The use of natural substances for the replacement of chemicals in food conservation is a global trend. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of lemon juice on wholemeal bread conservation and determine shelf time. This is a quantitative, laboratory and explanatory study in which three formulas of the dough with the same composition of ingredients were tested. One formula had the addition of lemon juice at the concentration of 1.75%; other with industrial antifungal at 1.0%; and the last formula without any addition. Analysis of fibers, humidity, pH and titratable acidity were performed. Shelf life for all formulations was evaluated by the visual method until the formation of mold colonies for 5 days. The samples showed similarity in the variation in humidity level (32.4 to 37.9) in relation to time, having a reduction at the first moment and then in the increase of F1 and F2, and F3 remained constant. The  fiber content of the formulations showed a discrepancy between the contents of the evaluated times. The pH of the three formulas was within the desirable range of 4.0 to 7.0 ensuring good quality for the product according to the technical pattern of baking. The acidity variation between formulas followed a common pattern. Shelf life was similar for formulas containing lemon juice and antifungal solution, however the formula without any addition had the shortest shelf time, confirming the efficiency of lemon in the conservation of wholemeal bread.

The study of the pressures that the stored product exerts on the silo walls is a relevant factor, the present work has the objective of determining, empirically and experimentally, the loading and unloading pressures along the circular section of the vertical metal silo exerted by the stored product and the influence of the consolidation time. For the determination of horizontal and frictionpressures, devices composed of pairs of load cells were used, fixed to square sections of the silo of the silo with 2.5 m of body height and 0.64 m of internal diameter and tremonha with 0.51 m height and inclination of approximately 60° with the horizontal, made of smooth steel with 1 mm thickness. The corn loading and unloading tests were in quintupleata, and three consolidation times were adopted, which were 6, 12 and 24 hours. The experimentally determined pressures were compared to the values found from the equations contained in the standards AS 3774 (1990) and BS EN 1991/4 (2006). It was evidenced that the experimental data of horizontal pressure during loading were always lower than those standardized, considering that the standards increase the values due to the use of safety coefficients and although the calculations were performed with the subtraction of this coefficient, no interference of the consolidation times analyzed in the pressures was observed.

Objective: The aim was to evaluate the quality of life (HRQoL) in women with subclinical hypothyroidism (sHT) after 16 weeks of endurance training. Subjects and methods: In the first phase, a cross-sectional study was conducted in which 22 women with sHT (median age: 41.5 (interquartile range: 17.5) years, body mass index: 26.2 (8.7) kg/m2 , thyroid stimulating hormone > 4.94 mIU/L and free thyroxine between 0.8 and 1.3 ng/dL were compared to a group of 33 euthyroid women concerned to HRQoL. In the second phase, a randomized clinical trial was conducted where only women with sHT were randomly divided into two groups: sHT-Tr (n = 10) ? participants that performed an exercise program ? and sHT-Sed (n = 10) ? controls. Exercise training consisted of 60 minutes of aerobic activities (bike and treadmill), three times a week, for 16 weeks. The HRQoL was assessed by the SF-36 questionnaire in the early and at the end of four months. Results: Women with sHT had lower scores on functional capacity domain in relation to the euthyroid ones (77.0 ? 23.0 vs. 88.8 ? 14.6; p = 0.020). The sHT-Tr group improved functional capacity, general health, emotional aspects, mental and physical component of HRQoL after training period, while the sHT-Sed group showed no significant changes. Conclusion: After 16 weeks of aerobic exercise training, there were remarkable improvements in HRQoL in women with sHT

Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear un derstanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4 While the increasing availability of global databases on ecological communities has advanced our knowledge of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5–7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8–11 In the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world’s most diverse rainforest and the primary source of Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepre sented in biodiversity databases.13–15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may elim inate pieces of the Amazon’s biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological com munities are responding. To increase generalization and applicability of biodiversity knowledge,18,19 it is thus crucial to reduce biases in ecological research, particularly in regions projected to face the most pronounced environmental changes. We integrate ecological community metadata of 7,694 sampling sites for multiple or ganism groups in a machine learning model framework to map the research probability across the Brazilian Amazonia, while identifying the region’s vulnerability to environmental change. 15%–18% of the most ne glected areas in ecological research are expected to experience severe climate or land use changes by 2050. This means that unless we take immediate action, we will not be able to establish their current status, much less monitor how it is changing and what is being lostinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
