Ratchet Cellular Automata for Colloids in Dynamic Traps
We numerically investigate the transport of kinks in a ratchet cellular
automata geometry for colloids interacting with dynamical traps. We find that
thermal effects can enhance the transport efficiency in agreement with recent
experiments. At high temperatures we observe the creation and annihilation of
thermally induced kinks that degrade the signal transmission. We consider both
the deterministic and stochastic cases and show how the trap geometry can be
adjusted to switch between these two cases. The operation of the dynamical trap
geometry can be achieved with the adjustment of fewer parameters than ratchet
cellular automata constructed using static traps.Comment: 7 pages, 5 postscript figure
Assessment of institutional barriers to the use of natural gas fuel in automotive vehicle fleets
Institutional barriers to the use of natural gas as a fuel for motor vehicle fleets were identified. Recommendations for barrier removal were developed. Eight types of institutional barriers were assessed: (1) lack of a national standard for the safe design and certification of natural gas vehicles and refueling stations; (2) excessively conservative or misapplied state and local regulations, including bridge and tunnel restrictions, restrictions on types of vehicles that may be fueled by natural gas, zoning regulations that prohibit operation of refueling stations, parking restrictions, application of LPG standards to LNG vehicles, and unintentionally unsafe vehicle or refueling station requirements; (3) need for clarification of EPA's tampering enforcement policy; (4) the U.S. hydrocarbon standard; (5) uncertainty concerning state utility commission jurisdiction; (6) sale for resale prohibitions imposed by natural gas utility companies or state utility commissions; (7) uncertainty of the effects of conversions to natural gas on vehicle manufactures warranties; and (8) need for a natural gas to gasoline equivalent units conversion factor for use in calculation of state road use taxes

Caribou Feeding Sites in Relation to Snow Characteristics in Northeastern Alaska
Caribou select areas of relatively shallow snow for winter feeding, and do so on at least two levels: broad area and microsite. They do not normally select sites with snow-packs having mean integrated Ram hardness values in excess at 85. However, in areas of relatively shallow hard-packed snow, which is easily fractured into slab-like pieces, they can obtain access to vegetation with less expenditure of energy than Ram hardness values alone would suggest. Alpine feeding areas in the Porcupine Lake basin of northeastern Alaska had this type of snow-pack in the winter of 1972-73. In typical taiga winter range, caribou use areas where the snow depth is less than 50 centimetres
Lagere ammoniakemissie bij stalen roosters
Door de roosterbalk smaller te maken is een grotere mestdoorlaat mogelijk. Dit is alleen mogelijk met andere materialen zoals staal
A test of the concept and practical application of multiband reconnaissance Final report
Advantages, limitations, and optimization of multiband reconnaissance techniques for earth resource inventorie
