    New Particles from Belle

I report recent results on hidden charm spectroscopy from Belle. These include: observation of a near-threshold enhancement in the omega-J/psi invariant mass distribution for exclusive B-->K omega J/psi decays; evidence for the decay X(3872)-->pi+pi-pi0 J/psi, where the pi+pi-pi0 invariant mass distribution has a strong peak between 750 MeV and the kinematic limit of 775 MeV, suggesting that the process is dominated by the sub-threshold decay X-->omega J/psi; and the observation of a peak near 3940 MeV in the J/psi recoil mass spectrum for the inclusive continuum process e+e- --> J/psi X. The results are based on a study of a 287 fb-1 sample of e+e- annihilation data collected at center- of-mass energies around the Upsilon(4S) in the Belle detector at the KEKB collider.Comment: 10 pages 12 figures. Faddeev study of heavy baryon spectroscopy

    Get PDF
We investigate the structure of heavy baryons containing a charm or a bottom quark. We employ a constituent quark model successful in the description of the baryon-baryon interaction which is consistent with the light baryon spectra. We solve exactly the three-quark problem by means of the Faddeev method in momentum space. Heavy baryon spectrum shows a manifest compromise between perturbative and nonperturbative contributions. The flavor dependence of the one-gluon exchange is analyzed. We assign quantum numbers to some already observed resonances and we predict the first radial and orbital excitations of all states with J=1/2J=1/2 or 3/2. We combine our results with heavy quark symmetry and lowest-order SU(3) symmetry breaking to predict the masses and quantum numbers of six still non-measured ground-state beauty baryons.Comment: 22 pages, 4 figures, 8 tables. Improved Measurements of Partial Rate Asymmetry in B -> h h Decays

We report improved measurements of the partial rate asymmetry (Acp) in B -> h h decays with 140fb^-1 of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. Here h stands for a charged or neutral pion or kaon and in total five decay modes are included: K-+ pi+-, K0s pi-+, K-+ pi0, pi-+ pi0 and K0s pi0. The flavor of the last decay mode is determined from the accompanying B meson. Using a data sample 4.7 times larger than that of our previous measurement, we find Acp(K-+ pi+-) -0.088+-0.035+-0.013, 2.4 sigma from zero. Results for other decay modes are also presented.Comment: 9 pages, 1 figur

Search for CP violation in the decay B0->D*+-D-+

    Get PDF
We report a search for CP-violating asymmetry in B0 -> D*+- D-+ decays. The analysis employs two methods of B0 reconstruction: full and partial. In the full reconstruction method all daughter particles of the B0 are required to be detected; the partial reconstruction technique requires a fully reconstructed D- and only a slow pion from the D*+ -> D0 pi_slow+ decay. From a fit to the distribution of the time interval corresponding to the distance between two B meson decay points we calculate the CP-violating parameters and find the significance of nonzero CP asymmetry to be 2.7 standard deviations.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

Measurements of the branching fraction and polarization in B+->rho K-+(*0) decays

    Get PDF
We present the results of a study of the charmless vector-vector decay B+->rho K-+(*0), based on 253 fb(-1) of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. We obtain the branching fraction B(B+->rho K-+(*0))=[8.9 +/- 1.7(stat)+/- 1.2(syst)]x10(-6). We also perform a helicity analysis of the rho and K-* vector mesons, and obtain the longitudinal polarization fraction f(L)(B+->rho K-+(*0))=0.43 +/- 0.11(stat)(-0.02)(+0.05)(syst)

Measurements of the D-sJ resonance properties

    Get PDF
We report measurements of the properties of the D-sJ(+)(2317) and D-sJ(+)(2457) resonances produced in continuum e(+)e(-) annihilation near roots=10.6 GeV. The analysis is based on an 86.9 fb(-1) data sample collected with the Belle detector at KEKB. We determine the masses to be M(D-sJ(+)(2317))=2317.2+/-0.5(stat)+/-0.9(syst) MeV/c(2) and M(D-sJ(+)(2457))=2456.5+/-1.3(stat)+/-1.3(syst) MeV/c(2). We observe the radiative decay mode D-sJ(+)(2457)-->D(s)(+)gamma and the dipion decay mode D-sJ(+)(2457)-->D(s)(+)pi(+)pi(-) and determine their branching fractions. No corresponding decays are observed for the D-sJ(2317) state. These results are consistent with the spin-parity assignments of 0(+) for the D-sJ(2317) and 1(+) for the D-sJ(2457)

Observation of large CP violation and evidence for direct CP violation in B0+p- decays

    Get PDF
We report the first observation of CP violation in B0+p- decays based on 152x106 U(4S)B (B) over bar decays collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We reconstruct a B0+p- CP eigenstate and identify the flavor of the accompanying B meson from its decay products. From the distribution of the time intervals between the two B meson decay points, we obtain App=+0.580.15(stat)0.07(syst) and Spp=-1.000.21(stat)0.07(syst). We rule out the CP-conserving case, App=Spp=0, at a level of 5.2 standard deviations. We also find evidence for direct CP violation with a significance at or greater than 3.2 standard deviations for any Spp value

Measurement of forward-backward asymmetry and wilson coefficients in B -> K(*)l(+)l(-)

    Get PDF
We report the first measurement of the forward-backward asymmetry and the ratios of Wilson coefficients A(9)/A(7) and A(10)/A(7) in B -> K(*)l(+)l(-), where l represents an electron or a muon. We find evidence for the forward-backward asymmetry with a significance of 3.4 sigma. The results are obtained from a data sample containing 386x10(6) (B) over bar pairs that were collected on the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider
