A fisiopatologia nao e clara. Pode ser que existam alteracoes hormonais com o treinamento, mas, ate o momento, os hormonios sexuais nao foram implicados neste processoOur purpose was to investigate the impact of running on bone mass in men. Bone density in 20 male nonrunners, 17 male runners and 19 male marathon runners were compared. All groups were of similar age ( 20- 38 yr ). Bone mineral density (DMO) and bone mineral content (BMC) were measured in the lumbar spine and proximal femurs by dual energy x-ray absorptiometry. Serum total testosterona was determined in each subject. No significant differences were detected for DMO and BMC. Marathon runners had lumbar DMO negatively correlated to the maximal power output and maximal oxygen uptake. Serum testosterone concentration was similar for all groups and was positively correlated to the lumbar DMO. The data suggest that those marathon runners with better performance may be associated with decreased vertebral DMO. The pathophysiology was not clear. Perhaps there are hormonal changes with endurance trainning, but sex hormones did not seem to play a key role.BV UNIFESP: Teses e dissertaçõe

The correct assessment of maximum oxygen consumption is one of the best indicators of cardiorespiratory condition and an important measure of associated morbidity. This literature review aimed to identify how the maximum oxygen consumption in obese, may be influenced by excess body fat, and method that the ergometer VO2max is expressed. It has been observed in recent studies, which compared the VO2max of obese individuals and non-obese using different ergometers and a new method for correcting the VO2max allometric scale. It is important that physical educators have access to this information to plan the strategies in their practice adequately assessing their students. Changes in lifestyle have led to an increase of overweight in the juvenile population. However, there are limited studies about this topic in relation to an indigenous population. The aim of this study is to verify the overweight and height defi cit in children aged 8 and 9 years, of both sexes, from urban, rural and indigenous communities of the city of Nova Laranjeiras in the State of Paraná. The 277 (148 boys) students were divided into three groups: rural (n = 100), urban (n = 99) and Indian communities (n = 78). The measurements taken were body mass (kg), height (m) and body mass index. The statistics method was an analysis of covariance and chi-square test (P <.05). Among the 277 schoolchildren, the prevalence of overweight was 14.6% in the rural area, 27.1% in urban area and 30.3% in the indigenous area in boys, and 15.7% in rural areas, 17.6% in urban and 20% in Indian girls. There was no difference in the frequency of overweight among groups for both sexes. The prevalence of height defi cit was different between the groups; it was higher in indigenous children than urban and rural children. Among the Indians, 42.4% of boys and 51.1% girls had low stature. Only indigenous children were overweight and of low height, while being prevalent in 15.1% of boys and 11.1% girls. Low stature is frequent in indigenous populations, and it would be ideal to have more research to identify its causes and consequences. Children showed high rates of overweight in all regions, demonstrating that poor eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle are not only characteristics of urban centres

Published online April 19, 2023Objectives: Regular physical activity and adequate food are part of a healthy lifestyle for the maintenance of physical and metabolic health. To verify the moderating role of physical activity (PA) in the relationship between dietary patterns and body adiposity in adolescents, according to somatic maturation. Methods: Study with cross-sectional design, sample of 336 adolescents of both sexes, aged between 11 and 17 years. Body mass, height, and waist circumference (WC) were evaluated. Body mass index (BMI), BMI z-score (BMI-z), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), and somatic maturation by peak height velocity (PHV) were calculated. The level of PA was measured by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire and dietary pattern by the Food Frequency Questionnaire ELSA - Brazil (short version). Moderation analyzes were tested using multiple linear regression models, by PROCESS macro for SPSS. Results: An inverse interaction of PA was observed in the relationship between food consumption factor 5 (ultra-processed foods category) and WC in boys categorized as pre-pubertal and pubertal PHV (β=-5.344; CI95 % -10.108 -0.580; p=0.028). For girls, no interaction was observed in any of the models analyzed. Conclusions: It was observed that the level of PA can influence food choices in prepubertal and pubertal boys, since the active boys showed better dietary pattern and lower central adiposity. Therefore, the findings reinforce the need to encourage the regular practice of physical activities from an early age, mainly aimed at preventing obesity in children and adolescents. This work was financially supported by Portuguese national funds through the FCT (Foundation for Science and Technology) within the framework of the CIEC (Research Centre on Child Studies of the University of Minho) projects under the references UIDB/00317/2020 and UIDP/00317/2020
