    Resilient Leadership: Theory and Innovation in Chinese Higher Education

    The research gaps in the connection between resilient leadership and innovation necessitate this paper, especially as the world is moving away from the global pandemic of COVID-19. This paper has successfully reviewed theory and innovation under resilient leadership in Chinese higher education. The paper explores various concepts under resilient leadership. Variables and indicators of resilient leadership were reviewed. It also focuses on related models and theories under resilient leadership. Three models of resilient leadership: the compensatory model, challenge model, and the protective factor model were examined. Constructivist self-determination theory serves as a guiding principle for this paper. This theory was derived from social learning theory, which integrates psychoanalytic theory, constructivist thinking, and cognitive development theory. The paper also delved into resilient leadership and various online educations in Chinese higher education.     Selective methioninase-induced trap of cancer cells in S/G2 phase visualized by FUCCI imaging confers chemosensitivity.

    A major impediment to the response of tumors to chemotherapy is that the large majority of cancer cells within a tumor are quiescent in G0/G1, where cancer cells are resistant to chemotherapy. To attempt to solve this problem of quiescent cells in a tumor, cancer cells were treated with recombinant methioninase (rMETase), which selectively traps cancer cells in S/G2. The cell cycle phase of the cancer cells was visualized with the fluorescence ubiquitination-based cell cycle indicator cell cycle indicator (FUCCI). At the time of rMETase-induced S/G2-phase blockage, identified by the cancer cells' green fluorescence by FUCCI imaging, the cancer cells were administered S/G2-dependent chemotherapy drugs, which interact with DNA or block DNA synthesis such as doxorubicin, cisplatin, or 5-fluorouracil. Treatment of cancer cells with drugs only, without rMETase-induced S/G2 phase blockage, led to the majority of the cancer-cell population being blocked in G0/G1 phase, identified by the cancer cells becoming red fluorescent in the FUCCI system. The G0/G1 blocked cells were resistant to the chemotherapy. In contrast, trapping of cancer cells in S/G2 phase by rMETase treatment followed by FUCCI-imaging-guided chemotherapy was highly effective in killing the cancer cells

    Ionizing Radiation Resistance in Deinococcus Radiodurans

    Deinococcus radiodurans is unmatched among all known species in its ability to resist ionizing radiation and other DNA-damaging factors. It is considered a model organism in the study of DNA damage and repair. Treatment of D. radiodurans with an acute dose of 5,000 Gy of ionizing radiation with almost no loss of viability, and an acute dose of 15,000 Gy with 37% viability. The extreme radiation resistance of this bacterium is due to efficient DNA repair capacity, high antioxidant activities, and unique cell structure. Based on the latest findings, the general characteristics and ionizing radiation resistance mechanisms of D. radiodurans are reviewed and discussed in this paper

    Duration-adaptive Video Highlight Pre-caching for Vehicular Communication Network

    Video traffic in vehicular communication networks (VCNs) faces exponential growth. However, different segments of most videos reveal various attractiveness for viewers, and the pre-caching decision is greatly affected by the dynamic service duration that edge nodes can provide services for mobile vehicles driving along a road. In this paper, we propose an efficient video highlight pre-caching scheme in the vehicular communication network, adapting to the service duration. Specifically, a highlight entropy model is devised with the consideration of the segments' popularity and continuity between segments within a period of time, based on which, an optimization problem of video highlight pre-caching is formulated. As this problem is non-convex and lacks a closed-form expression of the objective function, we decouple multiple variables by deriving candidate highlight segmentations of videos through wavelet transform, which can significantly reduce the complexity of highlight pre-caching. Then the problem is solved iteratively by a highlight-direction trimming algorithm, which is proven to be locally optimal. Simulation results based on real-world video datasets demonstrate significant improvement in highlight entropy and jitter compared to benchmark schemes

    Analgesia for total knee arthroplasty: a meta-analysis comparing local infiltration and femoral nerve block

    Patients frequently experience postoperative pain after a total knee arthroplasty; such pain is always challenging to treat and may delay the patient’s recovery. It is unclear whether local infiltration or a femoral nerve block offers a better analgesic effect after total knee arthroplasty.We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials to compare local infiltration with a femoral nerve block in patients who underwent a primary unilateral total knee arthroplasty. We searched Pubmed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library through December 2014. Two reviewers scanned abstracts and extracted data. The data collected included numeric rating scale values for pain at rest and pain upon movement and opioid consumption in the first 24 hours. Mean differences with 95% confidence intervals were calculated for each end point. A sensitivity analysis was conducted to evaluate potential sources of heterogeneity.While the numeric rating scale values for pain upon movement (MD-0.62; 95%CI: -1.13 to -0.12; p=0.02) in the first 24 hours differed significantly between the patients who received local infiltration and those who received a femoral nerve block, there were no differences in the numeric rating scale results for pain at rest (MD-0.42; 95%CI:-1.32 to 0.47; p=0.35) or opioid consumption (MD 2.92; 95%CI:-1.32 to 7.16; p=0.18) in the first 24 hours.Local infiltration and femoral nerve block showed no significant differences in pain intensity at rest or opioid consumption after total knee arthroplasty, but the femoral nerve block was associated with reduced pain upon movement

    HSPA12A Attenuates Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Liver Injury Through Inhibiting Caspase-11-Mediated Hepatocyte Pyroptosis via PGC-1α-Dependent Acyloxyacyl Hydrolase Expression

    Liver dysfunction is strongly associated with poor survival of sepsis patients. Cytosolic lipopolysaccharide (LPS) sensing by Caspase-4/5/11 for pyroptosis activation is a major driver of the development of sepsis. Studies in macrophages and endothelial cells have demonstrated that LPS is inactivated by acyloxyacyl hydrolase (AOAH) and leading to desensitizing Caspase-4/5/11 to LPS. However, little is known about the cytosolic LPS-induced pyroptosis in hepatocytes during sepsis. Heat shock protein 12A (HSPA12A) is a novel member of the HSP70 family. Here, we report that LPS increased HSPA12A nuclear translocation in hepatocytes, while knockout of HSPA12A (Hspa12a−/−) in mice promoted LPS-induced acute liver injury. We also noticed that the LPS-induced Caspase-11 activation and its cleavage of gasdermin D (GSDMD) to produce the membrane pore-forming GSDMDNterm (markers of pyroptosis) were greater in livers of Hspa12a−/− mice compared with its wild type controls. Loss- and gain-of-function studies showed that HSPA12A deficiency promoted, whereas HSPA12A overexpression inhibited, cytosolic LPS accumulation, Caspase-11 activation and GSDMDNterm generation in primary hepatocytes following LPS incubation. Notably, LPS-induced AOAH expression was suppressed by HSPA12A deficiency, whereas AOAH overexpression reversed the HSPA12A deficiency-induced promotion of LPS-evoked and Caspase-11-mediated pyroptosis of hepatocytes. In-depth molecular analysis showed that HSPA12A interacted directly with peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator 1α (PGC-1α) and increased its nuclear translocation, thereby inducing AOAH expression for cytosolic LPS inactivation, which ultimately leading to inhibition of the Caspase-11 mediated pyroptosis of hepatocytes. Taken together, these findings revealed HSPA12A as a novel player against LPS-induced liver injury by inhibiting cytosolic LPS-induced hepatocyte pyroptosis via PGC-1α-mediated AOAH expression. Therefore, targeting hepatocyte HSPA12A represents a viable strategy for the management of liver injury in sepsis patients
