através de uma análise qualitativa, a amostra desta investigação foi constituída por 20 freedivers profissionais de 15 nacionalidades, que mantêm ou já obtiveram recordes nacionais e/ou mundiais pelo menos numa ou mais disciplinas, e que foram entrevistados através do método de entrevista semiestruturada. Posteriormente, as entrevistas foram transcritas e os dados obtidos foram analisados através do software QSR NVIVO11. Os principais resultados obtidos demonstram que a maioria dos atletas entrevistados reconhece o impacto de variáveis psicológicas nas suas performances e utilizam estratégias como a visualização, o treino autogénico, a autossugestão, a Programação Neurolinguística (NLP) e práticas de relaxamento e meditativas, considerando que o freedive é um desporto mais exigente a nível psicológico do que a nível físico. De um modo geral, os dados e os resultados obtidos indicam que exercícios e um treino a nível psicológico pode ter um impacto positivo quando planeados e realizados corretamente, e que a preparação psicológica incluída nos planos de treino de atletas profissionais não deverá, de forma alguma, ser menosprezada

Abordagens plurais nos primeiros anos de escolaridade: reflexões a partir de contextos de intervenção

Tout en cherchant des réponses aux défis qui se placent, aujourd’hui, aux systèmes éducatifs, dans la gestion de multiples diversités, nous voulons dans ce texte réfléchir sur les approches plurielles, notamment sur les possibilités ouvertes par l’éveil aux langues. Les études présentées montrent différentes formes d’éducation des éléves, dès les premières années de scolarité, au plurilinguisme (respect et mise en valeur de l’autre, de ses langues et de ses cultures ; conscience du langage ; compréhension des problèmes du monde), dans un engagement avec le développement durable et l’intercompréhension.Taking into consideration the challenges facing education today, namely the need to deal with the multiple diversities ever more present within the classrooms, it is our goal in this text to reflect upon the possibilities of plural approaches, in particular of the awakening to languages approach, in the first school years. In this sense, we present two studies which show possible ways of educating young children to value and respect Others with their languages and cultures, to become aware and reflect upon language and linguistic diversity, and to understand World issues, in a serious commitment with pluralism, multiculturalism and an education for sustainable development

Deambulações pelos lugares do desenho e os lugares da aprendizagem

O documento apresentado constitui-se numa experiência de deambulação pelos lugares do desenho na escola e suas possibilidades incertas de aprendizagem. Esta deambulação acontece através de uma escrita que procura refletir nas posturas assumidas enquanto professora-estagiária com uma turma de 12º ano no contexto da disciplina de Desenho A. Tais posturas não só foram moldadas por acontecimentos exteriores aquando da experiência de estágio curricular, como por um conjunto de reflexos interiores antes e depois desta. Neste contexto, flui-se entre a particularidade desta turma finalista do ensino secundário, o universo mais geral da estrutura da Escola e o âmbito específico da disciplina de Desenho, procurando-se perceber como tais articulações se refletem nas aprendizagens dos alunos, no trabalho dos professores e na própria ação de desenhar. Pretende-se perceber que aprendizagens para com o desenhar dominam no contexto de ensino que deu corpo a esta experiência de estágio, procurando-se encontrar outros espaços para o desenho na escola e cujos lugares permitam encará-lo além de uma ideia como objeto feito ou acabado. É, assim, na ação de desenhar que se centram as atenções deste relatório, tendo sido deste conjunto de preocupações que se desenvolveu uma didática de aula cujo propósito seria refletir na dimensão do fazer desenho enquanto lugar e Gesto de aprendizagem. A partir desta proposta didática exploraram-se as potencialidades e dificuldades do desenho centrado na sua ação, bem como o seu significado para as aprendizagens dos alunos e para o meu processo de formação enquanto professora de desenho

Fotografia-História, o pensamento em imagens : Contributos para a leitura de «História da Imagem Fotográfica em Portugal, 1839-1997» (António Sena, 1998) como um hiperdocumento

Com esta investigação pretende-se caracterizar a relação indissociável entre História e Fotografia, reconhecendo as múltiplas formas de manipulação e respectivos mecanismos de hierarquização de poder, que não apenas determinam o desenvolvimento da sua produção, arquivo e recepção, como desvendam uma constelação de ligações disciplinares, técnicas e políticas que potenciam e moldam o seu sentido. Esta problemática é analisada no contexto português, a partir das práticas de exposição, publicação e colecção fotográfica e consequente ajuste do discurso teórico e crítico nas décadas de 1980 e 1990, adoptando como eixo de pesquisa o trabalho de investigação e historiografia desenvolvido entre 1973 e 1998 por António Sena e, especificamente, o modo como aplica a História (de um meio) como hiperdocumento. O filme Olho de Vidro, uma História da Fotografia (1982), realizado por António Sena e Margarida Gil, as iniciativas fotográficas desenvolvidas pela associação ether/vale tudo menos tirar olhos entre 1982 e 1994, a criação da base de dados Luzitânia/ ether pix database e as publicações Uma História de Fotografia (1991) e História da Imagem Fotográfica em Portugal, 1839-1997 (1998) da autoria de António Sena, formam o corpus do nosso estudo de caso.The purpose of this research is to analyze the inextricable relation between History and Photography, acknowledging the multiple practices of manipulation and power mechanisms, which not only determine the development of its production, archive and reception, but also unveil a constellation of disciplinary, technical and political influences that enhance and shape their meaning. This topic is studied in the Portuguese context, from the perspective of the exhibition, publishing, collection, and also expanding to the theoretical and critical discourse of the photographic activities established during the 1980s and 1990s, taking as axis the research and historiography developed in between 1973 and 1998 by António Sena, specifically the way he applies and unfolds a Media History as an hyperdocument. Responsabilidade civil pelos danos decorrentes de acidentes e trabalho

Dissertação de mestrado em Direito dos Contratos e EmpresasO presente estudo tem por objeto a análise da Responsabilidade Civil pelos Danos decorrentes de Acidentes de Trabalho. Atualmente, a sinistralidade laboral é um problema que afeta uma parte considerável da população envolvendo o trabalhador, a entidade patronal e os técnicos de higiene e segurança no trabalho. Este problema posiciona o fenómeno do acidente de trabalho como objeto fulcral do estudo. Assim, a investigação focou-se na análise da lei 98/2009 de 4 de setembro (LAT, Lei dos Acidentes de Trabalho), bem como outros diplomas legais que regulam a mesma. Nos termos do artigo 8º da LAT, é acidente de trabalho aquele que se verifique no local e no tempo de trabalho e produza direta ou indiretamente lesão corporal, perturbação funcional ou doença de que resulte redução na capacidade de trabalho ou de ganho ou a morte. Partindo (sempre) da análise deste preceito e para a apuração de um responsável analisou-se a responsabilidade civil do empregador no âmbito dos acidentes de trabalho, tal como as causas de exclusão, redução e agravamento da responsabilidade. Outros aspetos (temáticas) relevantes para a mesma foram evidenciados.The present study aims at the analysis of civil liability for damages arising from accidents at work. Currently, workplace accident claims are a concerning problem, involving the employer, the worker, the insurance company and the health safety technicians. This problem places the phenomenon of workplace accidents as the primary objective of this study. Thus, the investigation of this issue has focused on a thorough and careful analysis of the law 98/2009 of the 4th of September (Workplace Accidents Law), as well as the analysis of other enactments. According to the law, an accident at work is one that occurs in the workplace during the course of work which leads to direct or indirect physical injury or functional disorder or disease, resulting in the reduction of work capacity, gain or death. For the determination of liability, the employers responsibilities regarding compensation of the workplace accident was analyzed, as were the causes of exclusion, reduction and aggravation.
