Developing a data sharing framework: a case study

    Get PDF
Purpose: The purpose of the research project was to examine the process of developing a data sharing framework between different public sector organizations. Design / methodology / approach: A two year case study of a data sharing project between a UK fire and rescue service, local council, NHS primary care trust and a police force was undertaken. Findings: It is important to carefully determine the requirements for data sharing, to establish data sharing agreements, to have secure arrangements for data sharing, and to ensure compliance with data protection legislation. Research limitations / implications: Data sharing between public sector organizations can operate effectively if appropriate care is taken when creating data sharing agreements between partner organizations. Practical implications: Data sharing can assist in reducing duplication of effort between public sector organizations, and can reduce costs and enable more co-ordinated provision of public services. Social implications: Data sharing can assist in identifying citizens who might otherwise have been overlooked to relevant organizations. Data sharing can also assist in reducing risks associated with individuals and promote more independent living. Originality / value: The detailed analysis of a data sharing case study identified the need for a systematic data sharing framework. Such a framework is proposed and illustrated with practical examples of specification, implementation and evaluation. Key words: Data sharing framework public sector management data protection legislatio

Typological classification of clayey raw materials for ceramics manufacture, in the Tábua region (central Portugal)

Mapping of clay resources in the Cenozoic deposits of the Tábua region (central Portugal) has been carried out, together with the chemical, mineralogical and technological characterization of seventeen clay samples. The study was undertaken to relate the lithostratigraphic units and the typology of raw materials with regard to the manufacture of ceramics. The sedimentary succession comprises two units with different suitability for the manufacture of ceramics: an upper unit, with clays that present technological restrictions; and a lower unit with a much greater potential. A small set of parameters has been identified which differentiate the typological units. These parameters allow a realistic estimation to be made of the ceramic properties of any clay layer sampled in the study area. It is anticipated that with minor field work and sampling, the typological column can also be used in adjacent areas

Neoadjuvant use of Imiquimod Before Surgery in Extramammary Paget’s Disease

Extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD) is a distinct form of a rare malignant skin neoplasm, primarily seen in postmenopausal Caucasian women. Surgery is the most common treatment. However, concerning vulvar EMPD, radical surgery can be mutilating and leads to loss of femininity. Recent therapeutic development has included medical and medical-surgical approaches, allowing better preservation of genital anatomy with subsequent reduced morbidity. Accordingly, off-label use of imiquimod has been reported as a monotherapy or adjuvant therapy in EMPD.We report the case of a woman with extensive EMPD in the anogenital area, submitted to surgical resection complemented with plastic reconstruction and preceded by imiquimod medical treatment. Neoadjuvant imiquimod induced a significant cytoreduction of the tumor area, minimizing surgical radicality and maintaining local function and morpholog

O objetivo deste documento é descrever o sistema GeoPAC.
