Pseudo-Supersymmetry and the Domain-Wall/Cosmology Correspondence
The correspondence between domain-wall and cosmological solutions of gravity
coupled to scalar fields is explained. Any domain wall solution that admits a
Killing spinor is shown to correspond to a cosmology that admits a
pseudo-Killing spinor: whereas the Killing spinor obeys a Dirac-type equation
with hermitian `mass'-matrix, the corresponding pseudo-Killing spinor obeys a
Dirac-type equation with a anti-hermitian `mass'-matrix. We comment on some

Early changes in diaphragmatic function evaluated using ultrasound in cardiac surgery patients: a cohort study.
Little is known about the evolution of diaphragmatic function in the early post-cardiac surgery period. The main purpose of this work is to describe its evolution using ultrasound measurements of muscular excursion and thickening fraction (TF). Single-center prospective study of 79 consecutive uncomplicated elective cardiac surgery patients, using motion-mode during quiet unassisted breathing. Excursion and TF were measured sequentially for each patient [pre-operative (D1), 1 day (D2) and 5 days (D3) after surgery]. Pre-operative median for right and left hemidiaphragmatic excursions were 1.8 (IQR 1.6 to 2.1) cm and 1.7 (1.4 to 2.0) cm, respectively. Pre-operative median right and left thickening fractions were 28 (19 to 36) % and 33 (22 to 51) %, respectively. At D2, there was a reduction in both excursion (right: 1.5 (1.1 to 1.8) cm, p < 0.001, left: 1.5 (1.1 to 1.8), p = 0.003) and thickening fractions (right: 20 (15 to 34) %, p = 0.021, left: 24 (17 to 39) %, p = 0.002), followed by a return to pre-operative values at D3. A positive moderate correlation was found between excursion and thickening fraction (Spearman's rho 0.518 for right and 0.548 for left hemidiaphragm, p < 0.001). Interobserver reliability yielded a bias below 0.1 cm with limits of agreement (LOA) of ± 0.3 cm for excursion and - 2% with LOA of ± 21% for thickening fractions. After cardiac surgery, the evolution of diaphragmatic function is characterized by a transient impairment followed by a quick recovery. Although ultrasound diaphragmatic excursion and thickening fraction are correlated, excursion seems to be a more feasible and reproducible method in this population
Shifting Patterns in Marks and Registration: France, the United States and United Kingdom, 1870-1970
This paper looks at trademarks and brands, beyond the conventional interests of marketing and law, as a way to explaining the evolution of international business and economies in general. It shows that the perspective defended by many scholars such as Chandler (1990), Wilkins (1991, 1994) and Koehn’ (2001), about the Anglo-Saxon countries, and in particular the United States, leading the transition to modern trade-marks is narrow in its focus. Instead of the United States standing out as historically on the leading edge of innovation in the law and practice of trade marking, it appears from several directions to have been on the trailing edge. France and Britain have a more enduring interest in trademarking. The paper also looks at one particular subset of trade mark registration data – non durable consumer goods. These, and in particular food, are the dominant sectors in the three countries in terms of trademarking, reflecting the character of the sectors where imagery associated with the products is so central in competition. Influence of chronic azithromycin treatment on the composition of the oropharyngeal microbial community in patients with severe asthma
Background: This study of the oropharyngeal microbiome complements the previously published AZIthromycin in Severe ASThma (AZISAST) clinical trial, where the use of azithromycin was assessed in subjects with exacerbationprone severe asthma. Here, we determined the composition of the oropharyngeal microbial community by means of deep sequencing of the amplified 16S rRNA gene in oropharyngeal swabs from patients with exacerbationprone severe asthma, at baseline and during and after 6 months treatment with azithromycin or placebo.
Results: A total of 1429 OTUs were observed, of which only 59 were represented by more than 0.02% of the reads. Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Fusobacteria, Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria were the most abundant phyla and Streptococcus and Prevotella were the most abundant genera in all the samples. Thirteen species only accounted for two thirds of the reads and two species only, i.e. Prevotella melaninogenica and Streptococcus mitis/pneumoniae, accounted for one fourth of the reads. We found that the overall composition of the oropharyngeal microbiome in patients with severe asthma is comparable to that of the healthy population, confirming the results of previous studies. Long term treatment (6 months) with azithromycin increased the species Streptococcus salivarius approximately 5-fold and decreased the species Leptotrichia wadei approximately 5-fold. This was confirmed by Boruta feature selection, which also indicated a significant decrease of L. buccalis/L. hofstadtii and of Fusobacterium nucleatum. Four of the 8 treated patients regained their initial microbial composition within one month after cessation of treatment.
Conclusions: Despite large diversity of the oropharyngeal microbiome, only a few species predominate. We confirm the absence of significant differences between the oropharyngeal microbiomes of people with and without severe asthma. Possibly, long term azithromycin treatment may have long term effects on the composition of the oropharygeal microbiome in half of the patients

An MLSA-based online scheme for the rapid identification of Stenotrophomonas isolates
An online scheme to assign Stenotrophomonas isolates to genomic groups was developed using the multilocus sequence analysis (MLSA), which is based on the DNA sequencing of selected fragments of the housekeeping genes ATP synthase alpha subunit (atpA), the recombination repair protein (recA), the RNA polymerase alpha subunit (rpoA) and the excision repair beta subunit (uvrB). This MLSA-based scheme was validated using eight of the 10 Stenotrophomonas species that have been previously described. The environmental and nosocomial Stenotrophomonas strains were characterised using MLSA, 16S rRNA sequencing and DNA-DNA hybridisation (DDH) analyses. Strains of the same species were found to have greater than 95% concatenated sequence similarity and specific strains formed cohesive readily recognisable phylogenetic groups. Therefore, MLSA appeared to be an effective alternative methodology to amplified fragment length polymorphism fingerprint and DDH techniques. A survey of energy loss calculations for heavy ions between 1 and 100 keV
The original Lindhard-Scharff-Schi{\o}tt (LSS) theory and the more recent
Tilinin theory for calculating the nuclear and electronic stopping powers of
slow heavy ions are compared with predictions from the SRIM code by Ziegler.
While little discrepancies are present for the nuclear contribution to the
energy loss, large differences are found in the electronic one. When full ion
recoil cascade simulations are tested against the elastic neutron scattering
data available in the literature, it can be concluded that the LSS theory is

Now You See It, Now You Don't: The Disappearing Central Engine of the Quasar J1011+5442
We report the discovery of a new "changing-look" quasar, SDSS
J101152.98+544206.4, through repeat spectroscopy from the Time Domain
Spectroscopic Survey. This is an addition to a small but growing set of quasars
whose blue continua and broad optical emission lines have been observed to
decline by a large factor on a time scale of approximately a decade. The 5100
Angstrom monochromatic continuum luminosity of this quasar drops by a factor of
> 9.8 in a rest-frame time interval of < 9.7 years, while the broad H-alpha
luminosity drops by a factor of 55 in the same amount of time. The width of the
broad H-alpha line increases in the dim state such that the black hole mass
derived from the appropriate single-epoch scaling relation agrees between the
two epochs within a factor of 3. The fluxes of the narrow emission lines do not
appear to change between epochs. The light curve obtained by the Catalina Sky
Survey suggests that the transition occurs within a rest-frame time interval of
approximately 500 days. We examine three possible mechanisms for this
transition suggested in the recent literature. An abrupt change in the
reddening towards the central engine is disfavored by the substantial
difference between the timescale to obscure the central engine and the observed
timescale of the transition. A decaying tidal disruption flare is consistent
with the decay rate of the light curve but not with the prolonged bright state
preceding the decay, nor can this scenario provide the power required by the
luminosities of the emission lines. An abrupt drop in the accretion rate onto
the supermassive black hole appears to be the most plausible explanation for
