Exploring the relationship between hostel service quality and guests’ satisfaction: a comparison between younger and older guests

    Get PDF
The hostel began as a type of accommodation chosen mainly by young travelers who appreciate staying in a place that allows them to meet other people and share information and experiences at a low price. Nowadays hostel clients are diverse and may include families, business tourists, and less young travelers. Despite the heterogeneity in the profile of hostel guests, research on the impact of service quality on hostel guests’ satisfaction has not considered that diversity. The purpose of this paper is to compare hostel preferences of young and older guests. We take data from a survey conducted with 223 hostel guests in Lisbon. The outcomes reveal that the main drivers of older guests' overall satisfaction are cleanliness and price whereas for younger guests it is primarily the staff’s competence and friendliness.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Impact on consumer well-being from imagining dream purchases

    Get PDF
Individuals often find themselves imagining about a desired product. While this activity does not imply an actual consumption, it is considered to play an important role in consumer behavior and brands largely attempt to capitalize on this through strategic marketing communications. This between-subjects experiment investigates the impact on consumer well-being from imagining dream purchases, more particularly on life satisfaction. Dream purchases refer to items that consumers dream about buying one day and can realistically afford during their lifetime. Research findings suggest that imagining dream purchases increases life satisfaction and that this relationship is not mediated by gratitude, envy, nor materialism

    Hospitality and Hospital Management

    Get PDF
A hospital is a health organization that is largely run by doctors and nurses. Hospitality is the operational facet that helps people feel welcome, relaxed and comfortable. Hospitals are indeed examples of forced hospitality, their patients need a bed, they need to eat, but the element of choice and positive desire is crucial here, making the way to a creative and responsible Hospitality and Hospital Management. At this point, an eye is cast on Social Media (SM) and Social Networking (SNet) and how they can have a say in order to achieve this goal. This work was carried out as a case study. A total of 56 physicians, nurses and patients participated in this study by answering questionnaires. The ages of the contributor’s range d from 25 to 56 years old (mean age 37 years old), with 60% women and 40% men. The questionnaire consists of two sections, where the former one contains general questions (e.g. age, gender, academic qualifications), while the second includes information on dimensions such as Information Acquisition, Innovative Culture, Financial Performance, Food Quality and Staff-Services Issues, which are in line with the objectives of this work. Mathematical Logical Programs are presented that take into account the awareness of physicians, nurses and patients about their level of satisfaction with Hospitality and Hospital Management, in terms of an accurate description of their peculiar entropic states, leading to speed of decision-making, strategic focus, the ability to pursue long-term goals, as well as closer proximity among physicians, nurses and patients. This work shows that it is possible to predict trends in Hospitality and Hospital Management, therefore enabling preventive/corrective actions that can help create the best conditions for the physicians and nurse’s professional development, leading to patient satisfaction. On the other hand, the classic framework in communication has developed into Theoretical and Model-based approaches to Problem Solving, owing the Theoretical one a clear advantage over the Model-based, once proof theory yields a precise framework in which to articulate the computational features of the Logic Programming language with the internal behavior of such systems, set in terms of their variables Entropic States and of an intetwining of SM with SNet

Preliminary Experiments with XKaapi on Intel Xeon Phi Coprocessor

International audienceThis paper presents preliminary performance comparisons of parallel applications developed natively for the Intel Xeon Phi accelerator using three different parallel programming environments and their associated runtime systems. We compare Intel OpenMP, Intel CilkPlus and XKaapi together on the same benchmark suite and we provide comparisons between an Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor and a Sandy Bridge Xeon-based machine. Our benchmark suite is composed of three computing kernels: a Fibonacci computation that allows to study the overhead and the scalability of the runtime system, a NQueens application generating irregular and dynamic tasks and a Cholesky factorization algorithm. We also compare the Cholesky factorization with the parallel algorithm provided by the Intel MKL library for Intel Xeon Phi. Performance evaluation shows our XKaapi data-flow parallel programming environment exposes the lowest overhead of all and is highly competitive with native OpenMP and CilkPlus environments on Xeon Phi. Moreover, the efficient handling of data-flow dependencies between tasks makes our XKaapi environment exhibit more parallelism for some applications such as the Cholesky factorization. In that case, we observe substantial gains with up to 180 hardware threads over the state of the art MKL, with a 47% performance increase for 60 hardware threads

The interaction that occurred between the students and the teacher-researcher before conducting the discipline of natural science, allowed to verify a disinterest for this subject when students were faced with a teaching-learning model focused on transmission-reception. This situation leads students to have a deformed image of Science, not facing it as a living body of knowledge, not relating it to their day-to-day problems and not discussing the relations between Science, Technology and Society. Thus, it was intended to develop a pedagogical action, on the theme “The Cell- the basic unit of life”, that would allow show students the Science, Technology and Society relations (STS), checking simultaneously the implications of this process on learning, as well as its contribution to improving the image of the subject natural sciences. In order to do this, it was essential to use diversified activities and methods, as well as adequate support materials. Therefore, we created, developed and then applied various didactic-pedagogic materials for this purpose, seeking to incorporate the syllabus to real day-to-day life situations, in order to improve their science and technology literacy and enhance skills and attitudes acquisition, decisive in the formation of democratically active and informed individuals, capable of making decisions in regards to scientific and technological developments. We opted for a qualitative methodology, having been privileged as methods of data collection observation, field notes, questionnaires, focus groups, documentation analysis and video and audio recordings. The results obtained after the data analysis are encouraging, indicating that the developed pedagogical action, with STS orientation, contributed to students learning, improving in parallel, their conceptions about STS interactions and the image they have on the subject of Sciences
