OS ÚLTIMOS DIAS DE SÓCRATES: KIERKEGAARD E A IRONIA SOCRÁTICA NA APOLOGIA DE PLATÃO
This article aims to show a reading of Kierkegaard on Socrates. To the Danish philosopher, irony is a deeper element of Socrates, that not only connects with his method, but also with his own philosophy: that is the negative as a philosophical point of view. Thus, the reading of Kierkegaard, shows us all Socratic philosophy as nothing but irony. The author seeks to explicit under what atmosphere, according to which fundamental pathology, walked the Greek philosopher, to understand their attitude and thinking. Irony is a form of negativity, as the questioning method exhausts the contents toward the abstract, conceptually empty. And the Apology, written by Plato, will be the most appropriate text for such research.

anquilosante (EA).
examinar o papel do exercício físico no tratamento
de pacientes com EA. Uma pesquisa computorizada
nas bases de dados Cochrane Central,Pubmed/
Medline e PEDro permitiu identificar 13 estudos
envolvendo 1.056 pacientes, com classificação
metodológica de 5,62 na escala de PEDro. Dos estudos
incluídos, 3 avaliaram o efeito aditivo do exercício
no domicílio, 5 avaliaram programas
The present study justifies itself through the significant number of Azorean children/adolescents that are currently out of the official school system without their minimum grade level, being left to an expected risk of pre-delinquency.
To understand the early school abandonment of the Azorean students, de study firstly looks to identify the dynamics that presides the abandonment of most students in the beginning of the second cycle of schooling, through the direct observation of Vila Franca do Campo, where the phenomenon is greatly present.
The principal indicators of the present variables are the levels of grade passing and retention of the students, their level of achievement, interest, misbehavior, presence and family socioeconomic conditions and the family participation in schooling.
The study analyses the students future perspectives and/or strategies, in other words, until when do they expect to proceed their studies, what profession do they perceive having, at what age do they see themselves initiating a profession.
It is expected that the problem resides essentially in the lack of school value transmitted through family and community, the lack of positive role models for local reference, the dysfunctional and inadequate school system that happens in the transition from the first to the second cycle of schooling, the lack of guidance and role models that help students prevent failure and consequential school abandonment
The indirect effect of body image on distress in women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy
BACKGROUND This study assessed the indirect effect of body image in the relationship between illness duration, optimism, coping strategies and psychological distress as well as the moderator role of being or not submitted to surgery and type of surgery, in women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy.PARTICIPANTS AND PROCEDURE This cross-sectional study included eighty-seven women with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy, who answered instruments that assessed sociodemographic and clinical issues, optimism, coping, concerns with body image and psychological distress. Bayesian statistics were performed to test the indirect effect model that included also the moderator effects.RESULTS Lower optimism, lower use of humor, and higher denial and illness duration predicted lower body image and high er distress. Longer illness duration was associated with higher distress. Body image had an indirect effect in the relationship between optimism and distress; between denial coping and distress; between humor coping and distress and between illness duration and distress. Being submitted to surgery but not the type of surgery was a moderator in the indirect effect model.CONCLUSIONS Body image is critical to psychological distress. Future interventions for women with breast cancer should consider body image as a target, in order to promote adaptive coping strategies specially when women have had surgery
Left atrial deformation analysis by speckle tracking echocardiography to predict exercise capacity after myocardial infarction
Introduction: Left atrial (LA) size and function are associated with outcome after myocardial infarction (MI). In this study we aimed to assess the impact of LA function as a predictor of exercise capacity through speckle tracking echocardiography. Methods: A total of 94 patients (mean age 54.8 +/- 11.0 years; 82% male) were enrolled one month after MI. Echocardiography was used to assess LA volumes and various indices of LA conduit, contraction and reservoir function. LA deformation was assessed by two-dimensional speckle tracking to calculate strain and strain rate at different phases of the cardiac cycle. Exercise capacity was assessed by oxygen uptake (VO2) on cardiopulmonary exercise testing. Results: Increased LA volumes, especially LA volume before atrial contraction, were correlated with reduced peak VO2 and reduced VO2 at anaerobic threshold. Decreased peak VO2 was associated with reduced LA conduit function (p=0.24; p=0.02), but not with LA booster function (p=-0.07; p=0.53). Lower peak atrial longitudinal strain was associated with worse exercise capacity (p=0.24; p=0.02). Conclusions: After MI, increased LA volumes were markers of decreased functional capacity that was associated with decreased LA conduit function, but not with LA contractile function. In these patients, LA longitudinal strain analysis may be useful to predict reduced exercise capacity. (C) 2018 Sociedade Portuguesa de Cardiologia.
