Add-on inhaled budesonide in the treatment of hospitalised patients with COVID-19 : a randomised clinical trial

SARS-CoV-2 vaccines have been extremely effective to reduce the incidence of severe COVID19 [1-3], but effective and safe treatments of the acute infection are still limited [4, 5]. An uncontrolled pulmonary inflammatory response to SARS-CoV-2 is considered a key pathogenic mechanism of COVID19 progression [6], so systemic dexamethasone is recommended in severe cases [5, 7]. On the other hand, in very mild patients at home inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) may prevent disease progression [8-11]. Whether ICS prevent disease progression too in patients hospitalised because of COVID19 has not been explored before. Accordingly, we designed an investigator-initiated, open-label, randomised clinical trial (RCT) to explore the efficacy of adding inhaled budesonide to usual care to prevent disease progression in patients hospitalised because of COVID19 pneumonia. We also monitored carefully the safety of this intervention since there are concerns about the use of systemic corticosteroids in other viral (influenza) lung infections [12]

Se provee información para: identificar tecnologías y ocupaciones emergentes que permitan anticipar la definición de perfiles de instructores, determinar requerimientos de modernización de infraestructura física y tecnológica del Centro de formación, actualizar, crear o eliminar programas de formación, establecer el tipo de formación, servicios tecnológicos e innovación que el centro de formación ofrecerá en un horizonte de 10 años e identificar los proyectos y actores estratégicos para el centro de formación.The technological plan of the SENA Industrial Technological Design and Innovation Center for the period 2002-2030 is presented. It includes the analysis and diagnosis of the Risaralda industry, its needs and trends, with a focus on industry 4.0. Diversity of yeast species from Dutch garden soil and the description of six novel Ascomycetes

A Citizen Science initiative by the Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute and the Utrecht University Museum gave rise to a project where fungal and yeast isolates were obtained and identified from Dutch soil samples. During the current study, 386 yeast strains were isolated from 157 different locations in the Netherlands. These strains were identified using sequence data of the large-subunit rRNA gene (D1/D2 region) and the internal transcribed spacer 1 and 2 regions. A total of 53 different yeast species were found as well as 15 potentially novel species. Six novel ascomycetous species are described during this study that include Hanseniaspora mollemarum sp. nov., Ogataea degrootiae sp. nov., Pichia gijzeniarum sp. nov., Saccharomycopsis oosterbeekiorum sp. nov., Trichomonascus vanleenenius sp. nov. and Zygoascus flipseniorum sp. nov. This study made it possible to incorporate numerous yeast isolates into the CBS collection without any restrictions, which make these isolates readily available for use by others. Many of the isolates represented species of which only a few isolates or even only a single ex-type strain were available. Therefore, it is a clear indication that such biodiversity-orientated Citizen Science projects can enrich the pool of available yeasts for future research projects

Acremonium with catenate elongate conidia: phylogeny of Acremonium fusidioides and related species

Acremonium is one of the largest and most complex genera of hyphomycetes. Its taxonomy is not yet resolved and the phylogenetic value of the most distinctive morphological features is unknown. The species of this genus produce conidia in chains or form slimy heads or both. We have studied a set of clinical and environmental Acremonium strains morphologically characterized by producing mostly catenate, elongate, more or less fusiform conidia. Based on phenotypic data and in the analysis of the sequences of the ITS region, the D1/D2 domains of the 28S rRNA gene and a fragment of the β-tubulin gene, three new species morphologically similar to Acremonium fusidioides and belonging to the family Bionectriaceae (Hypocreales) are described and illustrated; they are Acremonium pilosum, Acremonium parvum and Acremonium citrinum. The first species produces two kinds of conidia: clavate with smooth walls and globose with abundant filiform projections. Acremonium parvum is characterized by slow growth and pyriform or slightly lanceolate conidia with an elongate and truncate base. Acremonium citrinum produces a diffusible yellow pigment and obovoid conidia

Occurrence of Ochroconis and Verruconis species in clinical specimens from the United States

Ochroconis is a dematiaceous fungus able to infect immunocompetent people. Recently, the taxonomy of the genus has been reevaluated, and the most relevant species, Ochroconis gallopava, was transferred to the new genus Verruconis. Due to the important clinical implications of these fungi and based on the recent classification, it was of interest to know the spectra of Ochroconis and Verruconis species in clinical samples received in a reference laboratory in the United States. A set of 51 isolates was identified morphologically and molecularly based on sequence analyses of the nuclear ribosomal RNA (nrRNA), actin, and β-tubulin genes. Verruconis gallopava was the most common species (68.6%), followed by Ochroconis mirabilis (21.5%). One isolate of Ochroconis cordanae was found, being reported for the first time in a clinical setting. The most common anatomical site of isolation was the lower respiratory tract (58.8%), followed by superficial and deep tissues at similar frequencies (21.6 and 19.6%, respectively). Interestingly, three new species were found, which are Ochroconis olivacea and Ochroconis ramosa from clinical specimens and Ochroconis icarus of an environmental origin. The in vitro antifungal susceptibilities of eight antifungal drugs against the Ochroconis isolates revealed that terbinafine and micafungin were the most active drugs

La psicología organizacional es aquella rama que estudia los fenómenos psicológicos individuales al interior de las organizaciones, por ello tiene en cuenta cómo influyen los procesos organizacionales sobre la persona, adicionalmente identifica cuáles son los factores a fortalecer en los empleados para poder llevar a cabo procedimientos que velen por la buena calidad de vida organizacional y el buen desempeño de las personas. The Genera of Fungi: fixing the application of type species of generic names

To ensure a stable platform for fungal taxonomy, it is of paramount importance that the genetic application of generic names be based on their DNA sequence data, and wherever possible, not morphology or ecology alone. To facilitate this process, a new database, accessible at www.GeneraofFungi.org (GoF) was established, which will allow deposition of metadata linked to holo-, lecto-, neo- or epitype specimens, cultures and DNA sequence data of the type species of genera. Although there are presently more than 18 000 fungal genera described, we aim to initially focus on the subset of names that have been placed on the "Without-prejudice List of Protected Generic Names of Fungi" (see IMA Fungus 4(2): 381-443, 2013). To enable the global mycological community to keep track of typification events and avoid duplication, special MycoBank Typification identfiers (MBT) will be issued upon deposit of metadata in MycoBank. MycoBank is linked to GoF, thus deposited metadata of generic type species will be displayed in GoF (and vice versa), but will also be linked to Index Fungorum (IF) and the curated RefSeq Targeted Loci (RTL) database in GenBank at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). This initial paper focuses on eight genera of appendaged coelomycetes, the type species of which are neo- or epitypified here: Bartalinia (Bartalinia robillardoides; Amphisphaeriaceae, Xylariales), Chaetospermum (Chaetospermum chaetosporum, incertae sedis, Sebacinales), Coniella (Coniella fragariae, Schizoparmaceae, Diaporthales), Crinitospora (Crinitospora pulchra, Melanconidaceae, Diaporthales), Eleutheromyces (Eleutheromyces subulatus, Helotiales), Kellermania (Kellermania yuccigena, Planistromataceae, Botryosphaeriales), Mastigosporium (Mastigosporium album, Helotiales), and Mycotribulus (Mycotribulus mirabilis, Agaricales).
