Algebraic theory of endohedrally confined diatomic molecules: application to H2_2@C60_{60}

A simple and yet powerful approach for modeling the structure of endohedrally confined diatomic molecules is introduced. The theory, based on a u(4)+u(3) dynamical algebra, combines u(4), the vibron model dynamical algebra, with a u(3) dynamical algebra that models a spherically symmetric three dimensional potential. The first algebra encompasses the internal roto-vibrations degrees of freedom of the molecule, while the second takes into account the confined molecule center-of-mass degrees of freedom. A resulting subalgebra chain is connected to the underlying physics and the model is applied to the prototypical case of H2 caged in a fullerene molecule. The spectrum of the supramolecular complex H2@C60 is described with a few parameters and predictions for not yet detected levels are made. Our fits suggest that the quantum numbers of a few lines should be reassigned to obtain better agreement with data.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures plus 4 pages of supplemental material. Ghost Penalties in Nonconvex Constrained Optimization: Diminishing Stepsizes and Iteration Complexity

We consider nonconvex constrained optimization problems and propose a new approach to the convergence analysis based on penalty functions. We make use of classical penalty functions in an unconventional way, in that penalty functions only enter in the theoretical analysis of convergence while the algorithm itself is penalty-free. Based on this idea, we are able to establish several new results, including the first general analysis for diminishing stepsize methods in nonconvex, constrained optimization, showing convergence to generalized stationary points, and a complexity study for SQP-type algorithms.Comment: To appear on Mathematics of Operations Researc

More on microstate geometries of 4d black holes

We construct explicit examples of microstate geometries of four-dimensional black holes that lift to smooth horizon-free geometries in five dimensions. Solutions consist of half-BPS D-brane atoms distributed in $\mathbb{R}^3$. Charges and positions of the D-brane centers are constrained by the bubble equations and boundary conditions ensuring the regularity of the metric and the match with the black hole geometry. In the case of three centers, we find that the moduli spaces of solutions includes disjoint one-dimensional components of (generically) finite volume.Comment: 25 page

Affective factors have more often than not been given passing attention when describing the process of second language acquisition. This paper points out that however relevant cognition can be, learners also experience an affective involvement when learning a language. Empirical research has repeatedly turned its attention to affect to account for variation in second language learning but this connection takes place in a theoretical vacuum. This paper aims at presenting a framework that links affect to one of the most undisputed cognitive mechanisms in second language acquisition, that of strategies. Once this framework has been dealt with, this paper emphasizes the central role that affect should have in second language research

Indirect monitoring method of tool wear using the analysis of cutting force during dry machining of Ti alloys

In recent decades, optimize tool life is in constant evolution so many researchers have focused to analysis the tool wear by indirect monitoring (e.g. acoustic emission, cutting forces, vibrations) that plays a significant role in control and improvement of product during of machining operations - in real time to prevent instabilities of process. On another hand, it is recalled that titanium alloys are used in many industries as aerospace sector that have been utilized in strength to weight ration reduction in some parts of aircraft. This article tells the main problems of the mass media companies in the current state of economic crisis in Spain, from 2008 until now. It pays special attention to the case of the advertising industry. This work shows the current Spanish media landscape, determinate by the deep crisis and a low invest in traditional advertising. It explains how the advertising crisis has forced the media to change their own structures as corporations.Este artículo resume los principales problemas de las empresas de medios de comunicación en el actual contexto de crisis económica que vive España, desde 2008 hasta la actualidad. Pone el acento en el caso de la industria de la publicidad.
