Constants in Future Cities and Regions
The paper resumes some of the conversations the authors had in three years of research, based on the review of best participatory planning practices worldwide. The case projects are selected and discussed with the protagonists across four leading issues: Simulation, Scenario and Visioning, Government and Governance, and Scale. The case-oriented discussion is a peculiarity of the book , contributing to give shape to future cities or regions. The aim is to build a critical thinking on how urban planning, policy and design issues are faced differently or similarly throughout every cases studied. The book include the description of computer models and media, socio-political experiments and professional practices which help communicating the future effects of different design, policy and planning strategies and schemes with a wide range of aims: from information, through consultation, towards active participation. The cases have confirmed that simulation tools can impact on local government and can drive new forms of "glocal" governance, shaping and implementing future plans and projects at different scale and time span. Evaluation of Cytotoxicity and Genotoxicity of Acacia aroma Leaf Extracts
Acacia aroma, native plant from San Luis, Argentina, is commonly used as antiseptic and for healing of wounds. The present study was conducted to investigate the in vitro cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of hot aqueous extract (HAE) and ethanolic extract (EE) of A. aroma. The cytotoxic activity was assayed by neutral red uptake assay on Vero cell. Cell treatment with a range from 100 to 5000 g/mL of HAE and EE showed that 500 g/mL and 100 g/mL were the maximum noncytotoxic concentrations, respectively. The CC50 was 658 g/mL for EE and 1020 g/mL for HAE. The genotoxicity was tested by the single-cell gel electrophoresis comet assay. The results obtained in the evaluation of DNA cellular damage exposed to varied concentrations of the HAE showed no significant genotoxic effect at range of 1–20 mg/mL. The EE at 20 mg/mL showed moderate genotoxic effect related to the increase of the DNA percentage contained in tail of the comet; DNA was classified in category 2. At concentrations below 5 mg/mL, the results of cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Acacia aroma guarantee the safety at cell and genomic level. The aetiology of infectious intestinal disease in the community in Malta
Routine sources of data provide limited information on aetiological agents causing infectious intestinal disease (IID) in the community. A retrospective, age-stratified, cross-sectional, telephone study at community level was performed whereby identified cases were asked to submit stools for analysis. Of a total of 3504 persons who participated, 99 respondents were suffering from IID. Of these, 37.4% (n=37) cases submitted stools for analysis. These samples were analysed for bacteria (Salmonella, Campylobacter, Escherichia coli, Shigella), protozoa and viruses (rotavirus, norovirus). Salmonella goldcoast was identified in 2.7% (n=1 of 37 tested) of cases, rotavirus in 10% (n=3 of 30 tested) of cases and norovirus in 20% (n=6 of 30 tested) of cases. This study describes norovirus being the commonest aetiological cause of IID in the community of Malta, which along with the data from the national surveillance system is of value in planning policies for the control of infectious intestinal disease.peer-reviewe

O objetivo deste estudo foi conhecer a opiniĂŁo dos Diretores TĂ©cnicos de ginásios relativamente Ă s competĂŞncias e formação dos TĂ©cnicos de ExercĂcio FĂsico.
Responderam a uma entrevista 15 Diretores Técnicos de ginásios.
Foram identificadas quais as competĂŞncias valorizadas pelos Diretores TĂ©cnicos aquando do recrutamento dos TĂ©cnicos de ExercĂcio FĂsico, realçando-se as caracterĂsticas pessoais e a formação. Foi tambĂ©m identificada a importância dos TĂ©cnicos de ExercĂcio FĂsico possuĂrem licenciatura na área do Desporto, apesar de nem todos os TĂ©cnicos de ExercĂcio FĂsico que trabalhavam nos ginásios desses Diretores TĂ©cnicos serem licenciados, tendo as razões para tal sido referidas. Verificou-se que a maioria dos Diretores TĂ©cnicos valoriza a formação contĂnua dos TĂ©cnicos de ExercĂcio FĂsico. Foi ainda verificado que a maioria dos Diretores TĂ©cnicos nĂŁo concorda com a alteração do nĂşmero de crĂ©ditos, introduzida pela legislação, para renovação do tĂtulo de TĂ©cnico de ExercĂcio FĂsico, tendo sido identificadas as razões da concordância e discordância relativamente a este aspeto.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
First approaches in the study of cytotoxic and mutagenic damage induced by cold aqueous extract of Baccharis articulata on normal cells
Species of Genus Baccharis (Asteraceae) possess various bioactivities in vitro. The aim was to determine the cytogenotoxic activity of the cold aqueous extract (CAE) of Baccharis articulata. Peripheral blood lymphocytes from healthy individuals were in vitro faced to CAE (40, 78, 156, 313, 625 and 1250 ug/mL) for 18-24 h. Toxicity was evaluated by staining of trypan blue exclusion and MTT reduction. The genotoxicity was evaluated by the Micronucleus Test. Balb/c mice were injected with CAE (1800, 900 and 450 mg/kg), saline solution and cyclophosphamide as negative and positive controls respectively.
Animals were sacrificed at 6 h post-injection. Bone marrow samples were fixed and stained with May- GrĂĽnwald and Giemsa. Two thousand polychromatic erythrocytes (PCE) were counted to determine number
of micronuclei (MN) and normochromatic erythrocytes (NCE)/250 PCE to calculate toxicity index (TI). CAE toxicity on human lymphocytes was dose-dependent (Cytotoxic concentration 50% = 150 ug/mL). The
number of MNPCE for negative control was: 5 (+1), positive control: 372 (+23) and CAE in three doses: 26 (+8), 16 (+5) and 8 (+3). TI for negative control: 1.38 (+0.35) positive control: 3.1 (+1.06) and CAE in three doses: 0.78 (+0.05), 0.82 (+0.08) and 1.21 (+0.2). A importância da apreciação musical para o desenvolvimento de uma escuta ativa no âmbito da diversidade musical
Trabalho de ConclusĂŁo de Curso (graduação)—Universidade de BrasĂlia, Universidade Aberta do Brasil, Curso de Licenciatura em MĂşsica a Distância, 2012.O presente artigo tem como objetivo refletir sobre a importância da apreciação musical para o desenvolvimento de uma escuta ativa no âmbito da diversidade musical e foi elaborado com base no projeto de intervenção pedagĂłgica intitulado Recital Didático: Ações pedagĂłgicas voltadas para a diversidade musical, desenvolvido por alunos do Curso de Licenciatura em MĂşsica da UAB/UnB. Buscou-se fundamentar teoricamente os conceitos de apreciação, a partir do estudo do modelo (T)EC(L)A de Swanwick, e de diversidade musical, atravĂ©s de pesquisa sobre os conceitos de autores diversos. Aprender a apreciar mĂşsica de forma aberta e com objetivos pedagĂłgicos bem definidos, abre caminhos para o novo, possibilita a quebra do preconceito e promove o conhecimento. O projeto Recital Didático: Ações pedagĂłgicas voltadas para a diversidade musical de intervenção procurou contemplar a diversidade musical Ă medida que valorizou a mĂşsica do aluno, e tambĂ©m acrescentou outros gĂŞneros musicais que ainda nĂŁo faziam parte de seu repertĂłrio. As oficinas desenvolvidas antes do recital constituĂram-se em importante ferramenta para o desenvolvimento da escuta atenta, atravĂ©s das atividades de apreciação e execução. A coleta de dados, realizada por meio de trĂŞs questionários, com questões abertas e fechadas, forneceu os elementos que possibilitaram tecer considerações Ă luz do objetivo deste artigo e chegar-se Ă conclusĂŁo. Constatou-se que as referidas atividades constituem-se em importantes ações pedagĂłgicas para o desenvolvimento da escuta ativa e o acesso Ă diversidade musical, e, dentro desse entendimento, este trabalho pode contribuir para que outros educadores musicais sintam-se motivados a vivenciar esta experiĂŞncia, desenvolvendo recitais didáticos e outras ações similares junto a seus alunos

Histological changes in leaves caused by fungi in three species of Myrtaceae
La familia Myrtaceae es una de las más numerosas en Argentina. En la provincia de Tucumán habitan 11 especies nativas, de las cuales Blepharocalyx salicifolius (Kunth) O. Berg, Eugenia uniflora L. y Myrcianthes pungens (O.Berg) D. Legrand presentan importancia medicinal, alimenticia y forestal. La informaciĂłn sobre las especies fĂşngicas y las modificaciones histolĂłgicas foliares que ellos producen es escasa. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de la presente investigaciĂłn fue identificar las especies de hongos en hojas de las tres especies arbĂłreas y describir las modificaciones anatĂłmicas causadas por la presencia de los mismos. Se trabajĂł con material fresco al que se aplicĂł tĂ©cnicas y tinciones convencionales para su estudio. Se identificaron 12 especies fĂşngicas, 10 de ellas se citan por primera vez para la Argentina, en los tres hospedantes arbĂłreos estudiados. Puccinia psidii y Alternaria sp. se encontraron con mayor frecuencia. Los tejidos foliares más afectados fueron el parĂ©nquima esponjoso y el parĂ©nquima en empalizada. La lesiĂłn más significativa en la lámina foliar se observĂł en E. uniflora, producida por Microsphaerospis arundinis. Las especies fĂşngicas identificadas amplĂan el conocimiento de la diversidad de hongos asociados a hojas en especies arbĂłreas nativas de la provincia de Tucumán.The family Myrtaceae is one of the largest in Argentina. In the province of Tucumán, eleven native species inhabit, three of them, Blepharocalyx salicifolius (Kunth) O. Berg, Eugenia uniflora L. and Myrcianthes pungens (O. Berg) D. Legrand have medicinal, alimentary and forestry importance. Information about fungal species and histological foliar changes produced by them is limited. So the objective of this research is to identify the species of fungi present in leaves of these three tree species; and evaluate the anatomical changes caused by the presence of them. Conventional techniques and stains were used. Twelve fungal species were identified in the three arboreal hosts studied. Ten species were cited for the first time for Argentina. Puccinia psidii and Alternaria sp. were found more frequently. The most affected leaf tissues were the palisade and spongy parenchyma. The most significant lesion was that one observed in the leaf of E. uniflora, it was produced by Microsphaerospis arundinis.
