    Use of soil thaw/freeze depth data to verify hydrological modelling at poor gauged basins in permafrost regions = Verwendung von Tau- und Gefrierdaten des Bodens zur Überprüfung eines hydrologischen Modells in schlecht beobachteten Permafrostgebieten

    The distributed process-based runoff formation model Hydrograph was applied and tested against soil thaw/freeze depth and runoff data in different permafrost landscapes of the Kolyma Water-Balance station (KWBS). The parameterization describing different permafrost conditions was elaborated. Soil thaw/freeze depths were simulated for three sites comprising rocky talus, mountainous tundra and larch forest landscapes. The runoff model was applied and calibrated for the Kontaktovy Creek watershed (21.2 km2), which is covered by these respective land cover types. Runoff simulations were carried out for three poorly-gauged river basins (areas ranging from 1820 to 9560 km2) using the same soil and vegetation parameters of the calibrated model. The results have shown that the Hydrograph model can be reliably applied in the conditions of data limitation considering permafrost-related hydrological processes

    Optimizing outpatient total hip arthroplasty: perspectives of key stakeholders

    Background Advances in surgical techniques combined with multimodal analgesia and early rehabilitation have potentiated early mobilization in patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA). Given an increasing push from patients to accelerate recovery and health care budgetary limitations, there has been growing interest in the implementation of outpatient THA in selected patients. Understanding the patient and primary caregiver experience of outpatient THA is important to optimize care. We aimed to gain insight into patient and caregiver perspectives regarding the perceived advantages and disadvantages of same-day discharge to identify areas of care that can be improved. Method Using a qualitative descriptive approach, we conducted in-depth semistructured interviews with patient-primary caregiver dyads who experienced same-day discharge or standard care after primary THA with the direct anterior approach in 2016-2017. Two members of the research team coded the data independently, implementing a thematic and content analysis. Results Twenty-eight participants (16 same-day discharge, 12 standard care) were included. Both groups experienced high levels of satisfaction with their care pathway. Concerns and challenges identified in both groups pertained to mobility, pain, self-care and caregiver support. Challenges and concerns unique to same-day discharge were identified regarding expectations for recovery, medications and their impact on mobility, the timing of postoperative education and the availability of formal care. Conclusion Outpatient THA can be implemented with high patient and caregiver satisfaction. Preoperative education, clarification of recovery processes and expectations, and proactively addressing concerns related to caregiving are important

    Species of Fungi in the Root System of Woody Plants in Urban Plantations

    The features of the species composition of microscopic fungi in the root system and rhizosphere soil of woody plants in connection with the level of soil contamination have not been studied sufficiently. This article presents the results of studying the species composition of fungi in the root system and soil of three species of woodyplants (Acer negundo L., Acer platanoides L., and Betula pendula Roth.) growing in urban plantations of various ecological categories with different levels of heavy metal soil contamination. The study was carried out in a large industrial center of the Urals region, Izhevsk. When studying the species composition of fungi, microscopyand molecular genetic analysis were used. Isolates of endotrophic fungi from the root system of plants were isolated, and systematic membership was determined by molecular genetic analysis. The results showed that in soils with a high level of contamination, the DNA of endotrophic mycorrhiza-forming fungi was found in theroots of woody plants in a good living state.     What’s In A Russian English Username? A Case Study of Social Media Accounts Names

    The present paper examines social media account usernames of Russian speakers of English. It aims to classify over a hundred Russian English usernames (collected between 2016–2021) in terms of their structure, typical linguistic features as well as translingual and transcultural patterns that underpin their creation. This paper argues that Russian speakers of English consciously and / or subconsciously creating their usernames employ a number of translingual and transcultural strategies and practices that are aimed at retaining and transmitting Russian linguacultural identity within such global multicultural English-dominated domain as international social media. Apart from signalling Russian identity of their owners, the analyzed usernames demonstrate that Russian social media users being bilingual en masse (at least, at a graphic level), do draw on Russian English for communication within the landscape of this social media thus facilitating further formation of the social media Russian English

    Effect of Lignosilicon on the Content and Antioxidant Activity of the Polyphenols of Buckwheat Fagopyrum esculentum Moench

    Lignin preparations, introduced into soil jointly with buckwheat Fagopyrum esculentum Moench, variety 'Aiva' (cultivated throughout Latvia) seeds during the sowing in quantities of 20 kg ha-1 and 40 kg ha-1, exerted a favourable effect on the ned in alcohol extracts from the biomass of different morphological parts of buckwheat, were represented mainly by rutin. The content of rutin in the ethanol extracts from the biomass of flowers with bract reached the maximum values in the phase of accomplishing blooming - beginning of fruit formation to be 2.74% in terms of dry mass (exceeding the rutin content development of plants and the synthesis of flavonoids in flowers with bract. Flavonoids, determin the control by 65%) in the variant with 40 kg ha-1 of Lignosilicon. Lignin preparations favoured the increase in the radical scavenging capacity of the alcohol extracts of the biomass of flowers with bract of buckwheat, as well as grain and hulls. The increment of the buckwheat grain crop, in comparison with the control on the background of 40 kg ha-1 of lignin, was 12%, and that on the background of 20 kg ha-1 and 40 kg/ha of Lignosilicon 10% and 15%, respectively

    Mannose receptor 1 expression does not determine the uptake of high-density mannose dendrimers by activated macrophages populations

    The presence of a high number of macrophages within solid tumors is often significantly associated with poor prognosis and predict treatment failure for chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Macrophages are innate immune cells capable of performing diverse functions depending on the different signals from the microenvironment. The classically activated macrophage is commonly present during the early stages of tumor development while alternatively activated macrophages are associated with more advanced tumors. The distinction of the antitumoral macrophages from the pro-tumoral macrophages is not absolute. However, they have different cell surface markers such as mannose receptor (MRC1 or CD206) abundantly expressed by macrophages treated with interleukin-4 (IL-4). The important roles of macrophages in cancers suggest that it is important to develop novel therapies that target these cells. In the present study, we designed a probe using Polyamidoamine (PAMAM) fifth-generation (G5) dendrimers conjugated with mannose, Cyanine 7 (Cy7), and hydrazinonicotinamide (HYNIC) for target macrophages with high expression of MRC1 in the tumor. The intracellular uptake of 99mTc-HYNIC-dendrimer-mannose-Cy7 through the interaction with MRC1 in bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) untreated or treated with lipopolysaccharides (LPS) + interferon (IFN)γ or IL-4 was analyzed. Our results show that high-density mannose dendrimers are preferentially bound by macrophages treated by IFNγ and LPS that express lower levels of MRC1 than for macrophages treated by IL-4 that express high levels of MRC1. Furthermore, the intracellular 99mTc-HYNIC-dendrimer-mannose-Cy7 uptake in BMDMs was not inhibited in the presence of free mannose or glucose. This result suggests that 99mTc-HYNIC-dendrimer-mannose-Cy7 is not internalized via macrophage MRC1. Based on these findings, we concluded that MRC1 expression does not determine the uptake of high-density mannose dendrimers
