Parametrization of C-shocks. Evolution of the Sputtering of Grains
Context: The detection of narrow SiO lines toward the young shocks of the
L1448-mm outflow has been interpreted as a signature of the magnetic precursor
of C-shocks. In contrast with the low SiO abundances (<10E-12) in the ambient
gas, the narrow SiO emission at almost ambient velocities reveals enhanced SiO
abundances of 10E-11. This enhancement has been proposed to be produced by the
sputtering of the grain mantles at the first stages of C-shocks. However,
modelling of the sputtering of grains has usually averaged the SiO abundances
over the dissipation region of C-shocks, which cannot explain the recent
observations. Aims: To model the evolution of the gas phase abundances of SiO,
CH3OH and H2O, produced by the sputtering of grains as the shock propagates
through the ambient gas. Methods: We propose a parametric model to describe the
physical structure of C-shocks as a function of time. Using the known
sputtering yields for water mantles (with minor constituents like silicon and
CH3OH) and olivine cores by collisions with H2, He, C, O, Si, Fe and CO, we
follow the evolution of the abundances of silicon, CH3OH and H2O ejected from
grains. Results: The evolution of these abundances shows that CO seems to be
the most efficient sputtering agent in low velocity shocks. The velocity
threshold for the sputtering of silicon from the grain mantles is reduced by
5-10 km s-1 by CO compared to other models. The sputtering by CO can generate
SiO abundances of 10E-11 at the early stages of low velocity shocks, consistent
with those observed in the magnetic precursor of L1448-mm. Our model also
satisfactorily reproduce the progressive enhancement of SiO, CH3OH and H2O
observed in this outflow by the coexistence of two shocks with vs=30 and

Internet Analytics of an Innovative Digital Educational Resource of Type 1 Diabetes HelloType1 in Local Languages for People Living With Diabetes Families and Healthcare Professionals in Southeast Asia
BACKGROUND: There is minimal data of health outcomes for Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) in Southeast Asia (SEA) where government funding of insulin and blood glucose monitoring either do not exist or is limited. The full impact of Covid-19 pandemic on the national economies of SEA remain unknown. In the midst of the pandemic, in 2021, HelloType1 was developed by Action4Diabetes (A4D), a non-government organisation charity in collaboration with Southeast Asia local healthcare professionals as an innovative digital educational resource platform of T1D in local languages. HelloType1 was launched in Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia in 2021 to 2022 with Memorandums of Understandings (MOUs) signed between A4D and each country. AIMS: The aims of this study were to explore the usability and internet data analytics of the HelloType1 online educational platform within each country.
METHODS: The data analytics were extracted Google analytics that tracks data from the website hellotype1.com and Facebook analytics associated with the website.
RESULTS: There was a 147% increase in the number of HelloType1 users between the first 6 months versus the latter 6 months in 2022 and a 15% increase in the number of pages visited were noted. The majority of traffic source were coming from organic searches with a significant increase of 80% growth in 2022.
CONCLUSIONS: The results of the analytics provide important insights on how an innovative diabetes digital educational resource in local languages may be optimally delivered in low-middle income countries with limited resources
Quantitative analysis of particles, genomes and infectious particles in supernatants of haemorrhagic fever virus cell cultures
Information on the replication of viral haemorrhagic fever viruses is not readily available and has never been analysed in a comparative approach. Here, we compared the cell culture growth characteristics of haemorrhagic fever viruses (HFV), of the Arenaviridae, Filoviridae, Bunyaviridae, and Flavivridae virus families by performing quantitative analysis of cell culture supernatants by (i) electron microscopy for the quantification of virus particles, (ii) quantitative real time PCR for the quantification of genomes, and (iii) determination of focus forming units by coating fluorescent antibodies to infected cell monolayers for the quantification of virus infectivity
Nuclear structure and reaction studies at SPIRAL
The SPIRAL facility at GANIL, operational since 2001, is described briefly.
The diverse physics program using the re-accelerated (1.2 to 25 MeV/u) beams
ranging from He to Kr and the instrumentation specially developed for their
exploitation are presented. Results of these studies, using both direct and
compound processes, addressing various questions related to the existence of
exotic states of nuclear matter, evolution of new "magic numbers", tunnelling
of exotic nuclei, neutron correlations, exotic pathways in astrophysical sites
and characterization of the continuum are discussed. The future prospects for
the facility and the path towards SPIRAL2, a next generation ISOL facility, are

The ASY-EOS experiment at GSI: investigating the symmetry energy at supra-saturation densities
The elliptic-flow ratio of neutrons with respect to protons in reactions of
neutron rich heavy-ions systems at intermediate energies has been proposed as
an observable sensitive to the strength of the symmetry term in the nuclear
Equation Of State (EOS) at supra-saturation densities. The recent results
obtained from the existing FOPI/LAND data for Au+Au collisions
at 400 MeV/nucleon in comparison with the UrQMD model allowed a first estimate
of the symmetry term of the EOS but suffer from a considerable statistical
uncertainty. In order to obtain an improved data set for Au+Au collisions and
to extend the study to other systems, a new experiment was carried out at the

The decline and rise of neighbourhoods: the importance of neighbourhood governance
There is a substantial literature on the explanation of neighbourhood change. Most of this literature concentrates on identifying factors and developments behind processes of decline. This paper reviews the literature, focusing on the identification of patterns of neighbourhood change, and argues that the concept of neighbourhood governance is a missing link in attempts to explain these patterns. Including neighbourhood governance in the explanations of neighbourhood change and decline will produce better explanatory models and, finally, a better view about what is actually steering neighbourhood change
Event-related alpha suppression in response to facial motion
This article has been made available through the Brunel Open Access Publishing Fund.While biological motion refers to both face and body movements, little is known about the visual perception of facial motion. We therefore examined alpha wave suppression as a reduction in power is thought to reflect visual activity, in addition to attentional reorienting and memory processes. Nineteen neurologically healthy adults were tested on their ability to discriminate between successive facial motion captures. These animations exhibited both rigid and non-rigid facial motion, as well as speech expressions. The structural and surface appearance of these facial animations did not differ, thus participants decisions were based solely on differences in facial movements. Upright, orientation-inverted and luminance-inverted facial stimuli were compared. At occipital and parieto-occipital regions, upright facial motion evoked a transient increase in alpha which was then followed by a significant reduction. This finding is discussed in terms of neural efficiency, gating mechanisms and neural synchronization. Moreover, there was no difference in the amount of alpha suppression evoked by each facial stimulus at occipital regions, suggesting early visual processing remains unaffected by manipulation paradigms. However, upright facial motion evoked greater suppression at parieto-occipital sites, and did so in the shortest latency. Increased activity within this region may reflect higher attentional reorienting to natural facial motion but also involvement of areas associated with the visual control of body effectors. © 2014 Girges et al
What traits are carried on mobile genetic elements, and why?
Although similar to any other organism, prokaryotes can transfer genes vertically from mother cell to daughter cell, they can also exchange certain genes horizontally. Genes can move within and between genomes at fast rates because of mobile genetic elements (MGEs). Although mobile elements are fundamentally self-interested entities, and thus replicate for their own gain, they frequently carry genes beneficial for their hosts and/or the neighbours of their hosts. Many genes that are carried by mobile elements code for traits that are expressed outside of the cell. Such traits are involved in bacterial sociality, such as the production of public goods, which benefit a cell's neighbours, or the production of bacteriocins, which harm a cell's neighbours. In this study we review the patterns that are emerging in the types of genes carried by mobile elements, and discuss the evolutionary and ecological conditions under which mobile elements evolve to carry their peculiar mix of parasitic, beneficial and cooperative genes
