Influential Article Review - Navigating Innovation through Leadership
This paper examines innovation and leadership. We present insights from a highly influential paper. Here are the highlights from this paper: The purpose of this conceptual article is to demonstrate that Donald Schƶnās Reflective Practitioner actually outlines an explicit model of the steps that project leaders in practice apply largely unaware. This reflective research model furthermore can be meaningfully combined with Argyris and Schƶnās model of organizational learning. The combined research and learning model can support project team members and leaders to enhance their reflectiveness and improve their project success. Eighteen project leaders of innovation teams were studied by means of in-depth interviews aimed at assessing how project leaders act when dealing with critical incidents during their projects. Based on a selection of three project leaders, an empirical illustration of Schƶnās model is provided: they recognized there was a problem, researched the problem, developed alternative solutions, tested different solutions and alternatives on validity, tried out and experimented with solutions, selected and applied a particular solution, and evaluated the process completed. The authorsā suggestion for practitioners is applying the combined model of the reflective practitioner and organizational learning, as this can help innovation leadership in practice at both the individual and the team level. The scientific value of this contribution lies in the conversion of Schƶnās latent (tacit) model into a manifest (explicit) model, and by relating it to the model of organizational learning, a result emerges that is both applicable to future research and practice. Influential Article Review -How Vietnam Can Succeed in FDIs
This paper examines investments. We present insights from a highly influential paper. Here are the highlights from this paper: Foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises are playing a key role in Vietnamās economy. By the end of 2016, there are more than 21,398 FDI projects in force, with the total registered capital of nearly 293 billion USD. One hundred six countries and territories have invested in 19 industries in 68 provinces and cities of Vietnam. These investments have added a large amount of capital to the economy, which has basically been used effectively, contributing to the economic growth of Vietnam. In this context, the study focuses on the analysis of statistical data from 1988 to 2016 on the sources of funds, the number of projects, the invested sectors, and countries invested in Vietnam; research also includes three main factors that affect the quality of FDI attraction in Vietnam, namely resources, infrastructure, and other support policies. In this study, the support policy factor is thought to have the greatest impact. In addition to the use of statistical techniques, quantitative research is also applied to three data analysis techniques, including descriptive statistics, scale reliability analysis, and regression analysis, to verify the hypothesis. Policy implications are also proposed in this study to improve the quality of FDI attraction in Vietnam in the coming years. For our overseas readers, we then present the insights from this paper in Spanish, French, Portuguese, and German
Myelin development, plasticity, and pathology in the auditory system
Myelin allows for the rapid and precise timing of action potential propagation along neuronal circuits and is essential for healthy auditory system function. In this article, we discuss what is currently known about myelin in the auditory system with a focus on the timing of myelination during auditory system development, the role of myelin in supporting peripheral and central auditory circuit function, and how various myelin pathologies compromise auditory information processing. Additionally, in keeping with the increasing recognition that myelin is dynamic and is influenced by experience throughout life, we review the growing evidence that auditory sensory deprivation alters myelin along specific segments of the brainās auditory circuit. Constitutive activation of IKK2/NF-ĪŗB impairs osteogenesis and skeletal development
Pathologic conditions impair bone homeostasis. The transcription factor NF-ĪŗB regulates bone homeostasis and is central to bone pathologies. Whereas contribution of NF-ĪŗB to heightened osteoclast activity is well-documented, the mechanisms underlying NF-ĪŗB impact on chondrocytes and osteoblasts are scarce. In this study, we examined the effect of constitutively active IKK2 (IKK2ca) on chondrogenic and osteogenic differentiation. We show that retroviral IKK2ca but not GFP, IKK2WT, or the inactive IKK2 forms IKK2KM and IKK2SSAA, strongly suppressed osteogenesis and chondrogenesis, in vitro. In order to explore the effect of constitutive NF-ĪŗB activation on bone formation in vivo, we activated this pathway in a conditional fashion. Specifically, we crossed the R26StopIKK2ca mice with mice carrying the Col2-cre in order to express IKK2ca in osteoblasts and chondrocytes. Both chondrocytes and osteoblasts derived from Col2Cre/IKK2ca expressed IKK2ca. Mice were born alive yet died shortly thereafter. Histologically, newborn Col2Cre+/RosaIKK2ca heterozygotes (Cre+IKK2ca_w/f (het)) and homozygotes (Cre+IKK2ca_f/f (KI)) showed smaller skeleton, deformed vertebrate and reduced or missing digit ossification. The width of neural arches, as well as ossification in vertebral bodies of Cre+IKK2ca_w/f and Cre+IKK2ca_f/f, was reduced or diminished. H&E staining of proximal tibia from new born pups revealed that Cre+IKK2ca_f/f displayed disorganized hypertrophic zones within the smaller epiphysis. Micro-CT analysis indicated that 4-wk old Cre+IKK2ca_w/f has abnormal trabecular bone in proximal tibia compared to WT littermates. Mechanistically, ex-vivo experiments showed that expression of differentiation markers in calvarial osteoblasts derived from newborn IKK2ca knock-in mice was diminished compared to WT-derived cells. In situ hybridization studies demonstrated that the hypertrophic chondrocyte marker type-X collagen, the pre-hypertrophic chondrocyte markers Indian hedgehog and alkaline phosphatase, and the early markers Aggrecan and type-II collagen were reduced in Cre+IKK2ca_w/f and Cre+IKK2ca_f/f mice. Altogether, the in-vitro, in vivo and ex-vivo evidence suggest that IKK2ca perturbs osteoblast and chondrocyte maturation and impairs skeletal development

Chromosomal Redistribution of Male-Biased Genes in Mammalian Evolution with Two Bursts of Gene Gain on the X Chromosome
Mammalian X chromosomes evolved under various mechanisms including sexual antagonism, the faster-X process, and meiotic sex chromosome inactivation (MSCI). These forces may contribute to nonrandom chromosomal distribution of sex-biased genes. In order to understand the evolution of gene content on the X chromosome and autosome under these forces, we dated human and mouse protein-coding genes and miRNA genes on the vertebrate phylogenetic tree. We found that the X chromosome recently acquired a burst of young male-biased genes, which is consistent with fixation of recessive male-beneficial alleles by sexual antagonism. For genes originating earlier, however, this pattern diminishes and finally reverses with an overrepresentation of the oldest male-biased genes on autosomes. MSCI contributes to this dynamic since it silences X-linked old genes but not X-linked young genes. This demasculinization process seems to be associated with feminization of the X chromosome with more X-linked old genes expressed in ovaries. Moreover, we detected another burst of gene originations after the split of eutherian mammals and opossum, and these genes were quickly incorporated into transcriptional networks of multiple tissues. Preexisting X-linked genes also show significantly higher protein-level evolution during this period compared to autosomal genes, suggesting positive selection accompanied the early evolution of mammalian X chromosomes. These two findings cast new light on the evolutionary history of the mammalian X chromosome in terms of gene gain, sequence, and expressional evolution.</p
CLEAR I: Ages and Metallicities of Quiescent Galaxies at Derived from Deep Hubble Space Telescope Grism Data
We use deep \textit{Hubble Space Telescope} spectroscopy to constrain the
metallicities and (\editone{light-weighted}) ages of massive () galaxies selected to have quiescent stellar
populations at . The data include 12--orbit depth coverage with the
WFC3/G102 grism covering ~\AA\, at a spectral
resolution of taken as part of the CANDELS Lyman- Emission
at Reionization (CLEAR) survey. At , the spectra cover important
stellar population features in the rest-frame optical. We simulate a suite of
stellar population models at the grism resolution, fit these to the data for
each galaxy, and derive posterior likelihood distributions for metallicity and
age. We stack the posteriors for subgroups of galaxies in different redshift
ranges that include different combinations of stellar absorption features. Our
results give \editone{light-weighted ages of ~Gyr,
~Gyr, ~Gyr, and
~Gyr, \editone{for galaxies at , 1.2,
1.3, and 1.6. This} implies that most of the massive quiescent galaxies at
\% of their stellar mass by a redshift of }. The
posteriors give metallicities of \editone{~, ~, ~, and ~}. This is evidence
that massive galaxies had enriched rapidly to approximately Solar metallicities
as early as .Comment: 32 pages, 23 figures, Resubmited to ApJ after revisions in response

ĪNp63Ī± suppresses cells invasion by downregulating PKCĪ³/Rac1 signaling through miR-320a
ĪNp63Ī±, a member of the p53 family of transcription factors, is overexpressed in a number of cancers and plays a role in proliferation, differentiation, migration, and invasion. ĪNp63Ī± has been shown to regulate several microRNAs that are involved in development and cancer. We identified miRNA miR-320a as a positively regulated target of ĪNp63Ī±. Previous studies have shown that miR-320a is downregulated in colorectal cancer and targets the small GTPase Rac1, leading to a reduction in noncanonical WNT signaling and EMT, thereby inhibiting tumor metastasis and invasion. We showed that miR-320a is a direct target of ĪNp63Ī±. Knockdown of ĪNp63Ī± in HaCaT and A431 cells downregulates miR-320a levels and leads to a corresponding elevation in PKCĪ³ transcript and protein levels. Rac1 phosphorylation at Ser71 was increased in the absence of ĪNp63Ī±, whereas overexpression of ĪNp63Ī± reversed S71 phosphorylation of Rac1. Moreover, increased PKCĪ³ levels, Rac1 phosphorylation and cell invasion observed upon knockdown of ĪNp63Ī± was reversed by either overexpressing miR-320a mimic or Rac1 silencing. Finally, silencing PKCĪ³ or treatment with the PKC inhibitor Gƶ6976 reversed increased Rac1 phosphorylation and cell invasion observed upon silencing ĪNp63Ī±. Taken together, our data suggest that ĪNp63Ī± positively regulates miR-320a, thereby inhibiting PKCĪ³ expression, Rac1 phosphorylation, and cancer invasion.Fil: Aljagthmi, Amjad A.. Managing and monitoring equality and diversity in UK sport: An evaluation of the sporting equals Racial Equality Standard and its impact on organizational change
Despite greater attention to racial equality in sport in recent years, the progress of national sports organizations toward creating equality of outcomes has been limited in the United Kingdom. The collaboration of the national sports agencies, equity organizations and national sports organizations (including national governing bodies of sport) has focused on Equality Standards. The authors revisit an earlier impact study of the Racial Equality Standard in sport and supplement it with another round of interview material to assess changing strategies to manage diversity in British sport. In particular, it tracks the impact on organizational commitment to diversity through the period of the establishment of the Racial Equality Standard and its replacement by an Equality Standard that deals with other diversity issues alongside race and ethnicity. As a result, the authors question whether the new, generic Equality Standard is capable of addressing racial diversity and promoting equality of outcomes. Ā© 2006 Sage Publications
Was Einstein Right? Testing Relativity at the Centenary
We review the experimental evidence for Einstein's special and general
relativity. A variety of high precision null experiments verify the weak
equivalence principle and local Lorentz invariance, while gravitational
redshift and other clock experiments support local position invariance.
Together these results confirm the Einstein Equivalence Principle which
underlies the concept that gravitation is synonymous with spacetime geometry,
and must be described by a metric theory. Solar system experiments that test
the weak-field, post-Newtonian limit of metric theories strongly favor general
relativity. The Binary Pulsar provides tests of gravitational-wave damping and
of strong-field general relativity. Recently discovered binary pulsar systems
may provide additional tests. Future and ongoing experiments, such as the
Gravity Probe B Gyroscope Experiment, satellite tests of the Equivalence
principle, and tests of gravity at short distance to look for extra spatial
dimensions could constrain extensions of general relativity. Laser
interferometric gravitational-wave observatories on Earth and in space may
provide new tests of gravitational theory via detailed measurements of the
properties of gravitational waves.Comment: 21 pages, 3 figures, to be published in "100 Years of Relativity:

Leveraging Large Language Models in Conversational Recommender Systems
A Conversational Recommender System (CRS) offers increased transparency and
control to users by enabling them to engage with the system through a real-time
multi-turn dialogue. Recently, Large Language Models (LLMs) have exhibited an
unprecedented ability to converse naturally and incorporate world knowledge and
common-sense reasoning into language understanding, unlocking the potential of
this paradigm. However, effectively leveraging LLMs within a CRS introduces new
technical challenges, including properly understanding and controlling a
complex conversation and retrieving from external sources of information. These
issues are exacerbated by a large, evolving item corpus and a lack of
conversational data for training. In this paper, we provide a roadmap for
building an end-to-end large-scale CRS using LLMs. In particular, we propose
new implementations for user preference understanding, flexible dialogue
management and explainable recommendations as part of an integrated
architecture powered by LLMs. For improved personalization, we describe how an
LLM can consume interpretable natural language user profiles and use them to
modulate session-level context. To overcome conversational data limitations in
the absence of an existing production CRS, we propose techniques for building a
controllable LLM-based user simulator to generate synthetic conversations. As a
proof of concept we introduce RecLLM, a large-scale CRS for YouTube videos
built on LaMDA, and demonstrate its fluency and diverse functionality through
some illustrative example conversations
