    Zero-Risk Interpretation in the Level of Preventive Action Method Implementation for Health and Safety in Construction Sites

    Risk assessment is a legal obligation for all companies in most countries worldwide. It aims to control the quality of working conditions and avoid externalizing the consequences of accidents and resulting costs to society. This work discusses the need for an adequate interpretation of the zero-risk concept from a technical-preventive perspective to assess occupational risks in construction sites. A critical analysis of several risk assessment methodologies was carried out, focusing on the evaluation criteria of little or no-risk situations. The verification of the results was made through a case study. The perception of health and safety risks by workers is very different from that of the evaluators. Often, when workers identify a situation as low-risk or even zero-risk, the evaluator assesses the same context as maximum risk. Given the workers' and the evaluators' responses, the Preventive Action Method establishes a new parameter, the Environment Congruence. This parameter is based on the perception of the preventive environment and gives more importance to the evaluators' decision. When preventive action is optimal, the risk is low in all preventive observation settings. In conclusion, this study justifies the non-nullity of the risk and the difficulty of assessing zero-risk in construction sites. Therefore, evaluations with qualitative and quantitative non-risk approaches should be discarded

    Currently society demands new forms of learning due to the characteristics of the new generations. This research paper shows the importance of the implementation of gamification in the upper level classrooms, specifically in the classrooms of the Faculty of Public Accounting and Administration, Campus Cadereyta, in the careers of Public Accountant and Bachelor of Administration. Gamification is a technique that consists of teaching chairs through games and its main objective is to learn by playing. This research work is carried out by means of a survey applied to a group of students of the Faculty of Public Accounting and Administration, Campus Cadereyta, in the Public Accountant and Bachelor of Administration careers, in addition to the application of a survey made only to the teachers of the learning units of the groups of students surveyed. With the results obtained from the application of both surveys, certain conclusions are reached and a series of recommendations for the implementation of the gamification process are added at the end of this research.Actualmente la sociedad exige nuevas formas de aprendizaje debido a las características propias de las nuevas generaciones. El presente trabajo de investigación muestra la importancia de la implementación de la gamificación en las aulas del nivel superior, específicamente en las aulas de la Facultad de contaduría pública y administración, Campus Cadereyta, en las carreras de Contador público y Licenciado en administración. La gamificación es una técnica que consiste en impartir catedra a través de los juegos y su objetivo principal es aprender jugando. En este trabajo de investigación se lleva a cabo mediante una encuesta aplicada a un grupo de alumnos de la Facultad de contaduría pública y administración, Campus Cadereyta, en las carreras de Contador público y Licenciado en administración, además de la aplicación de una encuesta hecha únicamente a los docentes de las unidades de aprendizaje de los grupos de alumnos encuestados. Con los resultados obtenidos de la aplicación de ambas encuestas se llegan a ciertas conclusiones y además se agregan al final del presente trabajo de investigación una serie de recomendaciones para la implementación del proceso de gamificación

    We describe the polarization features for plasmon fields generated by the interference between two elemental surface plasmon modes, obtaining a set of Stokes parameters which allows establishing a parallelism with the traditional polarization model. With the analysis presented, we find the corresponding coherence matrix for plasmon fields incorporating to the plasmon optics the study of partial polarization effects

    Discovery of biomarker panels for neural dysfunction in inborn errors of amino acid metabolism.

    Patients with inborn errors of amino acid metabolism frequently show neuropsychiatric symptoms despite accurate metabolic control. This study aimed to gain insight into the underlying mechanisms of neural dysfunction. Here we analyzed the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and 10 genes required for correct brain functioning in plasma and blood of patients with Urea Cycle Disorders (UCD), Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD) and controls. Receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to evaluate sensitivity and specificity of potential biomarkers. CACNA2D2 (α2δ2 subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels) and MECP2 (methyl-CpG binding protein 2) mRNA and protein showed an excellent neural function biomarker signature (AUC ≥ 0,925) for recognition of MSUD. THBS3 (thrombospondin 3) mRNA and AABA gave a very good biomarker signature (AUC 0,911) for executive-attention deficits. THBS3, LIN28A mRNA, and alanine showed a perfect biomarker signature (AUC 1) for behavioral and mood disorders. Finally, a panel of BDNF protein and at least two large neural AAs showed a perfect biomarker signature (AUC 1) for recognition of psychomotor delay, pointing to excessive protein restriction as central causative of psychomotor delay. To conclude, our study has identified promising biomarker panels for neural function evaluation, providing a base for future studies with larger samples
