Denise Levertov (1923-1997). Poeta inglesa nacionalizada estadounidense. Desde muy joven manifestó su interés por la literatura. A los 12 años envío algunos poemas a T. S. Eliot, quien le escribió una carta ofreciéndole su consejo. La amistad de su marido con el poeta Robert Creeley propició su relación con la poesía experimental del Black Mountain College, muy influida por William Carlos Williams y su concepción por la poesía como algo instrínsecamente unido a la vida cotidiana. Autora de los libros Con ojos en la nuca (1959), La danza de la tristeza (1967) y La respiración del agua (1987), entre otros

Malignant Hyperthermia

Providing patient care in the operating room as a nurse anesthetist is rewarding and challenging. There is a paramount level of responsibility that lies on certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA). Recognition of serious life threatening conditions by CRNA must be prompt and treated urgently. As a student registered nurse anesthetist and future CRNA, knowing how to recognize and treat developed emergency conditions while patient is under anesthesia or recovering from anesthesia is an absolute requirement. Malignant hyperthermia (MH), is a rare autosomal dominant hypermetabolic life threatening disorder of skeletal muscle. Malignant hyperthermia is caused by volatile anesthetics (desflurane, sevoflurane, isoflurane) or depolarizing muscle relaxant (succinylcholine). Incidence of MH varies between 1/50,000 to 1/250,000 and highest in young population with average age of 18.3 years upon exposure to volatile anesthetics or succinylcholine and is associated with 23 genetic mutations

GPla Polymorphisms Are Associated with Outcomes in Patients at High Cardiovascular Risk

BackgroundPlatelet membrane glycoprotein receptors mediate thrombus formation. GP Ia/IIa is an essential platelet integrin receptor. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the GP Ia/IIa gene alter GP Ia/IIa expression; however, their influence on cardiovascular disease remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the GP Ia/IIa SNPs rs1126643 and rs1062535 on clinical outcomes in a large collective including high-risk patients with cardiovascular disease.Methods and resultsGP Ia SNP analysis was performed in 943 patients with symptomatic coronary artery disease. All patients were tracked for all-cause death, myocardial infarction, and ischemic stroke for 360 days. Homozygous carriers of the minor allele showed significantly worse event-free survival when compared with major allele carriers in the complete collective as well as in the subset of high-risk patients (carrying all of the following three risk factors: diabetes type II, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia). There was no significant difference in the subset of low-risk patients (carrying none of the three risk factors).ConclusionsGPla SNPs are associated with cardiovascular prognosis especially in high-risk patients. Identification of GPIa SNPs is of importance to tailor therapies in patients at already high cardiovascular risk

Der vorliegende Band stellt die Traditionslinien und die meisten wichtigeren Dichtungsschulen von William Carlos Williams bis in die 90er Jahre (u.a. Objektivismus, Beat-, San Francisco-, Black Mountain-, New York-, Deep Image- und Language-Lyrik sowie ethnische Dichtung) anhand der Selbstäußerungen von 23 Lyrikerinnen und Lyrikern und einer kleineren Auswahl repräsentativer Gedichte vor. Erkennbar wird dabei die Vielfalt und auch die Dynamik der poetischen Produktion und Reflexion in den Vereinigten Staaten
